(InteriorAirQualitySystem)ensuresthatthe
airinthepassengercompartmentiscleaner
thantheairoutside.
Thesystemconsistsofanelectronicsensor
andacarbonfilter.Theairintakeisclosedif
thelevelofreducinggasesandoxidising
gases,e.g.carbonmonoxide,becomestoo
high,forexampleinheavytowntraffic,
queuesandtunnels.Theentryofnitrous
oxides,ground-levelozoneandhydrocarbons
ispreventedbythecarbonfilter.TextilestandardTheinteriorofaVolvoisdesignedtobe
healthyandsafe-evenforpeoplewith
contactallergiesandforasthmasufferers.
Extremeattentionhasbeengiventochoosing
environmentally-compatiblematerials.This
meansthattheyalsofulfiltherequirementsof
theÖko-Tex100ecologicalstandard-a
majoradvancetowardsahealthiercabin
environment.
Öko-Texcertificationcoversseatbelts,
carpets,threadandfabricsforexample.Even
theleatherupholsteryundergoeschromium-freetanningwithnaturalplantsubstances
andmeetstherequirements.
Volvoworkshopsandthe
environmentRegularmaintenancecarriedoutbyan
authorisedVolvoworkshopcreatesthe
conditionsforlongservicelifeandlowfuel
consumption,andcontributestoacleaner
environment.WhenVolvo’sworkshopsare
entrustedwiththerepairandmaintenanceof
thecar,itbecomespartofoursystem.We
makeclearenvironmentaldemands
regardingthewayinwhichworkshopsare
designedinordertopreventspillsand
dischargesintotheenvironment,andthis
includesthethoroughcollectionandsorting
ofthegaseous,liquidandsolidwastethat
arisesinourworkshops.Ourworkshopstaff
havetheknowledgeandthetoolsrequiredto
guaranteegoodenvironmentalcare.
ReducingenvironmentalimpactYoucanhelpreduceenvironmentalimpact,
forexample,bypurchasingeco-labelledcar
careproductsandbyservicingand
maintainingthecaraccordingtotheinstruc-
tionsintheowner’smanual.
Thefollowinghintswillhelpyoutodoyourbit
fortheenvironment:
Ensurethatyourtyrepressuresare
correct.Poorlyinflatedtyresincreasefuel
consumption.Ifanyofthehighertyre
pressuresrecommendedbyVolvoare
usedthenfuelconsumptiondecreases.
Sincearoofrackandski
boxincreaseair
resistance,leadingto
significantlyhigherfuel
consumption,they
shouldberemoved
immediatelyafteruse.
Removeunnecessaryitemsfromthecar-
thegreatertheloadthehigherthefuel
consumption.
Isyourcarequippedwithanengineblock
heater?Ifso,useitforafewhoursbefore
startingfromcoldtoreducefuel
consumptionandexhaustemissions.
Drivegently!Avoidacceleratingand
brakingtoohard.

Airbags(SRS)SRSsystem,left-handdrive.SRSsystemTheairbagisequippedwithagasgenerator.
Asufficientlyviolentcollisiontripssensors
andignitesthegasgenerator,inflatingthe
airbagwithhotgas.Tocushiontheimpact,
theairbagdeflateswhencompressed.When
thisoccurs,smokeescapesintothecar.This
iscompletelynormal.Theentireprocess,
includinginflationanddeflationoftheairbag,
occurswithintenthsofasecond.
SRSsystem,right-handdrive.NOTE!Thesensorsreactdifferently
dependingonthecourseofthecollisionand
whethertheseatbeltsonthedriverand
passengersideareused.Itistherefore
possiblethatonlyone(ornone)ofthe
airbagsmayinflateinacollision.TheSRS
systemsensestheforceofthecollisionon
thecarandadaptsaccordinglysothatoneor
moreairbagsisdeployed.
NOTE!Theairbagshaveafunctionwhereby
theircapacitiesareadaptedtothecollision
forcetowhichthevehicleissubjected.
WARNING!
Repairsmustonlybeperformedbyan
authorisedVolvoworkshop.
Anyinterferenceinthesystemcould
causemalfunctionandseriousinjury.

systemisnotfunctioning.Thecar’s
normalbrakingsystemcontinuesto
work,butwithouttheABSfunction.
–Stopthecarinasafeplaceandswitchoff
theengine.Restarttheengine.
–Ifthewarningsymbolgoesout,continue
driving.Itwasanindicatorerror.
–Ifthewarningsymbolremainslit,driveto
anauthorisedVolvoworkshoptohavethe
ABSsystemchecked.
Faultinbrakesystem
IftheBRAKEsymbollights,the
brakefluidlevelmaybetoolow.
–Stopthecarinasafeplaceandcheckthe
brakefluidreservoirlevel.
IfthereservoirlevelisbelowMINthecar
shouldnotbedrivenfurther.Haveittowedto
anauthorisedVolvoworkshoptohavethe
brakesystemchecked.
IftheBRAKEandABSwarning
symbolslightatthesametime,there
maybeaprobleminthebrakeforce
distribution.
–Stopthecarinasafeplaceand
switchofftheengine.Restartthe
engine.Ifbothsymbolsgoout,itwasanindicator
error.
Ifthewarningsymbolsremainlit,check
thebrakefluidreservoirlevel.
IfthereservoirlevelisbelowMIN,thecar
shouldnotbedrivenfurther.Haveit
towedtoanauthorisedVolvoworkshop
tohavethebrakesystemchecked.
Ifthebrakefluidlevelisnormalandthe
lampsremainlit,carefullydrivethecarto
thenearestauthorisedVolvoworkshopto
havethebrakesystemchecked.
Seatbeltreminder
Thelampremainslituntilthedriver
andfrontseatpassengerputon
theirseatbelts.
Lowoilpressure
Ifthelamplightswhiledriving,
engineoilpressureistoolow.Stop
theengineimmediatelyandcheck
theoillevel.Ifthelamplightsbuttheoillevelisnormal,stopthecarandcontactan
authorisedVolvoworkshop.
Faultincar’semissionssystem
ContactanauthorisedVolvo

checked.
FaultinSRS
IfafaultintheSRSsystemis

Right-handstalkswitchWindscreenwasherPullthelevertowardsthesteeringwheelto
activatethewindscreenwasher.Headlampwasher(optiononcertainmarkets)
High-pressurewashoftheheadlamps
consumesagreatdealofwasherfluid.To
savefluid,theheadlampsareonlywashed
everyfifthtime(withinatenminuteperiod).If
tenminuteshaveelapsedsincethelast
windscreenwashing,theheadlampsreceive
ahigh-pressurewashthenexttimethe
windscreeniswashed.ReducedwashingIfonlyapprox.onelitreofwasherfluid
remainsinthereservoir,thesupplytothe
headlampsandtherearwindowiscutoffin
ordertoprioritisecleaningofthewindscreen.
Wiper/washerfunction–rearwindow.RearwindowwasherandwiperMovetheleverforwardtostarttherear
windowwasher.

–Pressthefootbrakedownfirmly.
–Depresstheparkingbraketotheend
position(1).
–Releasethefootbrakeandmakesure
thatthecarisstationary.
–Movethegearselectorintoposition:

positionthatsuitsyoubest.Pressthecontrol
backintoplacetolockthesteeringwheel.If
thisisdifficult,pressthesteeringwheel
slightlywhilepressingthecontrolback.
WARNING!
Closethebonnetbyplacingyourhandon
itstopandpressingdown.Donotcloseit
byholdingthegrille.Enginecomponents
ontheinsidecouldinjureyourfingers.

Adjustthesteeringwheelbeforedriving,

PowerwindowsThepowerwindowsareoperatedusingthe
controlsinthedoorarmrests.Theignitionkey
mustbeturnedtopositionIorIIforthe
powerwindowstowork.Onceyoufinish
drivingandremovetheignitionkey,the
windowscanstillbeopenedorclosedas
longasneitherofthefrontdoorshasbeen
opened.
Openawindowbydepressingthefrontof
thecontrol,andcloseitbypullingupthefront
ofthecontrol.
Powerwindowsinthefront
doorsWindowscanbeopenedorclosedfromthe
frontseattwoways.
–Pressthecontrol(A)slightlydownorpull
itslightlyup.Thepowerwindowsgoup
ordownaslongastheswitchisactuated.
–Pressthecontrol(A)allthewaydownor
pullitallthewayup,andthenrelease.
Thewindowsthenopenorcloseautomat-
ically.Movementisstoppedifthewindow
isblockedinanyway.
NOTE!Thefunctionautoupforthe
passengersideisonlyavailableincertain
markets.
Controls(B)tooperatewindowsintherear
doors.Blockingpowerwindowsinthe
reardoorsThepowerwindowsintherearseatcanbe
blockedwiththeswitchonthedriver’sdoor
controlpanel.Alwaysremembertoswitchoff
currenttothepowerwindows(i.e.remove
theignitionkey)ifyouleavechildreninthecar
unattended.
LEDintheswitchisunlit
Thereardoorwindowscanbeoperatedboth
withthecontroloneachreardoorandwith
thecontrolsonthedriver’sdoor.
WARNING!
Iftherearechildreninthecar:
Remembertoswitchoffthesupplyto
thepowerwindowsbyremovingthe
ignitionkeyifthedriverleavesthecar.
Makesurethatchildren’sandother
passengers’handsareclearwhen
closingthewindows.
Ifthereardoorwindowsareoperated
fromthedriver’sdoor:
Checkthatnoneoftherearseat
passengersareindangerofgettingtheir
handscaughtwhenclosingthewindows.
