The remote key's buttons
The remote key has four buttons: one on the left sideand three on the right side
Lock: Press to lock the doors/tailgate andarm the alarm.
Unlock: Press to unlock the driver's doorand disarm the alarm. Press again to unlockthe other doors and the tailgate. This settingcan be changed in the center display's Set-tings menu.
Tailgate: Press to unlock the tailgate only(and disarm the alarm for the tailgate). Onvehicles equipped with the power tailgate*,press and hold to open the tailgate. Pressand hold to close an open tailgate (an audi-ble warning signal will sound).
Panic alarm: Press to attract attention dur-ing emergency situations. To activate, pressand hold this button for at least 3 seconds orpress it twice within 3 seconds to activate
the turn signals and horn. To deactivate,wait approximately 5 seconds and press thebutton again (the panic alarm will also deac-tivate automatically after several minutes).
Interference
Metallic objects or electromagnetic fields mayinterfere with the remote key's function. Avoidplacing the remote key within 4-6 in. (10-15 cm)of a cell phone or a metallic object.
If interference persists, use the remote key'sdetachable key blade to unlock the vehicle andplace the remote key in the backup key reader inthe tunnel console cup holder.
Loss of a remote key
If a remote keys is lost, a new one can beordered. The other keys should be taken with thevehicle to a Volvo retailer or authorized independ-ent locksmith. As an anti-theft measure, the codeof the lost remote key must be erased from thesystem. The number of registered keys for thevehicle can be found in the center display's Topview.

NOTE
Additional or duplicate remote control keyscan be obtained from any authorized Volvoretailer.
You can also obtain additional or duplicateremote control keys from certain independentrepair facilities and locksmiths that are quali-fied to make remote control keys. Each keymust be programmed to work with your vehi-cle.

Driving systems
The XC90 T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrid is aparallel hybrid, which means that it has two sep-arate drive systems: an electric motor and a gas-oline engine. Depending on the drive modeselected and the amount of electric power avail-able in the hybrid battery, the two systems canbe used in tandem or separately.

The gasoline engine and electric motor both gen-erate power directly to the wheels. The gasolineengine can also charge the hybrid battery using aspecial high-voltage generator.

Hybrid battery charging cable
The charging cable is used to recharge yourvehicle's hybrid battery. Only use the cable provi-ded with your vehicle or one purchased from aVolvo retailer.
The charging cable is stowed in a storage compartmentunder the cargo area floor

Only use the charging cable provided withyour vehicle or a replacement cable pur-chased from a Volvo retailer.

Hybrid charging cable circuitbreaker
The charging cable has a circuit breaker thathelps protect against current overloads andelectrical shocks.
If the charging cable's residual current breaker istriggered, the blue indicator light in the chargecoupler will not illuminate when the cable is plug-ged into a 120-/240-volt socket or the red indi-cator light will glow steadily. Have the socketchecked by a licensed electrician or try usinganother 120-/240-volt wall socket.
WARNING
•Charging the hybrid battery may only bedone from approved, grounded 120-/240-volt sockets. If the electrical circuitor electrical socket's capacity is notknown, let a licensed electrician inspectthe electrical circuit's capacity. Using acharge level that exceeds the electricalcircuit's or electrical outlet's capacity maystart a fire or damage the electrical cir-cuit.
•The charging cable's residual currentbreaker helps protect the vehicle's charg-ing system but cannot ensure that an cur-rent overload will never occur.
•Never use visibly worn or damaged elec-trical sockets. Doing so could lead to firesor serious injury.
•Never connect the charging cable to anextension cord.
•Maintenance or replacement of the hybridbattery may only be performed by atrained and qualified Volvo service techni-cian.
