Adjust the spring preload as follows.
1. Loosen the locknut.
2. Turn the adjusting ring in direction ato
increase the spring preload and in direction
bto the decrease spring preload.
3. The length of the spring (installed) changes
1 mm (0.04 in) per turn of the adjuster.
4. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque.
Tightening torque:
54 Nm (5.4 m•kg)
Installed length: Measurement “A”
Minimum (hard): 213.5 mm
Standard: 220.5 mm
Maximum (soft): 228.5 mm

Always tighten the locknut against the spring
adjusting ring, then torque it to specification.
Adjust the rebound damping force as fol-
lows.
Turn the rebound damping adjuster in direction
ato increase the rebound damping force and in
directionbto decrease the rebound damping
force.

Chain
Check the general condition of the chain and
check the chain slack before every ride. Lubri-
cate and adjust the chain as necessary. (See
pages 8-89 ~ 8-93 for details.)

Throttle lever
Check to see that the throttle lever operates cor-
rectly. It must open smoothly and spring back to
idle position when released. Repair as neces-
sary for proper operation.

Fittings and Fasteners
Always check the tightness of chassis fittings
and fasteners before a ride. Take the machine to
a Yamaha dealer or refer to the Service Manual
for correct tightening torque.
