Starting a cold engine
WARNING
_ Always make sure all control cables work
smoothly before you begin riding in cold
weather. If the control cables are frozen or do
not work smoothly, you could be unable to
control the ATV, which could lead to an acci-
dent or collision. _1. Apply the rear brake lever or brake pedal.
2. Turn the fuel cock to “ON”.
3. Turn the main switch to “ON” and the engine
stop switch to “”.
4. Shift the drive select lever into the neutral or
park position.

Mise en marche d’un moteur froid
AVERTISSEMENT
_ Par temps froid, s’assurer du bon fonctionnement des
câbles de commande avant chaque démarrage. Des
câbles de commande gelés ou dont le fonctionnement
est dur risquent d’entraîner une perte de contrôle du
véhicule, ce qui pourrait causer un accident ou une
collision. _1. Actionner le levier de frein arrière ou la pédale de
frein.
2. Placer le robinet de carburant sur “ON”.
3. Mettre le contacteur à clé sur “ON” et placer le cou-
pe-circuit du moteur sur “”.
4. Sélectionner le point mort ou la position de station-
nement à l’aide du levier de présélection.

Arranque de un motor frío
ADVERTENCIA
_ Asegúrese siempre que todos los cables de con-
trol funcionen con suavidad antes de circular en
días fríos. Si los cables de control están congela-
dos o no funcionan con suavidad, puede resultar
imposible controlar el ATV, lo cual puede ocasio-
nar un accidente o una colisión. _1. Aplique la palanca del freno trasero o el pedal
del freno.
2. Gire el grifo de combustible a la posición “ON”.
3. Gire el interruptor principal a la posición “ON” y
el interruptor de parada del motor a la posición
“”.
4. Cambie la palanca de selección a punto muer-
to o a la posición de estacionamiento.

NOTE:_

When the drive select lever is in the neutral or
park position, if either indicator light does not
come on, ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect the
respective electric circuit.


The engine can be started in any gear if the
rear brake lever or brake pedal is applied.
However, it is recommended to shift into neu-
tral or park before starting the engine.
_5. Use the starter (choke) in reference to the fig-
ure:
Position
1: Cold engine start-
ambient temperature below 5°C.
Position
2: Cold engine start-
ambient temperature at 0°C–30°C
and warming up position.
Position
2: Cold engine start-
ambient temperature above 25°C
and warm engine start position.
6. Completely close the throttle lever and start
the engine by pushing the start switch.

Lorsque le levier de présélection est au point mort
ou à la position de stationnement et qu’un de ces té-
moins ne s’allume pas, faire contrôler son circuit
électrique par un concessionnaire Yamaha.


Le moteur peut être mis en marche quelle que soit
la vitesse engagée, pourvu que le levier de frein ar-
rière ou la pédale soient actionnés. Il est toutefois
préférable de sélectionner le point mort ou la posi-
tion de stationnement avant de mettre le moteur en
marche.
_5. Utiliser le starter (enrichisseur) en se reportant à
l’illustration et aux informations suivantes:
Position 1
: Moteur froid -
température atmosphérique en dessous de
5°C.
Position 2
: Moteur froid -
température atmosphérique de 0°C à 30°C
et réchauffement du moteur
Position 3
: Moteur froid -
température atmosphérique supérieure à
25°C et moteur chaud
6. Fermer complètement le levier d’accélération et
mettre le moteur en marche en appuyant sur le con-
tacteur du démarreur.
NOTA:_

Cuando la palanca de selección de marcha
está en punto muerto o en la posición de esta-
cionamiento, si no se enciende alguna de las
luces indicadoras, solicite a un concesionario
Yamaha que inspeccione el circuito eléctrico
respectivo.


El motor puede arrancarse en cualquier engra-
naje si se aplica la palanca del freno trasero o el
pedal del freno. Sin embargo, se recomienda
cambiar a punto muerto o a estacionamiento
antes de arrancar el motor.
_5. Emplee el arrancador (choke) refiriéndose a la
ilustración:
Posición
1: Arranque del motor frío -
Temperatura ambiente por debajo de
5°C.
Posición
2: Arranque del motor frío -
Temperatura ambiente a 0°C–30°C y
posición de precalentamiento.
Posición
3: Arranque del motor frío -
Temperatura ambiente por encima de
25°C y posición de arranque con el
motor caliente.
6. Cierre por completo la palanca del acelerador y
arranque el motor presionando el interruptor de
arranque.

If the engine fails to start, release the start
switch, then push the start switch again.
Pause a few seconds before the next at-
tempt. Each cranking should be as short as
possible to preserve battery energy. Do not
crank the engine more than 10 seconds on
each attempt.


If the battery is discharged, pull the recoil
starter to start the engine.
_7. If the engine is started with the starter (choke)
in position
1, the starter (choke) should be
returned to position
2 to warm up the en-
gine. If the engine is started with the starter
(choke) in position
2, keep the starter
(choke) in this position to warm up the en-
gine.
8. Continue warming up the engine until it idles
smoothly and return the starter (choke) to po-
sition
3 before riding.CAUTION:_ See the “Engine break-in” section prior to op-
erating the engine for the first time. _

Si le moteur ne se met pas en marche, relâcher le
contacteur du démarreur, puis appuyer à nouveau
sur celui-ci. Attendre quelques secondes entre cha-
que tentative. Chaque essai de mise en marche du
moteur doit être aussi court que possible afin de
préserver l’énergie de la batterie. Ne pas actionner
le démarreur pendant plus de 10 secondes d’affilée.


Si la batterie est déchargée, utiliser le lanceur à
réenroulement.
_7. Si le moteur est mis en marche en plaçant le starter
à la position 1
, placer celui-ci sur la position2
pour réchauffer le moteur. Si le moteur est mis en
marche sur la position 2
, conserver cette position
pour réchauffer le moteur.
8. Continuer à faire chauffer le moteur jusqu’à ce que
le ralenti soit régulier et remettre le starter sur 3
avant de démarrer.ATTENTION:_ Lire attentivement la section “Rodage du moteur”
avant la première utilisation du véhicule. _
NOTA:_

Si el motor no arranca, suelte el interruptor de
arranque, y presione de nuevo el interruptor de
arranque. Espere algunos segundos antes del
intento siguiente. Cada viraje del motor deberá
ser lo más corto posible para ahorrar energía
de la batería. No vire el motor más de 10 se-
gundos seguidos en cada intento.


Si la batería está descargada, tire del arranca-
dor manual para arrancar el motor.
_7. Si se arranca el motor con el arrancador
(choke) en la posición
1, el arrancador (choke)
deberá girarse a la posición
2 para calentar el
motor. Si se arranca el motor con el arrancador
(choke) en la posición
2, mantenga el arranca-
dor (choke) en esta posición para calentar el
motor.
8. Siga calentando el motor hasta que funcione
con un ralentí suave y reponga el arrancador
(choke) a la posición

Starting a warm engine
To start a warm engine, refer to the “Starting a cold
engine” section. The starter (choke) should not be
used. The throttle should be opened slightly.

Warming up
To get maximum engine life, always warm up the
engine before starting off. Never accelerate hard
with a cold engine! To see whether or not the en-
gine is warm, check if it responds to the throttle
normally with the starter (choke) turned off.

Réchauffement du moteur
Afin de garantir la longévité du moteur, il est indispensa-
ble de chauffer le moteur avant de démarrer. Ne jamais
accélérer brusquement quand le moteur est froid! Le mo-
teur a atteint sa température normale de fonctionnement
dès qu’il répond immédiatement aux accélérations avec
le starter (enrichisseur) en position fermée.

drivingCAUTION:_ Before shifting, you must stop the ATV and re-
turn the throttle lever to the closed position,
otherwise the transmission may be damaged. _Shifting: Neutral to High and High to Low
1. Bring the ATV to a complete stop and return
the throttle lever to the closed position.
2. Apply the brakes, then shift by moving the
drive select lever along the shift guide.NOTE:_ Make sure that the drive select lever is completely
shifted into position. _3. Open the throttle lever gradually.
