Jump-starting
Jump-starting the vehicle should be avoided.
The battery should be removed and charged in-
stead.
WARNING
To avoid battery explosion and/or serious
damage to the electrical system:
Do not connect the negative lead of the
jumper cable to the negative terminal of
the battery
Do not touch the positive lead of the jump-
er cable to the negative lead.
Do not reverse the polarity of the jumper
cables when connecting to the batteries.

However, if the vehicle must be jump-started, pro-
ceed as follows.
1. Turn the key to “OFF”.
2. Open the hood. (See pages 8-17–8-19 for
hood opening and closing procedures.)
3. Remove the battery compartment cover.
(See pages 8-131–8-135 for battery compart-
ment cover removal and installation proce-
dures.)
4. Remove the console. (See pages 8-21–8-23
for console removal and installation proce-
dures.)
5. Using a charged 12-volt battery, connect the
positive lead of the jumper cable to the posi-
tive terminal of the battery in the vehicle and
the other end of the positive lead to the posi-
tive terminal of the charged battery.

6. Connect the negative lead of the jumper ca-
ble to the negative terminal of the charged
battery and the other end of the negative lead
to an unpainted metal surface of the crank-
case to be started.
7. Start the engine. (Refer to “Starting the en-
gine” on pages 6-7–6-9.)
8. After the engine starts, disconnect the nega-
tive lead of the jumper cable from the crank-
case and charged battery, and then
disconnect the positive lead of the jumper ca-
ble from the charged battery and the battery
in the vehicle.
9. Reinstall the console.
10. Reinstall the battery compartment cover.
11. Close the hood.

Fuse replacement
The main fuse, the fuel injection system fuse, and
the fuse box are located under the hood. (See
pages 8-17–8-19 for hood opening and closing
procedures.)
If a fuse is blown, turn off the main switch and in-
stall a new fuse of the specified amperage.
If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows.
1. Remove the quick fastener screws.
2. Remove the battery compartment cover by
lifting it up and pulling it out.
Turn the key to “OFF” and turn off the electrical cir-
cuit in question.NOTICE
To prevent accidental short-circuiting, turn off
the main switch when checking or replacing a
fuse.

4. Turn the key to “ON” and turn on the electrical
circuit in question to check if the device oper-
ates.
5. If the fuse blows again immediately, have a
Yamaha dealer check the electrical system.
6. Reinstall the battery compartment cover by
installing the quick fastener screws.
7. Close the hood.

3. Lubricate all control cables.
4. Block up the frame to raise all wheels off the
ground.
5. Tie a plastic bag over the exhaust pipe outlet
to prevent moisture from entering.
6. If storing in a humid or salt-air atmosphere,
coat all exposed metal surfaces with a light
film of oil. Do not apply oil to any rubber parts
or the seat covers.
7. Remove the battery and charge it. Store it in
a dry place and recharge it once a month. Do
not store the battery in an excessively warm
or cold place [less than 0°C (30°F) or more
than 30°C (90°F)].
Use of fuel stabilizer and conditioner eliminates
the need to drain the fuel system. Consult a
Yamaha dealer if the fuel system needs to be
drained.
