Each full-throttle acceleration sequence should be
followed with a substantial rest period for the en-
gine, by cruising at lower r/min so the engine can
rid itself of the temporary build-up of heat. If any
abnormality is noticed during this period, consult a
Yamaha dealer.
0–10 hours:
Avoid continuous operation above half-throttle. Al-
low a cooling-off period of five to ten minutes after
every hour of operation. Vary the speed of the ve-
hicle from time to time. Do not operate it at one set
throttle position.
10–20 hours:
Avoid prolonged operation above three-quarter
throttle.
After break-in:
The vehicle may now be operated normally.

NOTICE
After driving your vehicle in water, be sure to
drain the trapped water by removing the check
hose at the bottom of the air filter case, the V-
belt cooling duct check hose, the drive select
lever box check hose and the V-belt case drain
plug. Wash the vehicle in fresh water if it has
been operated in salt water or muddy condi-
tions.

Engine overheating
Wait for the engine to cool before removing the radiator cap. WARNING! If the engine is not cool when
removing the radiator cap, hot fluid and steam could blow out under pressure and burn you. Place
a thick rag over the cap and remove the cap slowly to allow any remaining pressure to escape.
If it is difficult to get the recommended coolant, tap water can be used temporarily, provided that it is
changed to the recommended coolant as soon as possible.Wait until the
engine has cooled.
Check the coolant level in the
coolant reservoir and/or radiator.
Level is OK.Level is low, check the
cooling system for leakage.
No
leakage.Leakage.
Ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect
and repair the cooling system.Add coolant. (See the text below.)
Restart the engine. If the engine overheats again, ask a
Yamaha dealer to inspect and/or repair the cooling system.
