1. Close the throttle.
2. Shift into first gear and release the shift pedal. NOTICE: Always
close the throttle before shiftin g
g ears, otherwise damag e to the

sult.

3. Open the throttle gradually.
4. At the recommended shift points shown in the following table, close
the throttle.
5. Shift into second gear and release the shift pedal.
6. Open the throttle gradually.
7. Follow the same procedure when shifting to the next higher gear.

1. Close the throttle and apply both the front and the rear brakes to
slow the motorcycle.
2. At the recommended shift points shown in the following table, shift
to a lower gear.
3. Downshift through the gears and shift the transmission into the neu-
tral position when the motorcycle
is almost completely stopped.

Recommend ed shift points
The recommended shift points during
acceleration and deceleration are
shown in the table below.
Shift up points:
1st → 2nd: 15 km/h (9 mph)
2nd → 3rd: 25 km/h (16 mph)
Shift down points:
3rd → 2nd: 20 km/h (12 mph)
2nd → 1st: 20 km/h (12 mph)

3. Use a chrome polish to shine
chrome, aluminum and stainless-
steel parts, including the exhaust
system. (Even the thermally in-
duced discoloring of stainless-
steel exhaust systems can be re-
moved through polishing.)
4. To prevent corrosion, it is recom- mended to apply a corrosion pro-
tection spray on all metal,
including chrome- and nickel-plat-
ed, surfaces.
5. Use spray oil as a universal clean- er to remove any remaining dirt.
6. Touch up minor paint damage caused by stones, etc.
7. Wax all painted surfaces.
8. Let the motorcycle dry completely before storing or covering it.

Contaminants on the brakes or tires
can cause loss of control. Make sure that there is no oil or
wax on the tires.
If necessary, wash the tires with
warm water an d a mil d d eter-
