EBU31830Fittings and fastenersAlways check the tightness of chassis fittings
and fasteners before a ride. Take the vehicle
to a Yamaha dealer or refer to the Service
Manual for correct tightening torque.EBU31840Instruments, lights and switchesCheck that all instruments, lights and switch-
es are working properly. Correct if necessary.EBU31850Control cablesWhen riding in cold weather, always make
sure all control cables work smoothly before
you begin riding. WARNING! Control cables
can freeze in cold weather and you could
be unable to control the vehicle.

TiresCheck tire pressure regularly to make sure it
is at the recommended specifications. Also
check for wear and damage. Tire pressure
Use the tire pressure gauge to check and ad-
just tire pressures when the tires are cold. Tire
pressures must be equal on both sides.
WARNING! Operation of this vehicle with
improper tire pressure may cause severe
injury or death from loss of control or roll-
over. Tire pressure below the minimum
specified could also cause the tire to dis-
lodge from the rim under severe riding
conditions.
[EWB02542]
Set tire pressures to the following specifica-
tions:

EBU33060Owner’s manual and tool kitYou are recommended to put this owner’s
manual in the vinyl bag and always carry it in
the glove compartment as shown. Put the
owner’s tool kit and tire pressure gauge under
the right passenger seat. The service information included in this man-
ual is intended to provide you, the owner, with
the necessary information for completing
your own preventive maintenance and minor
repairs.
The tools provided in the owner’s tool kit are
sufficient for this purpose, except that a
torque wrench is also necessary to properly
tighten nuts and bolts.1. Owner’s manual

2. Remove the differential gear oil filler bolt
and its gasket, and then check the oil lev-
el. It should be up to the brim of the filler
hole.

EBU32990CoolantThe coolant level should be checked before
each ride.
Checking the coolant level1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Check the coolant level in the coolant reservoir when the engine is cold as the
coolant level varies with engine tempera-
ture.TIPThe coolant should be between the minimum
and maximum level marks.

Installation1. Clean the surface of the spark plug gas-
ket and its mating surface, and then wipe
off any grime from the spark plug
threads.
2. Install the spark plug and tighten it to the specified torque. If a torque wrench is not
available when you are installing the
spark plug, a good estimate of the cor-
rect torque is one-quarter to one-half turn
past finger tight. Have the spark plug
tightened to the specified torque as soon
as possible.
3. Install the spark plug cap.
4. Lower the cargo bed.
EBU34810Cleaning the air filter elementThe air filter element should be cleaned every
20–40 hours. It should be cleaned and lubri-
cated more often if the vehicle is operated in
extremely dusty areas. Each time air filter ele-
ment maintenance is performed, check the air
inlet to the air filter case for obstructions.
Check the air filter element rubber joint to the
throttle body and manifold fittings for an air-
tight seal. Tighten all fittings securely to avoid
the possibility of unfiltered air entering the en-
gine.NOTICEECB02270Never operate the engine with the air filter
element removed. Doing so would allow
unfiltered air to enter, causing rapid en-
gine wear and possible engine damage.
Additionally, the fuel injection system
would be affected, resulting in poor engine
performance and possible overheating.
Spark plug gap: 0.8–0.9 mm (0.031–0.035 in)
Tightening torque: Spark plug:13 Nm (1.3 m·kgf, 9.4 ft·lbf)
