AND DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove all dirt, mud, dust, and
foreign material before removal
and disassembly.
When washing the machine with
high pressured water, cover the
parts follows.

2. Use proper tools and cleaning
equipment. Refer to “SPECIAL
TOOLS” section.
3. When disassembling the
machine, keep mated parts
together. They include gears,
cylinders, pistons, and other
mated parts that have been
“mated” through normal wear.
Mated parts must be reused as
an assembly or replaced.
4. During the machine disassem-
bly, clean all parts and place
them in trays in the order of dis-
assembly. This will speed up
assembly time and help assure
that all parts are correctly rein-
stalled.
5. Keep away from fire.

2. Utiliser les outils et le matériel de
nettoyage appropriés. Se reporter à
la section “OUTILS SPECIAUX”.
3. Lors du démontage de la moto, gar-
der ensemble les pièces appariées. Il
s’agit des engrenages, des cylindres,
pistons et autres pièces qui ont été
“façonnées l’une à l’autre” par
l’usure normale. Ces pièces doivent
être réutilisées ensemble ou rempla-
cées.
4. Lors du démontage de la moto, net-
toyer toutes les pièces et les dispo-
ser dans des plateaux dans l’ordre
du démontage. Ceci diminuera le
temps de remontage et permettra de
s’assurer que toutes les pièces ont
été correctement remontées.
5. Travailler à l’écart de toute flamme.
PIECES DE RECHANGE
1. Nous recommandons d’utiliser des
pièces Yamaha d’origine pour tous
les remplacements. Utiliser les
graisses et/ou huiles recommandées
par Yamaha lors des remontages et
réglages.

EC36Q000TIRE PRESSURE CHECK
1. Measure:
Tire pressure
Out of specification
→ Adjust.
NOTE:Check the tire while it is cold.
Loose bead stoppers allow the tire
to slip off its position on the rim
when the tire pressure is low.
A tilted tire valve stem indicates
that the tire slips off its position on
the rim.
If the tire valve stem is found tilted,
the tire is considered to be slipping
off its position. Correct the tire
position.
Standard tire pressure:
100 kPa
(1.0 kgf/cm

CHASREAR SHOCK ABSORBER
HANDLING NOTE
WARNING
This rear shock absorber is pro-
vided with a separate type tank
filled with high-pressure nitrogen
gas. To prevent the danger of
explosion, read and understand
the following information before
handling the shock absorber.
The manufacturer can not be held
responsible for property damage
or personal injury that may result
from improper handling.
1. Never tamper or attempt to
disassemble the cylinder or
the tank.
2. Never throw the rear shock
absorber into an open flame
or other high heat. The rear
shock absorber may explode
as a result of nitrogen gas
expansion and/or damage to
the hose.
3. Be careful not to damage any
part of the gas tank. A dam-
aged gas tank will impair the
damping performance or
cause a malfunction.
4. Take care not to scratch the
contact surface of the piston
rod with the cylinder; or oil
could leak out.
5. Never attempt to remove the
plug at the bottom of the nitro-
gen gas tank. It is very danger-
ous to remove the plug.
6. When scrapping the rear
shock absorber, follow the
instructions on disposal.
NOTES ON DISPOSAL
(YAMAHA DEALERS ONLY)
Before disposing the rear shock
absorber, be sure to extract the nitro-
gen gas from valve
1. Wear eye
protection to prevent eye damage
from escaping gas and/or metal
chips.
WARNING
To dispose of a damaged or worn-
out rear shock absorber, take the
unit to your Yamaha dealer for this
disposal procedure.

AVERTISSEMENT

d’éviter tout danger d’explosion, lire
attentivement les informations ci-des-
sous avant de manipuler l’amortisseur
arrière.
Le fabricant décline toute responsabi-
lité pour les dommages matériels ou
corporels résultant d’une mauvaise
manipulation.
1. Ne jamais essayer de démonter le
cylindre ou le réservoir.
2. Ne jamais jeter un amortisseur
usagé au feu ou l’exposer à une
chaleur intense. L’amortisseur
arrière risque d’exploser en rai-
son de la dilatation de l’azote et/
ou de l’endommagement de la
durit.
3. Veiller à n’endommager aucune
partie du réservoir de gaz. Un
réservoir endommagé affectera la
capacité d’amortissement ou
entraînera un mauvais fonction-
nement.
4. Veiller à ne pas rayer la surface
de contact de la tige de piston
avec le cylindre afin d’éviter tout
risque de fuite d’huile.
5. Ne jamais essayer d’enlever le
bouchon du fond du réservoir
d’azote. Il est très dangereux
d’enlever ce bouchon.
6. Pour la mise au rebut de l’amor-
tisseur, suivre les instructions spé-
cifiques.
REMARQUES CONCERNANT LA
MISE AU REBUT

UNIQUEMENT)
Avant de mettre l’amortisseur arrière au
rebut, ne pas oublier d’évacuer l’azote
par la soupape 1. Mettre des lunettes
pour se protéger du gaz et/ou des parti-
cules de métal susceptibles de s’échap-
per.
AVERTISSEMENT
Confier la mise au rebut d’un amortis-
seur endommagé ou usé à un conces-
sionnaire Yamaha.

TUNSETTING

The front fork setting should be made
depending on the rider’s feeling of an
actual run and the circuit conditions.
The front fork setting includes the fol-
lowing three factors:
1. Setting of air spring characteris-
tics
•Change the fork oil level.
2. Setting of spring preload
•Change the spring.
•Install the adjustment washer.
3. Setting of damping force
•Change the compression
damping.
•Change the rebound damping.
The spring acts on the load
and the damping force acts on
the cushion travel speed.

Damping characteristic near the final
stroke can be changed by changing
the fork oil amount.
CAUTION:
Adjust the oil level in 5 mm (0.2 in)
increments or decrements. Too
low oil level causes the front fork
to produce a noise at full rebound
or the rider to feel some pressure
on his hands or body. Alterna-
tively, too high oil level will
develop unexpectedly early oil
lock with the consequent shorter
front fork travel and deteriorated
performance and characteristics.
Therefore, adjust the front fork
within the specified range.
Standard oil level:
130 mm (5.12 in)
Extent of adjustment:
95 ~ 150 mm
(3.74 ~ 5.91 in)

Réglage de la fourche
Régler la fourche en fonction de l’expé-
rience de conduite du pilote sur le terrain
ainsi que des conditions du terrain.
Les trois réglages de la fourche sont les
suivants:
1. Réglage de l’amortissement pneu-
matique
Ajuster le niveau de l’huile de
fourche.
2. Réglage de la précontrainte du res-
sort
Changer de ressort.
Monter la rondelle de réglage.
3. Réglage de la force d’amortisse-
ment
Régler la force de compression.
Régler l’amortissement à la
détente.
Le ressort a une action sur la
charge tandis que la force
d’amortissement agit sur la
vitesse de la course d’amortisse-
ment.
Ajustement du niveau et des
caractéristiques de l’huile de fourche
Les caractéristiques d’amortissement en
fin de course peuvent être modifiées en
changeant la quantité d’huile de fourche.
ATTENTION:
Ajuster le niveau d’huile par incré-
ments ou décréments de 5 mm (0,2 in).
Quand le niveau d’huile est trop bas, il
se produit un bruit lorsque la fourche
est entièrement comprimée ou le pilote
ressent une certaine pression dans ses
mains ou son corps. De même, un
niveau d’huile trop élevé produira
rapidement un bouchon d’huile,
entraînant une réduction de la course
de la fourche et une détérioration des
performances et caractéristiques. Il
est donc important de régler le niveau
d’huile dans la fourche conformé-
ment aux spécifications données.
Niveau d’huile standard:
130 mm (5,12 in)
Plage de réglage:
95 à 150 mm
