Multi-function meter unit
WARNING

Be sure to stop the vehicle before
making any setting changes to the
multi-function meter unit. Changing
settings while riding can distract the
operator and increase the risk of an
accident.
The multi-function meter unit is
equipped with the following:
a speedometer
a tachometer
a fuel meter
a clock
an odometer and tripmeter display
a multi-function display
a coolant temperature meter
TIP
Be sure to turn the key to “ON” be-
fore using the “SELECT”, “RE-
SET”, “TRIP” and “INFO” buttons.When the key is turned to “ON”, all
display segments of the multi-
function meter unit will momen-
tarily appear in order to test the
electrical circuit. The speedome-
ter and odometer will then perform
a display check and a welcome
message will scroll across the
multi-function display.
Traveling speed, distance traveled
and fuel consumption measure-
ments are displayed in kilometer-
based units.
For the UK: traveling speed, dis-
tance traveled and fuel consump-
tion measurements can be
displayed in mile-based units. To
switch between kilometers or
miles: hold the “SELECT” switch
pushed, turn the main switch to
“ON”, and keep the “SELECT”
switch pushed for an additional 8
seconds.
Speedometer
The speedometer shows the vehicle's
traveling speed.

3The electrical circuit of the indicator
can be checked according to the fol-
lowing procedure.
1. Turn the key to “ON”.
2. Check that the V-belt replacement
indicator comes on for a few sec-
onds and then goes off.
3. If the V-belt replacement indicator
does not come on, have a Yamaha
dealer check the electrical circuit.
Multi-function display
The multi-function display is equipped
with the following:
an ambient temperature display
a battery voltage level display
a fuel consumption display (aver-
age and instantaneous)
an average speed display
a warning message function
Push the “INFO” button to switch the
display between the ambient tempera-
ture “Air”, the battery voltage , the
average fuel consumption
“Ave/Cons__._km/L” or “Ave/Cons__._ L/100 km”, the instantaneous fuel
consumption “Cons__._km/L” or
“Cons__._L/100 km”, and the average
speed “Ave” in the following order:
Air → → Ave/Cons_ _._ km/L or
L/100 km → Cons__._km/L or L/100
km → Ave → Air
For the UK:
If the display units have been set to
miles, pushing the “INFO” button will
switch the display in the following or-
der:
Air → → Ave/Cons_ _._ MPG →
Cons__._MPG → Ave → Air
Ambient temperature display
This display shows the ambient tem-
perature from –10 °C to 50 °C in 1 °C
increments. The temperature dis-
played may vary from the actual ambi-
ent temperature.
TIP
The icy road warning indicator Ž will
flash when the temperature is below
4°C.

3 Battery voltage display
This display shows the battery voltage
from 10.1 volts to 17.9 volts in 0.1 in-
crements. The voltage displayed may
vary slightly from the actual battery
voltage.

Average fuel consumption display
This display shows the average fuel
consumption since it was last reset.
The average fuel consumption display

Tips for reducing fuel con-
sumption
Fuel consumption depends largely on
your riding style. Consider the follow-
ing tips to reduce fuel consumption:
Avoid high engine speeds during
acceleration.
Avoid high engine speeds with no
load on the engine.
Turn the engine off instead of let-
ting it idle for an extended length
of time (e.g., in traffic jams, at traf-
fic lights or at railroad crossings).

Engine break-in
There is never a more important period
in the life of your engine than the period
between 0 and 1000 km (600 mi). For
this reason, you should read the fol-
lowing material carefully.
Since the engine is brand new, do not
put an excessive load on it for the first
1000 km (600 mi). The various parts in
the engine wear and polish themselves
to the correct operating clearances.
During this period, prolonged full-throt-
tle operation or any condition that
might result in engine overheating
must be avoided.
