Do not operate the vehicle in fast-flowing water or water deeper than 40 cm (16 in). If you must
cross shallow, slow-moving water, choose your path carefully to avoid sharp drop-offs, large
rocks, or slippery surfaces. Operating this vehi cle through deep or fast-flowing water can lead
to loss of control or overturn. To reduce your risk of drowning or other injuries, use care when
crossing through water.
When loaded with cargo:
• Drive more slowly than normal and allow more room to stop.
• Avoid hills and rough terrain. Use caution when carrying a load up or downhill.
Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning
All engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a deadly gas. Breathing carbon monoxide can
cause headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, confusion, and eventually death.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tastel ess gas which may be present even if you do not
see or smell any engine exhaust. Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can collect rapidly and you
can quickly be overcome and unable to save yourself. Also, deadly levels of carbon monoxide
can linger for hours or days in enclosed or poorly-ventilated areas. If you experience any symp-
toms of carbon monoxide poisoning, leave the area immediately, get fresh air, and SEEK MED-
ICAL TREATMENT.
Do not run engine indoors. Even if you try to ventilate engine exhaust with fans or open win-
dows and doors, carbon monoxide can rapidly reach dangerous levels.
Do not run engine in poorly ventilated or part ially enclosed areas such as barns, garages, or
carports.UB5J7CE0.book Page 6 Thursday, November 26, 2020 1:37 PM

Do not run engine outdoors where engine exhaust can be drawn into a building through open-
ings such as windows and doors.
Genuine Yamaha Accessories
Choosing accessories for your YXZ1000E is an important decision. Genuine Yamaha Accesso-
ries, which are available only from a Yamaha de aler, have been designed, tested, and approved
by Yamaha for use on your YXZ1000E.
Many companies with no connect ion to Yamaha manufacture parts and accessories or offer oth-
er modifications for Yamaha vehicles. Yamaha is no t in a position to test the products that these
aftermarket companies produce. Therefore, Yamaha can neither endorse nor recommend the
use of accessories not sold by Yamaha or modifications not specifically recommended by
Yamaha, even if sold and installed by a Yamaha dealer.
Aftermarket parts, accessories, and modifications
While you may find aftermarket products similar in design and quality to genuine Yamaha Acces-
sories, recognize that some aftermarket accessori es or modifications are not suitable because
of potential safety hazards to yo u or others. Installing aftermarke t products or having other mod-
ifications performed to your YXZ1000E that change any of the vehicle’s design or operation char-
acteristics can put you and others at greater risk of serious injury or death. You are responsible
for injuries related to changes in the vehicle.UB5J7CE0.book Page 7 Thursday, November 26, 2020 1:37 PM

and/or turn the steering wheel back and
forth to help the differential to lock or un-
lock. EBU34932Shift light
This light can be set to come on and go off at
the desired engine speeds and is used to in-
form the driver when it is time to upshift.
The electrical circuit of the shift light can be
checked by turning the key to “ ” (on). If the
light does not come on initially when the key
is turned to “ ” (on), or if the light remains
on, have a Yamaha dealer check the electrical
circuit.TIPSee page 5-13 for an explanation of how to
set the shift light.
EBU35283Coolant temperature warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on when the coolant
temperature, and therefore the engine, is out-
side its normal operating temperature range.
The warning light comes on in blue to inform
the driver that the vehicle should be warmed
up. After the engine is started, warm it up until
the warning light goes off.
The vehicle can be operated normally when
the warning light is off.
The warning light comes on in red when the
engine is overheating. If the red light comes
on, stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do
so and allow the engine to idle for about 10
minutes. If the warning light does not go off,
stop the engine and allow it to cool. (See page
9-69.)TIPIf you continue to driv e the vehicle while the
engine is overheating, a buzzer will sound.

The coolant temperature warning light can
be checked by turning the key to “ ” (on).
The warning light should come on in purple
briefly (which confirms that both the blue
and red indicators are okay) and then go
off. If the warning light does not come on at
all, comes on in red or blue, or if the warning
light remains on, have a Yamaha dealer
check the vehicle. NOTICEECB02040The engine may overheat if the vehicle is
overloaded. If this happens, reduce the
load to specification.
After restarting, make sure that the
warning light is out. Continuous use
while this warning light is on may cause
damage to the engine.
EBU31342Engine trouble warning light “ ”
This warning light comes on or flashes if a
problem is detected in the electrical circuit
monitoring the engine. When this occurs, the
display will indicate an error code (see page
5-15). Have a Yamaha dealer check the self-
diagnostic system.
The electrical circuit of the warning light can
be checked by turning the key to “ ” (on). If
the warning light does not come on initially
when the key is turned to “ ” (on), or if the
warning light remains on, have a Yamaha
