uuOpening and Closing the Tailgate uOpening/Closing the Power Tailgate
Controls
To open or close the power tailgate, do the
following:
Press the unlock button twice and unlock all
doors and the tailgate first. Then, press and
hold the tailgate button for about one second.
The beeper sounds and some exterior light
flash.
To reverse direction whil e the power tailgate is
in operation, press the button again. The
beeper sounds three times and the tailgate
reverses direction.
To open or close the power tailgate, press the
tailgate button in the instrument panel for
about one second. The beeper sounds and
some exterior lights flash.
To reverse direction whil e the power tailgate is
in operation, press the button again. The
beeper sounds three times and the tailgate
reverses direction.
■Remote Transmitter1 Opening/Closing the Power Tailgate
If the power tailgate meets resistance while opening
or closing, the auto reve rse feature reverses the
direction. Thr ee beeps sound.
The auto reverse function stops sensing when the
tailgate is almost closed to make sure that it fully
closes.
Do not touch the sensors located on both sides of the
tailgate. The power tailgat e does not close if you
touch either sensor when you are trying to close the
tailgate.
Be careful not to scratch the sensors with a sharp
object. If scratched, they can be damaged, and the
power tailgate closing feature malfunctions.

■Setting the security system alarm
The security system alarm automatically sets when the following conditions have
been met:
• The ignition switch is in LOCK
0, and the key has been removed from the
ignition switch.*1
• All doors and the tailgate are locked with the key, remote transmitter, or keyless
access system*.
■When the security system alarm sets
The security system alarm indicator in the instrument panel blinks. When the
blinking interval changes after about 15 seconds, the security system is set.
■To cancel the security system alarm
The security system is canc eled when the vehicle is unlocked using the key, remote
transmitter, keyless access system
*, or the ignition swit ch is turned to ON w*1. The
security system alarm indicato r goes off at the same time.
*1: Models with the keyless access system have an ENGINE START/STOP button
instead of an ig nition switch.
1Security System Alarm
Do not set the security sy stem alarm when someone
is in the vehicle or a window is open. The system can
accidentally activate when:
•Unlocking the door with the lock tab or the master
door lock switch.
•Opening the tailgate with the power tailgate
button in the instrument panel.
If the battery goes dead after you have set the
security system alarm, the security alarm may go off
once the battery is recharged or replaced.
If this occurs, deactivate the security system alarm by
unlocking a door using the key, remote transmitter or
keyless access system

Do not attempt to alter this system or add another
device to it.

Turn Signals
The turn signals can be used when the ignition
switch is in ON
w*1.
Light Switches
Rotating the light swit ch turns the lights on
and off, regardless of the position of the
ignition switch.
■High beams
Push the lever forward until you hear a click.
■Low beams
When in high beams, pull the lever back to
return to low beams.
■Flashing the high beams
Pull the lever back, and release it.

If you remove the key*1 from the ignition switch while
the lights are on, a chime sounds when the driver’s
door is opened.
When the lights are on, the lights on indicator in the
instrument panel will be on. 2 Lights On Indicator P. 75
Repeatedly turning the headlights on and off reduces
the life of the HID headlight bulbs.
If you sense that the level of the headlights is
abnormal, have the vehicle inspected by a dealer.
Do not leave the lights on when the engine is off
because it will cause th e battery to discharge.High Beams

Automatic lighting control can be used when
the ignition switch is in ON w*1.
When you turn the light switch to
Y, the
headlights and other exterior lights will switch
on and off automatically depending on the
ambient brightness. u
You can change the AUTO light sensitivity
setting.

The headlights, all other exterior lights, and the instrument panel lights turn off
within 15 seconds a fter you remove the key*1 and close the driver’s door.

If you turn the ignition switch to LOCK 0*1 with the headlight switch on, but do
not open the door, the lights turn off after 10 minutes (3 minutes, if the switch is in
the
Y position).
The lights turn on again when you unlock or open the driver’s door. If you unlock
the door, but do not open it within 15 seconds, the lights go off. If you open the
driver’s door, you will hear a lights on reminder chime.

■Automatic Lighting Control1 Automatic Lighting Control
We recommend that you turn on the lights manually
when driving at night, in a dense fog, or in dark areas
such as long tunnels or parking facilities.
The light sensor is in the location shown below.
Do not cover this light sensor with anything;
otherwise, the automatic lighting system may not
work properly.

Fog Lights
When the low beam head lights are on, turn
the fog light switch on to use the fog lights.
Daytime Running Lights
The daytime running lights come on when the following conditions have been met:
• The ignition switch is in ON
w*1.
• The headlight switch is off.
• The parking brake is released.
The lights remain on even if you set th e parking brake. Turning off the ignition
switch will turn off th e daytime running lights.
When the headlights are on, the daytime running lights are off.

1Fog Lights
When the fog lights are on, the indicator in the
instrument panel will be on.
They go off when the headlights turn off, or when
the daytime running lights are on.

Brightness Control
When the parking lights are turned on and the
ignition switch is in ON
w*1, you can use the
+ or - button to adjust instrument panel
brightness.
Brighten: Press the
+ button.
Dim: Press the
- button.
You will hear a beeper when the brightness
reaches minimum or maximum. The multi-
information display will return to its original
state several seconds after you adjust the
brightness.
■Brightness level indicator
The brightness level is shown on the multi-
information display while you are adjusting it.

1 Brightness Control
Instrument panel brightne ss varies, depending on
whether the exterior lights are on or off. The
instrument panel dims to reduce glare when they are
on.
If you press the
(+ button until the brightness display
is up to max, the beeper sounds. This cancels the
reduced instrument pane l brightness when the
parking lights are on.
The brightness can be set differently for when the
exterior lights are on, and when they are off.
You can customize when the glare reduction

Adjusting the Steering Wheel
The steering wheel height and distance from your body can be adjusted so that you
can comfortably grip the st eering wheel in an appropriate driving posture.
Push and hold the adjus tment switch to move
the steering wheel in, out, up or down.
Make sure you can see the instrument panel
gauges and indicators.1 Adjusting the Steering Wheel
Make any steering wheel adjustments before you
start driving.
3WARNING
Adjusting the steering wheel position while
driving may cause you to lose control of the
vehicle and be seriously injured in a crash.
Adjust the steering wheel only when the
vehicle is stopped.

• Be sure items placed on the floor behind the front seats cannot roll under the
seats.
u They can interfere with the driver’s abili ty to operate the pedals, the operation
of the seats, or the operation of the sensors under the seats.
• Everyone in the vehicle must fasten their seat belt.

vehicle, and go off soon after.

Cruise Control*
Maintains a constant vehicle speed with out having to keep your foot on the
accelerator. Use cruise control on freeways or open roads where you can travel at a
constant speed with little ac celeration or deceleration.1Cruise Control*
It may not be possible to maintain a constant speed
when driving uphill or downhill.
When not using cruise control:
Turn off cruise control by pressing the CRUISE
button.

Improper use of the cruise control can lead
to a crash.
Use the cruise control only when traveling
on open highways in good weather.

Maintains a constant vehicle speed and a safe distance between your vehicle and the
vehicle ahead of you without having to keep your foot on the brake pedal or

Important Safety Reminder
As with any system, th ere are limits to ACC.
Inappropriate use of ACC can result in a serious
accident. Use the brake pedal whenever necessary,
and always keep a safe distance between your vehicle
and other vehicles.
The radar sensor for ACC is shared with the CMBS
