Handbrake on (red)
Turning the key to the MAR position illuminates the warning light, but it
should switch off after a few seconds.
The warning light (or symbol on the display) switches on when the
handbrake is engaged. If the car is moving the buzzer will also sound.
IMPORTANT If the warning light turns on when driving, check that
the handbrake is not engaged.
EBD failure
The simultaneous switching on of the(red) and(amber)
warning lights with the engine on, indicates either a failure of the EBD
system or that the system is not available. In this case, the rear wheels
may suddenly lock and the vehicle may swerve when braking sharply.
The display will show the dedicated message.
Drive with extreme caution straight to the nearest Alfa Romeo
Authorized Service to have the system checked.
ABS FAILURE (amber)
Turning the key to the MAR position illuminates the warning light, but it
should switch off after a few seconds.
The warning light (or symbol on the display) lights up when the system
is inefficient. Under these circumstances the braking system will work
as normal without the extra performance offered by the ABS system.Proceed with caution and contact Alfa Romeo Authorized Services as
soon as possible.
The display will show the dedicated message.
Brake pad wear (amber)
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light (or symbol on the display) switches on when the
front and rear brake pads are worn. In this situation, replace as soon
as possible.
The display will show the dedicated message.
Airbag failure (red)
Turning the key to the MAR position illuminates the warning light, but it
should switch off after a few seconds.
If the warning light switches on constantly, this indicates a fault in the
airbag system.
The display will show the dedicated message.

If, when turning the key to MAR-ON, the warning light
does not turn on, or if it stays on constantly when
driving (together with the message on the display),
there could be a failure in the restraint systems. In this case
airbags or pretensioners may not be deployed in the event of an
impact or, in a lower number of cases, they deploy may
accidentally. Before proceeding, contact Alfa Romeo Authorized
Services to have the system checked immediately.
In the case of warning light failure, despite the
flashing of the warning light
in the trim located on
the internal rear view mirror and the deactivating
(where provided) of the passenger's airbag, on the versions with
multifunction display on the instrument panel, the warning light
will also flash and a dedicated message will be displayed.
On the versions with reconfigurable multifunction display the
symbol
will instead be displayed, together with a message.
Low battery charge (red)
(for versions/markets, where provided)
When the ignition key is turned to MAR, the warning light switches on
but should switch off as soon as the engine is started (with the engine
idling, a brief delay is acceptable).
Contact Alfa Romeo Authorized Services if the warning light (or
symbol on the display) remains on or flashes.
Electric power steering failure
(red)
(for versions/markets, where provided)
Turning the key to the MAR position illuminates the warning light, but it
should switch off after a few seconds.
If the warning light (or symbol on the display) stays on, you will not
have steering assistance and the effort required to operate the steering
wheel will be significantly increased; steering is, however, possible.
The display will show the dedicated message.
In this case, contact Alfa Romeo Authorized Services.
Start&Stop system
deactivation (amber)
The warning light switches on when the Start&Stop system is
deactivated by pressing the button on the auxiliary control panel next
to the steering wheel.
A specific message is displayed on certain versions.
CONSTANTLY ON: Low engine
oil pressure (red)
FLASHING: Engine oil deteriorated
(for versions/markets, where provided - red)
When the key is turned to MAR the warning light comes on, but should
go out as soon as the engine is started.

FRONT AIRBAGS
“SMART BAG” SYSTEM (MULTISTAGE
FRONT AIRBAGS)
The car is equipped with multi-stage front airbags (“Smart bags”) for
the driver and passenger and knee bags for the driver.
The front airbags (driver's and passenger's) and the driver's knee bag
have been designed to protect the occupants in the event of head-on
crashes of medium-high severity, by placing cushions between the
occupant and the steering wheel or dashboard.
Therefore non-deployment in other types of impacts (side impacts, rear
shunts, roll-overs, etc.) does not indicate a system malfunction.
Airbags are not a replacement of but complementary to the seat belts,
which you are recommended to always wear. In the event of impact,
those not wearing a seat belt are projected forwards and may come
into contact with the bag which is still inflating. The protection offered
by the bag is compromised in these circumstances.
Front airbags may not activate in the following situations:
❒frontal impacts against highly deformable objects not involving the
front surface of the car (e.g. wing collision against guard rail, etc.);
❒jamming of the car underneath other vehicles or protective barriers
(e.g. underneath a truck or a guard rail) as, in this case, the bags
would offer no additional protection with respect to the seat belt and
their deployment would be inappropriate. In these cases, non-
deployment does not indicate a system malfunction.
Do not apply stickers or other objects on the steering
wheel, on the dashboard in the passenger side airbag
area, on side upholstery on the roof or on the seats.
Never put objects (e.g. mobile phones) on the passenger's side
dashboard since they could interfere with correct inflation of the
airbag and also cause serious injury to the passengers.
FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG
This consists of an instantly inflating bag contained in a special
compartment in the centre of the steering wheel fig. 103.
Always drive keeping your hands on the steering
wheel rim so the airbag can inflate freely if necessary.
Do not drive with your body bent forward. Keep the
back of your seat upright and lean back into it.

IMPORTANT
Do not wash the seats with water or pressurised steam (by hand or at
automatic seat washing stations).
The front and/or side bags may activate in the event of sharp knocks
to the underbody of the car (e.g. impact with steps, pavements,
potholes or road bumps etc.).
When the airbag deploys it emits a small amount of dust: the dust is
harmless and does not indicate the beginning of a fire. The dust may
irritate the skin and eyes however: in this case, wash with neutral soap
and water.
All operations on airbags (inspection, repair and replacement) must be
carried out by Alfa Romeo Authorized Services.
If the car is to be scrapped, contact Alfa Romeo Authorised Services to
have the airbags deactivated.
Pretensioners and airbags are deployed in different ways, according to
the type of impact. Failure to deploy of one of the devices does not
necessarily indicate a system malfunction.
If thewarning light does not switch on when the
key is turned to MAR-ON, or stays on while driving (on
some versions together with a message on the
display) there may be a fault in the restraint systems. In this
case, airbags or pretensioners may not be activated in the case
of an accident or (in a lesser number of cases) they may be
activated incorrectly. Before proceeding, contact Alfa Romeo
Authorised Services to have the system checked immediately.
Do not travel carrying objects in your lap, in front of
your chest or between your lips (pipe, pencils, etc.):
they could cause severe injury if the airbag is
deployed.
If the car has been subject to theft, attempted theft,
vandalism, or flooding, have the airbag system
inspected at Alfa Romeo Authorised Services.
When the ignition key is in and turned in the MAR-ON
position and the engine is off, the airbags may deploy
if the car is crashed by another moving vehicle.
Therefore, even if the car is stationary, when an active passenger
airbag is fitted, DO NOT install rear facing child restraint systems
on the front passenger seat. Deployment of the airbag following
an impact could cause fatal injuries to the child. Therefore,
always deactivate the passenger airbag when a rear facing child
restraint system is installed on the front passenger seat. The front
passenger seat must also be positioned back as far as possible
in order to avoid the child restraint system from coming into
contact with the dashboard. Immediately reactivate the
passenger airbag as soon as the child restraint system has been
removed. Also remember that, if the key is turned to STOP, none
of the safety devices (airbags or pretensioners) will be deployed
in the event of collision. Non-deployment in such cases does not
indicate a system malfunction.

When the ignition key is turned to MAR, the
warning light (with passenger side front airbag
activated) switches on and flashes for a few seconds to
remind you that the passenger airbag will be deployed in a
crash, after which it should switch off.
The front airbag is designed to be deployed for
impacts of a greater intensity than for the
pretensioners. For impacts whose intensity falls
between the two levels, it is normal for only the pretensioners to
be activated.
The airbag does not replace seat belts but increases
their effectiveness. Because front airbags are not
deployed for low-speed crashes, side collisions,
rear-end shunts or rollovers, occupants are protected, in addition
to any side bags, only by their seat belts, which must therefore
always be fastened.

REPLACING FUSES
GENERAL INFORMATION
Fuses protect the electrical system: they intervene (blow) in the event of
a failure or improper intervention on the system.
When a device does not work, check the condition of its protection
fuse: the filament A fig. 151 must be intact.
If it is not, replace the blown fuse with another with the same
amperage (same colour).
B = undamaged fuse.
C = fuse with damaged filament.
Never replace a fuse with metal wires or anything else.
Contact Alfa Romeo Authorised Services should the
fuse blow again.
Never replace a fuse with another with a higher amp
rating; DANGER OF FIRE.
If a general protection fuse (MAXI-FUSE, MEGA-FUSE,
MIDI-FUSE) blows, contact Alfa Romeo Authorised
Services.
Before replacing a fuse, make sure that the ignition
key has been removed and that all the other services
are switched off and/or disengaged.
Contact Alfa Romeo Authorised Services if a safety
system (airbags, brakes), power unit system (engine,
gearbox) or steering system general protection
fuse blows.
