Interior lights
Front interior lights
The front interior lights also contain reading lights for the
driver and passenger.

The rocker switch @~fig . 58 for operating the interior
lighting has the following functions:
Door contact switch
- Place the switch @ in the middle position.

- Press one of the switches ® to turn the right or left
reading light on or off .

Clear vision
With the door contact switch turned on, the interior lights turn on
as soon as you unlock the vehicle or open the doors. The lighting is
also turned on when the ignition key is removed. The lights go out
about 30 seconds after the doors are closed . When the vehicle is
locked or when the ignition is turned on, the interior lights are
turned off.
When a door is open, the interior lights are turned off after about 10
minutes to preven t draining of the battery .
The brightness of the lights is controlled automatically by a dimmer
when they are switched on and off. •
Rear interior lights
There are reading lights in the rear for the passengers.

Seats and storage
Applies to vehicles: with power adjustable seats
Easy entry function
The easy entry function makes it easier for the rear
passengers to enter and leave the vehicle.

Folding down the front seat backs
- Lift the latch

Moving the front seats forward Press and hold the switch
© until the seat has reached
the desired position.
Moving front seats back
- Press and hold the switch
@ until the seat has reached
the desired position. The seat stops automatically when
it has reached its starting position again.
To make it easier to enter and leave the rear seat, the seatbacks of
the front seats can be folded forward and the head restraints are
automatically lowered. At the same time, the front seats can be
moved forward and back. When
the front seats are moved forward, their original position is
stored. When it is moved back, the seat automatically stops in this
position . To move the seat even further back, you have to release the
switch
@ and reactivate it.
The head restraints from the front seats, depending on the seat height that has been set, are automatically retracted when the seat ­
backs are folded down. They return to their original position again
when the seatbacks for the front seats are raised.
[ i ] Tips
With the driver's or passenger's door closed, the corresponding
switch to move the seat is inoperative. •

Memory for driver's seat
The seat adjustment settings for two drivers can be stored
using the memory buttons in the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat, the exterior rear view
mirror setting can be stored and recalled through seat memory if
the vehicle is properly equipped. .,

Storing and recalling settings
With the help of the memory buttons 1 and 2
~ page 74, fig. 75 the
settings for two different drivers can be stored and recalled
~ page 75.
The current settings are also automatically stored on the remote
control key being used when the vehicle is locked. When the vehicle
is unlocked, the settings stored on the remote control key being
used are automatically recalled.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the [ ON /OFF
I switch is depressed, the seat memory is inoperative.
The word
OFF in the [ON/OFF I switch illuminates.
All the stored settings are retained . We recommend using the
I ON/OFF I switch and deactivating the seat memory if the vehicle is
only going to be used
temporarily by a driver whose settings are not
going to be stored. •

Storing and recalling settings
Before you can store or recall your settings, the [ON/OFF]
switch on the seat memory must be engaged (not raised).
Storing settings
- Adjust the driver's seat .
- Adjust the two exterior mirrors.
- Press the [SET] button and hold it down. In addition ,
press one of the memory buttons for at least one second.
- Release the buttons. The settings are now stored under
the corresponding memory button.

Recalling settings If the driver's door is open, tap the corresponding
memory button briefly.
If the driver's door is closed, press the appropriate
memory button until the stored position is reached.
Successful storage is confirmed audibly and by the light in the [SETI
button illuminating ~ page 74, fig. 75.
When the vehicle is
locked, the current settings are stored and
assigned to the remote control key. But the settings stored on
memory buttons 1 to 2 are not deleted. They can be recalled at any
time. When the vehicle is
unlocked, the settings stored on the
remote control key are restored.
If your vehicle is driven by other persons using your remote control
key, you should save your individual seat position on one of the
memory buttons. You can recall your settings again simply and
conveniently by pressing the corresponding memory button. When
the vehicle is locked, these settings are automatically re-assigned to
the remote control key and stored.
& WARNING
• For safety reasons, the seat setting can only be recalled when
the vehicle is stationary -otherwise you risk having an accident .
• In an emergency the recall procedure can be cancelled by
pressing the [
ON/OFF I switch or by tapping of the the memory
buttons. •

ging/defrosting the windows.

• If you suspect that the automatic climate control system has
been damaged, switch the system off to avoid further damage and
have it inspected by a qualified dealership.
• Repairs to the Audi automatic climate control system require
specialized knowledge and special tools. Therefore, contact an
authorized dealer in the event of malfunctions.
[ i) Tips
• To avoid adversely affecting heating and cooling performance
and to prevent condensation on the windows, the air intake in front
of the windshield must be free of ice, snow and leaves .
• The air flowing out of the vents and throughout the vehicle's
entire interior is discharged at the rear of the vehicle. Make sure that
the outlet slots are not covered by clothing, etc.
• Th e automatic climate control system works most effectively if
the windows and the panorama/tilting sunroof* are closed.
However, if the interior of a parked vehicle is extremely hot from the
sun, briefly opening the windows can speed up the cooling
process. •

know ledge and special tools. Contact an authorized Audi dea ler for
assistance.
[ i ) Tips
• To avoid adversely affecting hea ting and cooling performance
and to preven t condensation on the windows, the air intake in front
of the windshield must be free of ice , snow and leaves.
• The air flowing out of the ven ts and throughout the vehicle 's

Controls
This overview will help you to familiarize yourself with the
climate controls.

The display shows the selected temperature for the driver's side on

Functions are set by rotating th e control or are switched on and off

Steering wheel with tiptronic
The shift buttons on the steering wheel allow the driver to
shift gears manually.

- To downshift, touch the button on the left Q .

The shift buttons are activated when the selector lever is in D, S or
in the manual shift program (tip tronic) .
Of course, you can continue to use the manual shift program with
t he selector lever on the center console .•

Fail -safe mode
If tiptronic suffers a malfunction, the f ail-safe mode main­
tains minimum drivability .
In the event of particular system malfunctions, the automatic trans ­
mission switches to the fail-safe mode . This is signaled by all the
segments in the display illuminating or going out.
Con tro ls and eq uip­
ment
You can continue to move the selector lever to a ll positions . The
manual shift p rogram (tiptronic) is switched off in the fail -safe
mode.
I n selector lever positions D and Sand in the manual shift program,
the transm ission remains in 3rd gear if 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear was
engaged previously. The transmission remains in 5th gear, if 4th, 5th
or 6th gear was engaged previously .
The next time you drive off or start the engine, 3rd gear is engaged .
You can continue to use reverse gear. But the electronic loc kout for
reverse gear is turned off .

If the transmission switches to fail-sa fe mode, you should take the
vehicle to an authorized Audi dea le rship as soon as possib le to have
t he condition corrected .•

Automatic transmission malfunction t'.!>
In the event of a system malfunction, the automatic transm ission
switches to emergency operation mode .

or other qua lified workshop at the next opportunity .

There is a serious system ma lfunction:
• The program shifts only into certain gears .
• The engine may stall.
• I t is not poss ib le to restart the engine if it has been switched of f.

Programming the Homelink ® transmitter
The transmitter is programmed in two phases. For rolling
code transmitters, a third phase is also necessary.

Phase 1: programming the overhead keypad
1. Make sure your vehicle is within operating range of the
remote controlled garage door opener.
2. Set the parking brake==>
& in "General information" on
page 764.
3. Turn the ignition on. Do not start the engine!

4. Press and hold the two outside Homelink® buttons 0
and @for approximately 20 seconds until indicator
light@==> fig. 177 begins to flash. Then release both
buttons. Do not hold the buttons for longer than
30
seconds.
- This procedure only needs to be performed
once . It
erases the factory-set default codes and does not have to
be repeated to program additional remote controls.
5. Press and hold the Homelink® button
0,@ or@ until
the indicator light @starts flashing slowly. Release the
button.
- The system will remain in programming mode for 5
minutes.
Go to the front of the vehicle and proceed with
phase 2.
Phase 2: at the radiator grille
6. Point the
original remote control to the middle of the
radiator grille of your vehicle==> fig. 178.
7. Hold the original remote control at a distance between
0-
5 in. (0-13 cm) (use the shortest distance possible).
8. Press and hold the activation button on the remote control.
- May be different in Canada . If so, press and re -press
(cycle) the activation button on your remote control every
two seconds.
9. The emergency flashers will flash
three times (after
about
15 -60 seconds) when the programming is
successful. Release the button on the remote control.
- To program more devices, repeat steps 4 to 9.

Reprogramming a single button
A Homelink® button can be reprogrammed individually without affecting the other button allocations.
Programming the overhead keypad
Press the appropriate Homelink® button until the indi­
cator light begins flashing slowly.
At the radiator grille
1. Point the original remote control to the middle of the
radiator grille of your vehicle~
page 165, fig. 178.
2. Hold the
original remote control at a distance between 0-
5 in. (0-13 cm) (use the shortest distance possible) .
3. Press and hold the activation button on the remote
control.
4. The emergency flashers will flash three times (after
about
15-60 seconds) when the programming is
successful. Now release the button on the remote
control.
- If the device utilizes a rolling code, please follow phase 3
of ~
page 165, "Programming the Homelink® trans­
mitter" for rolling code programming.
This procedure will cause the existing programming on the
Homelink ® button to be erased!•

Erasing the programming of the Homelink ®
transmitter
When you erase the programming , the programming on
all three of the transmitter channels with be lost!
- Perform steps 1 to 4 as described on~ page 165, "Phase
1: programming the overhead keypad".
When completed, the Homelink ® system will be in the program ­
ming mode and is then ready to learn the codes for remo te
controlled devices.
[ i ] Tips
• Programmed buttons cannot be erased individual ly .
• For secu rity reasons you are advised to erase the programming
of the HomeLink ® system before you sell your vehicle. •

Care of interior

MMI display
-Cle a n the MMI display with a soft c lean clo th and an LCD
cleane r.
The MM I disp lay can be c leaned with a professionally ava ilable "LCD
cleaner" . Th e cloth should be s lightly dampened with the c leaning
fluid to clean the display.

To avoid scratching the MMI display, you should never c lean it dry .•

MMI terminal
- First clean t he MMI terminal with a brush to remove dust
f rom the housing .
- Th en wipe the MMI terminal with a clean, soft, s lig htly
d a mp cloth.
The MM I terminal should be c leaned with a brush first so that no
dirt is trapped between the buttons and the housing . We recom ­
mend giving the MMI terminal a fina l wipe with a c loth moistened
with wa ter and dish washing detergent .
0 Note
To prevent damage, make sure that no f luid ever gets into the MM I
terminal. •
Aluminum trim
Use only neutral -pH products to remove spo ts and deposits from
a luminum surfaces . Chrome care products and alka line cleaners
wi ll attack aluminum surfaces and can damage them over time .

Fabrics and fabric coverings
Fabrics and fabric coverings (e .g . seats, door trim pane ls, etc.l
shou ld be c leaned at regular intervals with a vacuum cleaner . T his
removes surface dirt partic les which could become embedded in
the fabric through use . Steam cleaners should not be used, because
the steam tends to push the dirt deeper into the fabric and lock it
there.
Normal cleaning
Generally, we recommend using a soft sponge or a lint -free
microfiber c loth to the clean fabric . Brushes should on ly be used for
carpets and floor mats , since other fabric surfaces could be harmed
by b rushes. .,,
