App lies to vehicles: with Audi side assist
If side ass ist switches off by itself, the LED in

cover the area in front of the senso rs with bike
wheels, st ickers, dirt or other objects . Clean

proximately 1 second, without the brake ped­
a l being pressed.
Release button
The release button on the selector lever pre­
vents the lever from being accidentally shifted
into certain positions. Pressing this button de­
activates the selector lever lock. Depending
on the direction of the shift, the selector lever
locks at different positions. The positions are
highlighted in the illustration ¢
fig. 132.
Ignition key safety interlock
The key cannot be removed from the ignition
un less the se lector lever is in the P park posi­
tion . When the ign ition key is removed, the
selector lever will be locked in the P position.

Starting the engine
... The selector lever must be in P or N.

Transmission malfunction
[O] Transmission: Press brake pedal and se·
lect g ear again.

[O] Transmission overheating: Please drive
conservatively.
The transmission temperature has increased
significantly d ue to the sporty driving ma nner.

[O] Transmission malfunct ion: You can con ­
tinue driving
There is a system ma lf u nct ion in the transmis ­
sion. You may continue driving. Drive to your
authorized Audi dealer or qualified repair fa­
cility soon to have the malfunction corrected .
[O] Transmission malfunction: Limited driv­
ing funct ionality
There is a sys tem ma lf u nction in t he transmis ­
sion. The transmission is sw itchi ng to emer­
gency mode. Th is mode only sh ifts into cer­
tain gea rs or will no lo nger shift at a ll. The en ­
g ine may stall . Drive to your auth orized A udi
deale r or qualified repair facility immed iately
to have the malf unction co rrec ted.
[O] T ransmission malfunction: Stop vehicle
and shift to park .
Do not continue d rivi ng . Select the P se lect or
l ever position and see yo ur authorized Aud i
dea ler or qualified repair facility for assis­
tance .
(D Note
If the transmiss ion sw itches to emergency
mode, you sho uld take the vehicle to an
author ized Audi dealers hip as soon as p os­
sibl e to have the cond ition co rrected.
Selector lever emergency release
If the vehicle 's power supply fails , th e selec­
tor lever can be released in an emergency.

The new ly adjusted value is briefly heard from
the signal generator.

- The warning tones can a lso be adjusted
directly by the v is ual disp lay or the p ic­
ture from the rearview camera. Simp ly
press the
Sett ings contro l button.
- Changed settings are activated when
parking system is switched on again.
- The settings are automatically stored
and ass igned to the remote control key.
Trailer hitch
Applies to vehicles: with Audi parking system plus w ith
rea rview camera a nd trailer hitch
For vehi cles with a facto ry installed trai ler
hitch, or a trai ler hitch installed according to
factory specifications, the parking system rear
sensors do not come on whenever you shift in­
to reverse gear or when you press the
P, #J\.
switch. Remember, there is no warning for
d istances to the rear . The front sensors re ­
main activated. The visual display switches to
the trailer towing mode. The picture from the
rearv iew camera will not show the orientation
l ines nor the blue su rfaces.
If you install a hitch yourself, th is function
may not work .
Error messages
Applies to vehicles: wi th Audi parking sys te m plus with
rearv iew camera
T he re is an error in the system if t he LED on
the
p, q~ switch is blinking and you hea r a con­
t in uous alarm for a few se conds after switch­
ing on the parking system or when the park­
ing system is already activated . Have yo ur au­
thorized Audi dea ler correct the error.
(D Tips
If the error is not corrected before you
switch off the ignition, when you switch on
the parking system again, the LED in the
Pw J\. switch will blink.

Important safety instructions about
safety belts
Safety belts must always be correctly posi­
tioned across the strongest bones of your
body.
,.. Always wear safety belts as illustrated and
described in this chapter.
,.. Make sure that your safety belts are always
ready for use and are not damaged.
A WARNING
Not wearing safety belts or wearing them
improperly increases the risk of serious
personal injury and death. Safety belts can
work only when used correctly .
- Always fasten your safety belts correctly
before driving
off and make sure all pas­
sengers are correctly restrained.
- For maximum protection, safety belts must always be positioned properly on
the body .
- Never strap more than one person , in­
cluding small children, into any belt.
- Never place a safety belt over a child sit­ ting on your lap.
- Always keep feet in the footwell in front
of the seat while the vehicle is being driv­
en .
- Never let any person ride with their feet on the instrument panel or sticking out
the window or on the seat.
- Never remove a safety belt while the ve­
hicle is moving. Doing so will increase
your risk of be ing injured or killed.
- Never wear belts twisted.
- Never wear belts over rigid or breakable
objects in or on your clothing, such as
eye glasses, pens, keys, etc., as these
may cause injury.
- Never allow safety belts to become dam­
aged by being caught in door or seat
hardware .
- Do not wear the shoulder pa rt of the belt
under your arm or otherwise out of pos i­
tion . -
Several layers of heavy clothing may in­
terfere with correct positioning of belts
and reduce the overall effectiveness of
the system .
- Always keep belt buckles free of anything
that may prevent the buckle from latch­
ing securely .
- Never use comfort clips or devices that
create slack in the shoulder belt . Howev­
er, special clips may be required for the
proper use of some child restraint sys­
tems .
- Torn or frayed safety belts can tear, and
damaged belt hardware can break in an
accident. Inspect belts regularly .
If web­
bing, bindings, buck les, or retractors are
damaged, have belts replaced by an au ­
thorized Audi dealer or qualified work­
shop.
- Safety belts that have been worn and
loaded in an accident must be replaced
with the correct replacement safety belt
by an authorized Audi dealer . Replace­
ment may be necessary even if damage
cannot be clearly seen . Anchorages that
were loaded must also be inspected.
- Never remove, modify, disassemble, or
try to repair the safety belts yourself.
- Always keep the belts clean. Dirty belts
may not work properly and can impair
the function of the inert ia reel

Automatic safety belt retractors
Every safety belt is equipped w ith an automat­
i c belt retractor on the shoulder be lt. T his fea­
ture locks the belt when the belt is pulled out
fast, dur ing hard braking and in an accident.
The belt may also lock when you drive up or
down a steep hill or through a sharp curve. During normal driving the belt lets you move
freely.
Safety belt pretensioners
The safety belts are equipped with a belt pre­
tensioner that helps to tighten the safety belt
and remove slack when the pretensioner is ac­
tivated. The funct ion of the pretensioner is
monitored by a warning light

Sw itchable locking feature
E very sa fety belt except the one on the driver
seat is equipped with a switchable locking fea­
ture that
must be used when the safety belt is
used to attach a child safety seat. Be sure to read the important information about this
feature

- Always make sure that the rear seat
backrest to which the center rear safety
be lt is attached is securely latched when­
ever the rear center safety belt is being
used. If the backrest is not securely
latched, the passenger w ill move for­
ward with the backrest during sudden
braking, in a sudden maneuver and espe­
cially in a crash .
- Never attach th e safety belt to the buck­
le for another seat . Atta ching the belt to
the wrong buckle will reduce s afety be lt
effectiveness and can cause ser ious per­
sonal injury.
- A passenger who is not proper ly restrain ­
ed can be seriously injured by the safety
be lt itself when it moves from the stron­
ger parts of the body into cr itical areas
like the abdomen.
- Always lock the convertible locking re­
tractor when you are securing a child safety seat in the vehicle
c::>page 190.

The engine hood is released from inside the
vehicle .

that the windshield wipers are flat against the
windshie ld. Otherwise, they could damage the
paint on the hood.

Hot engine coolant can burn you.
- To reduce the risk of being burned, never
open the hood if you see or hear steam
or coolant escaping from the eng ine
compartment . Wait unt il no steam or
coolant can be seen or heard before care­
fu lly opening the hood.
Closing the engine hood
"' Pull the hood down until the pressure from
the struts is reduced.

Do not try to push it shut; it may fail to en­

A hood that is not completely latched
could fly up and block your view while dr iv­
ing.
- When you close the engine hood, check it
to make sure the safety catch has proper­
ly engaged. The hood should be flush
with the surround ing vehicle body parts.
- If you notice while driv ing that the hood
is not secured properly, stop at once and
close it .
Working in the engine compartment
Be especially careful whenever you work in
the engine compartment.
Whenever yo u must pe rform any w ork in the
e n g ine com pa rt ment, for e xample ch ecki ng
and filling different fluids, th ere is a risk of

of your vehicle and even void your vehicle war­ ranty. Therefo re , proof of servic ing in accord­
ance w it h the ma intenance sched ule may be a
condition for upholding a poss ible warranty
claim made within the warran ty period.
Above all, operational safety can be adve rsely
affected, c reating unnecessary risks for you
and your passengers.
If in doubt about any serv icing, have it done
by your author ized Audi dealer or any other
p roperly equipped and qualified workshop .

schedu led maintenance and necessary repairs .

even when the engine is off and the igni­
tion key has been removed. The rad iator
fan switches on automatically when the coo lant reaches a certai n tempera ture
and will cont inue to run until the coo lant
temperature drops .
- Always remove the ign ition key befo re
a nyone gets under the veh icle.
- Always suppor t your veh icle with safety
s tands if it is necessary to work under­
neath the vehicle. The jack* s upplied
with the vehicle is not adequate for this purpose and could co llapse causing seri­
ous personal injury .
- If you must work unde rneath the vehicle
with the wheels on the ground, a lways
make sure the vehicle is on leve l ground,
that the wheels are always securely blocked and that the engine cannot be
started.
