MMI Operating Instructions
contain detailed description of the Audi Multi Media Interface (MMD
including the navigation system, the sound system and the hand­
held phone .
The Warranty & Maintenance booklet
explains how you can keep your Audi in top driving condition by
having it serviced regu lar ly and contains detailed information about
the warranties covering your Audi. Always have the booklet with you
when you take your vehicle to an authori zed Audi dea ler for service.
Your Audi Service Adviser will record each schedu led service and
can answer any ques tions y ou may have regarding how to maintain
your vehicle.

• The digital c lock and the odometer are turned on for about 30
seconds when the driver's door is opened.
• When the ignition is turned off, the odometer reading and the
digital clock with date display can be switched on for about
30 seconds by pressing the !CHECK] button~
page 16, fig. 5. •
Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle speed, and the
odometer shows you how many miles (kilometers) you
have driven.

The odometer and trip odometer are located inside the speedom ­
eter.
• USA models - Miles
• Canada models -Kilometers
You can switch the disp lay from miles to kilometers and vice versa
via the MMI.
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven .

Instruments and warning /indicator lights
Upper odometer (trip odometer)
The upper odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven since you last reset the odometer to zero. You can use this
odometer when you want to keep track of how many miles (kilome ­
ters) you have driven for a single trip or errand. The last digit indi­
cates 1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by pressing the Reset button
~ o.o.
Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the instrument cluster,
dEF
wil l appear in the trip odometer and will stay on . Contact your
authorized Audi dealer to have the problem corrected .
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on the ignition key are
scanned automatically.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field. The vehicle cannot be operated
~ page 51.

• The digital clock and the odometer are turned on for about 30
seconds when the driver's door is opened.
• When the ignition is turned off, the odometer reading and the
dig ital clock with date display can be switched on for about

Fuel gauge
The fuel gauge only works when the ignition is on .

Digital speedometer

Current speed appears in the display . Speed is shown in 1 mph
measures (USA models) or 1 km/h measures (Canada models).
You can switch the display from miles to kilometers and vice versa
via the MMI. •
Open door or trunk lid warning
The pictogram alerts you when doors or the rear lid have
been left open.

With the ignition switched on, the open door or rear lid warning illu ­
minates when at least
one door or the hood or the trunk lid is not

closed. The symbol also shows you which door(s) or lid is not
closed.
In the illustration=> fig. 12 it is the driver's door, the left rear door
and the rear lid. As soon as all the doors, the hood, the rear lid and
the fuel filler cap are properly closed, the door and rear lid warning
turns off and the Driver Information System functions selected are
displayed again .•
Defective light bulb warning
The defective light bulb warning tells you when a vehicle
light bulb has become defective.

The defective light bulb warning monitors the function of the light
bulbs . If this symbol illuminates, a brake light, a turn signal (front
or rear), a headlight, the backup light, a fog light or a rear fog light
has failed.
& WARNING
• Light bulbs are pressurized and could explode while they are
being changed causing serious personal injury.
• Work with due care when handling the high-voltage section of
gas discharge (xenon) lights. Failure to do so could result in death
or serious injury . ..,

On-Board Diagnostic system (08D)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIU ~ in the instrument cluster
~ page 17, fig. 7 is part of the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD ID system.
The warning/indicator light illuminates when the ignition is
switched on and goes out after the engine starts and the idle has
stabi lized . This indicates that the MIL is working properly.
If the light does not go out after the engine is started, or illuminates
while you are driving, a malfunction may exist in the engine system.
If the light starts flashing, the catalytic converter could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoiding sustained high
speeds and/or rapid accelerations) and have the condition
corrected. Contact your authorized Audi dealer.
If the light illuminates, the electronic speed limiter may also be
malfunctioning . For more information~
page 29, "Electronic speed
limiter".
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also cause the MIL light to
illuminate
~ page 327. •

Driver information display
On-Board Diagnostics monitors the components of your emission
control system. Each monitored component in your engine sys tem
has been assigned a code. In case of a malfunction, the component
wil l be identified and the fault stored as a code in the control
module memory .
The M IL light may also illuminate if there is a leak in the on -board
fuel vapor recovery system. If the light illuminates after a refuelling,
stop the vehicle and make sure the fuel filler cap is properly closed
~ page 327.
In order to make an accurate diagnosis, the stored data can only be
d isplayed using special diagnostic equipment (generic scan tool for
08D).
In order to connect the special diagnostic equipment, push the plug
into the Data Link Connector (DLC). The DLC is located to the right of
the hood release~ fig. 16.
Your authorized Audi dealer or qualified workshop can interpret the
code and perform the necessary repair. •
Electronic speed limiter
Your vehicle may be factory equipped with tires that are rated for a
maximum speed of 130 mph (210 km/h). This is less than the
maximum speed of your vehicle. To reduce the risk of sudden tire
failure and loss of control if the vehicle is operated at excessive
speeds, your vehicle also has an electronic speed limiter. The elec­
tronic speed limiter prevents your vehicle from going faster than the
tire speed rating. For more information~

If the engine control unit receives faulty vehicle roadspeed signa ls,
the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIU will i lluminate . If this
occurs, contact the nearest authorized Audi dealer for assistance. .,.

Speed warning 1: setting a speed limit
Warning threshold 1 is set by the ( CHECK) button.
Storing the maximum speed
- Drive at the desired maximum speed .

Resetting the maximum speed
- Drive the vehicle at a speed of at least 3 mph
(5 km/h)
- Press the
I CHECK] button for more than 2 seconds.
The speed warning symbol 8 (USA modelsl/ 0 (Canada models) will
appear briefly in the display when you release the [ CHECK] button
to indicate that the maximum speed has been stored successfully .
The maximum speed remains stored until it is changed by pressing
the [ CHECK] button again briefly or until it is deleted by a lengthy
push on the button . •

Switching speed warning on and off
- Press the (CAR] function button.

You should turn on the emergency flashers when:
• you are the last vehicle standing in a traffic jam so that any other
vehicles coming can see you, or when
• your vehicle has broken down or you are in an emergency s itua ­
tion, or when
• your vehicle is being towed by a tow truck or if you are towing
another vehicle behind you .•
Turn signal ¢ ¢ and high beam ~D lever
The lever on the left side of the steering column is used to
operate the turn signals and the high beam as well as the
headlight flasher .

The turn signal and high beam lever has the following func­
tions:

- Lift the lever up all the way=> fig. 66 (D to use the right
turn s ignals, or push the lever down all the way@ to use
the left turn signals.

Au to-blink
- Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of resis ­
tance to use the turn signals for as long as you need
them, for example when changing lanes .
- Move the lever (up or down) just to the point of resis­
tance and then release it right away to make the turn signals blink
three times . You can use this feature for
example when changing lanes on highways.
High b eam ~D
- P ush the lever forward ® to switc h on the high beam.
- P ull the lever back towards you to switch off the high
beam.
H ea dlight fl asher ~D
Pull the lever toward the steering wheel © to use the
headlight flasher.
N otes o n these fea tures
• The turn signals only work with the ignition turned on . The indi ­
cator lights ¢ or¢ in the instrument cluster=> page 17 also blink.
• After you have turned a corner , the turn signal sw itches off auto ­
matically .
• The high beam works only when the head lights are on . The indi ­
cator light [D in the instru ment cluster i llum inates when the high
beams are on.
• The headligh t flash er works only as long as you hold the lever -
even if there are no lights turned on. The indicator light [0 in the
instrument cluster illuminates when you use the headlight flasher . .,,_

Rear interior lights
There are reading lights in the rear for the passengers.

For vehicles with third row seating*, the luggage compartment light
can be switched on and off with the button -M-and used as a reading
light => fig. 70. The rear lid has to be closed.
The lights in the luggage compartment and in the rear lid switch on and off automatically when the lid is opened and closed.

If the rear lid remains open longer than 10 minutes, the luggage
compartment lights turn off automatically to prevent the vehicle
battery from discharging .•

The background lighting can be adjusted in the MM/.

- Press the Systems * control button in the car menu.
- Select

-Rotate the control knob clockwise to increase the bright-
ness, and
- Rotate the control knob
count erclockwis e to reduce the
brightness.
When the vehicle is unlocked, the standard lighting turns on auto­
matically and dims after approx. 2 minutes, and when the ignition is
turned on it switches off immediately. .,

Rear window wiper iitJ
The wiper lever is also used to operate the rear window
wiper and the automatic wiper/washer function.

The rear window wiper and the automa tic wiper/washer
functions are activated as follows:
Intermittent wiping
- Push the wiper lever forward to the first position ©
=> fig. 76. The rear window wiper will wipe the window
approx. every fou r seconds.
Automatic wiper/washer function
- Push the wiper lever forward to the second stop, position
G), and hold it there for as long as you want the rear
wiper/washer to operate.
- Release the lever again. t he wiper will keep running for
approx . four seconds.

-Pull the lever all the way back to the original posit ion.

Clear vision
As soon as the reverse gear is engaged and the front wipers are
turned on and operating at the same time, the rear wiper a lso turns
on automatically.
& WARNING
Wiper blades are crucial for safe driving! Only in good condition
are they able to clear the windows properly to provide unre ­
stricted visibility. Worn or frayed wiper blades are a safety hazard!

In freezing or near freezing conditions:
• Always check that the wiper blades are not frozen to the glass
before you turn the wiper on. Loosen a wiper blade which is frozen
in place before operating the wiper to prevent damage to the wiper
blade or the wiper motor.
• Do not use the wiper to clear a frosted window. Using the wipers
as a convenient ice scraper will destroy the wiper blades. •
Applies to vehicles : with headlight washer system
Headlight washer system
The headlight washer system cleans the headlights .
- Operate the winds hield wiper/washer system::::;, page 81,
fig. 75 G) with the headlights turned on by holding t he
lever for longer than one second .
The washer jets extend forward out of the front bumper driven by
water pressure to spray the front headlights with water .
You should inspect the headlights regularly (for examp le when refu­
eling) and clean off any solid dirt or insects from the lenses.
To ensure the system works properly in winter, keep the washer jets
free of snow and remove any ice using a de-icing spray.•
