The parking brake warning light. (USA)/ .
(CON) illuminates when the parking brake is
set and you switch on the ignition.
_& WARNING
-
Always release the parking brake com­
pletely. A partially engaged brake will
overheat the rear brakes, reduce their ef­
fectiveness and cause excessive wear. This could lead to brake failure and an accident .
(D Note
Only after the vehicle has come to com­ plete stop, should you firmly set the park­
ing brake and move the selector lever into
"P".
Parking
To prevent a parked vehicle from rolling
away, there are a few things you should do .
When you park your vehicle, do the
following
• Stop the vehicle using the brake pedal.
• Apply the parking brake firmly .
• Move the selector lever into the
P position

• Switch off the engine and remove the igni-
tion key from the ignition lock.
When you park your vehicle on hills, do
the following
• Stop the vehicle using the brake pedal.
• Apply the parking brake firmly.
• If you are parking headed downhill, turn
the front wheels
toward the curb.
• If you are parking headed uphill, turn the
front wheels
away from the curb.
• Move the selector lever into the
P position.
• Switch off the engine and remove the igni­
tion key from the ignition lock.
_& WARNING
This is how you can reduce the risk of in­
jury when leaving your vehicle. -
Never park the vehicle where it can come
in contact with dry grass, spilled fuel or
any other flammable materials.
- When parking on hills, always turn the
wheels so that the front wheels will first
roll into the curb, if the vehicle should
start to roll.
- Never allow anyone - especially small
children - to remain in the vehicle when
it is locked. locked doors make it more
difficult for rescuers to access the pas­
senger compartment in the event of an
emergency. Danger to life!
- Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle. Children could release the park­
ing brake or move the gearshift lever out
of gear. The vehicle could start to roll
away and cause an accident.
- No matter what the season is, the tem­
perature in a parked vehicle can reach
dangerous levels.
@ Note
-Please exercise care when you park your
vehicle in parking areas with parking bar­
riers or curbs. Parking barriers and curbs
vary in height and could damage your
bumper and related components as the
front of your vehicle moves over a barrier or curb that is too high, as you park or as
you back out of a parking spot. In order to be sure that no such damage can oc­
cur, you may wish to stop short of having
the front tires of your car touch the park­
ing barrier or curb.
- Please also exercise exceptional care
when you drive up or down steep ramps
or drive over curbs or other obstacles, for
which the vehicle is not designed, be­
cause components of the vehicle close to
the ground, such as bumper covers, spoilers and suspension and exhaust sys­
tem components, may become dam­ aged.
Starting on hills
Hill Hold makes it easier to start on hills.

ACC not available
The text message ACC not available appears,
for example, if the temperature of the brakes
i s excessive. Adaptive cruise control is tempo­
rarily not available. A warning tone sounds as
a reminder .
ACC not available!
The text message ACC not available! appears
in the event of a malf uncti on. Adaptive cruise
control is tu rned off . A warning tone sounds
as a reminder. Have the system inspected by a
qua lified dealership.
ACC sensor blocked !
The text message ACC sensor blocked ! ap­
pears when the ACC System can no longer ac­
curately detect vehicles moving up ahead in
your lane of travel. Adaptive cr uise control is
turned off. A warning tone also sounds as a re­ minder.
To decide whether it is necessary to switch off
the ACC (ACC sensor blocked
!) or if it is only a
temporary condition (ACC Functionally limit­
ed), the system will a lso takes into cons idera­
tion the outside temperature and/or the wind­
shield wiper operation .
The ACC sensor is dirty or blocked (e.g. leaves,
snow).
The ACC sensor is loca ted behind the area to
the right of the front license plate . If the ACC
sensor is dirty or blocked, clean the area to re­
store system operat ion.
Stability program
The text message Stability program appea rs
if the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) has in­
tervened . In th is case the adaptive cr uise con ­
trol is automatically turned off. Th is is accom­
panied by a warn ing tone.
Speed
The set speed in mph (Canada km/h) always
appears when saving or changing the speed in
Adaptive cruise control 123

ACC functionality limited
T he message ACC functionality limited ap­
pears when the ACC System does not detect
any moving vehicles up ahead in your lane of
trave l for a longer period of time . During t his
time, the distance to moving vehicles in your
lane of travel up ahead is not being main­
ta ined . The ACC system is not switched off,
and increased attention to the traffic situation
is absolutely necessary. The following may be
reasons why the message
ACC functionality
limited
appears:
- The ACC sensor is d irty. The ACC system is
not reacting, or is not reacting co rrectly, to
moving vehicles up ahead in your lane of
travel.
- There may be very light traffic on and there
is noth ing that marks the side of the road
(for examp le, guard ra ils, traffic signs,
t rees). As soon as a moving vehicle up ahead
is detected again, ACC becomes active again
and the message disappears.
T he ACC senso r is located behind the area to
the right of the front license p late.
If the ACC
sensor is dirty or blocked, clean the area to re ­
store system operation.
Parking brake!
The text message Parking brake! appears,
whe n the parking brake is applied. ACC is
turned off. A warning tone sounds as a re­
minder.
Stationary object ahead
T he text message Stationary object ahead ap­
pears, whe n you want to activate the system
and there is a stationary vehicle or an object
immediately in front of you .
Gradient too steep
The text message Gradient too steep appears
when the maximum gradient for prope r ACC
operation has been exceeded. Adaptive cruise .,.

-The radar sensor's vision can be reduced
or entirely blocked by rain, snow, and
heavy spray . This can result in side assist
not adequately detecting vehicles or, in
some cases, not detecting them at all.
Always keep an eye on the direction you
are traveling and the relevant area
around the vehicle.
- Please note that side assist indicates
there are approaching vehicles, or vehi­ cles in your blind spot, only after your ve­
hicle has reached a driving speed of at
least 19 mph (30 km/h).
- Side assist signal does not work around
tight corners (turning radius less than
328 feet, or 100 m).
- Side assist is no replacement for the driv­
er's full attention. The driver alone is re­
sponsible for lane changes and similar
driving maneuvers. Always keep an eye
on the direction you are traveling and the relevant area around the vehicle.
- To ensure that you do not adversely af­
fect side assist, do not block the area on
the rear bumper where the radar sensors
are located with foreign objects (such as
stickers or bicycle racks).
- Make sure that the signal light on the
outside mirror is not blocked by stickers
or other items.

- Side assist automatically deactivates if it
detects that the radar sensors are
blocked ¢

- The area on the bumper where the radar
sensors are located must consistently re­
main free of snow, ice, and heavy soiling
so that side assist can function properly.

ing hitch* or a trailer hitch* that was in­
stalled later according to factory specifi­
cations, side assist is automatically deac- tivated
as soon as the electrical connec­
tion to the trailer electrical socket is made

not installed according to factory specifi­
cations, switch off the side assist when
towing a trailer .
- Additional tinting on the front side win­
dows can make it harder to see and cor­
rectly understand the signal light on the

Side assist's detection area is designed to cov­
e r l anes of standard w idth to the left and
r ight of your travel lane, depending on wheth­
er you dr ive in the center of your lane or closer
to the edge.
I f you drive in narrow lanes, s ide ass ist's de­
tec tion a rea may a lso incl ude other lanes -es­
pec ia lly if you tend to drive on the edge of
your lane

vehicle 's battery charge be ing low), side assist

di dealer or qualified workshop.
Audi side assist not availabl e when
towing
The radar sensor's view is limited when tow­
ing a tra iler. For vehicles with a factory instal­
led towing hitch or a trailer hitch that was in­
stalled later according to facto ry specifica­
tions, s ide ass ist is automatically deact ivated
as soon as the ele ctrical connection to the
trailer's e lectrical socke t is made, and this sta­
tus message appears in the instrument clus­
ter display. Deactivation cannot be guaran ­
teed when using a retrofitted towing hitch
that was
not installed according to factory
specifications.

The s ide ass ist detect ion may be lim ited when
d riving around narrow street corners , on hilly
streets, and under poor weathe r cond itions.
It is poss ible that the radar sensors may also
detect other objects , such as high or stag­
gered guardra ils .
Side assist does not measure actual lane
width . The system assumes a fixed lane w idth .
Detection in the left and r ight lanes is based
on this assumed lane width . When driving on
na rrow roads or when driving to the left or
right of the center of a travel lane , it is possi ­
b le that vehicles will be detected that are
not
in the lane next to the lane you are using.
A WARNING
- Improper reliance on the s ide assist sys­
tem can cause collisions and serious per­
sonal injury :
- Never rely only on side assist when
changing lanes .
- Always check rear view mirrors to make
sure that it is safe to change lanes.
- Side ass ist cannot detect a ll vehicles un­
der all cond itions- danger of accident!
- Side ass ist cannot detect vehicles in time
to alert you when they approach from beh ind at very h igh speed, or fall d rop
back very quickly.

When stopped, keep the brake pedal
fully depressed and use the parking brake if necessary to keep the vehicle
from ro lling .
- If the selector lever is unintentionally
moved into N wh ile you are driving, take
yo ur foot off the accele rato r pedal and
wa it for the engine to return to idle
speed befo re selecting a d rivi ng position .
- Never shift into "R" or "P" when the vehi­
cle is in mot ion.
- Never get out of the dr iver 's seat when
the engine is runn ing .
- If you must get out of the vehicle, move
the se lector lever securely into the P po­
sit io n and apply the par king brake f irm ly.
- If the eng ine must remain ru nning, never
hav e any driv ing pos ition engaged when
c hec king under the hood . M ake sure t he
sele ctor lever has securely eng aged and
is locke d in "P" with the par king brake
firmly set ¢

Automatic Shift Lock (ASL)
The Automa tic Shift Lock safeguards you
against accidentally shifting into a forward or
the reverse gear and causing th e vehicle to
move unintentionally .

Automatic selector lever lock
The selecto r leve r is lo cked in the P and N po­
s itions w hen the ig nitio n is tu rned on. To
move t he lever from these posit ions the driver
must de press the brake peda l. As a remin der
to the d river, the following warning appears in
the instr ument cluster d isp lay w hen the selec­
tor is in
P and N :
When stationary apply foot brake while se­
lecting gear
A time de lay eleme nt preven ts the sele ctor
l ever from locking when it is moved through
the
N position (going from R to D ). T he lock ­
ing element wi ll lock the selector lever i f the
lever is left i n N (Ne utral) for more than ap­
proximately 1 second, without the brake ped­
al be ing pressed .
At speeds above about 3 mph (5 km/h) the
Automat ic Shift Lock is automatically deact i­
vated in the
N posit ion.
Interlock button
The loc k button on t he selecto r lever prevents
the lever from being accidentally s hifted into
certain positions. Pressing this b utton deacti­
vates the selector lever lock. Depending on
the d irection of the shift, the selector lever
l ocks at differe nt pos it io ns. Th e pos itions are

Ignition key safety interlock
The key cannot be removed from the ign ition
u nless the selector lever is in t he
P park posi­
tion . When the ignit ion key is removed, t he
selector lever w ill be locked in t he
P pos ition.

mode, you should take the vehicle to an
authorized Audi dealership as soon as pos­
sible to have the condition corrected.
Emergency release for selector lever
If the vehicle's power supply fails, the selec­ tor lever can be released in an emergency .

The selector lever can only be moved from the
P position if the ignition key is in the lock and
the ignition is turned on . If the vehicle has to
be pushed or towed if the power supply fai ls
(e .g. battery is discharged), the selector lever
must be moved to the
N position using the
emergency locking device.

The reorview camera switches on automati­
cally together with the acoustic and visual
pork assist when you put the vehicle in re­ verse .

A WARNING

- The MMI d isplay cannot show, or ca nnot
adequately show, certain objects (such as
sma ll posts or grating), recesses in the
g rou nd a nd p rot ruding pa rts on ano ther
car.
- Onl y use t he rearview camera to ass ist
you i f it shows a good, clear pic ture. For
examp le, the image may be affec ted by
the sun s hining into the lens, d irt on the
lens or if there is a defect.
- Use the rearv iew came ra only wi th the
rear lid comp lete ly closed . Make s ure any
objects you may have mounted on the
rear lid do not b lock the rearview cam­
era.

- The sensors m ust be kept clean and free
of snow and ice for the park assist to op­
erate.
- The visua l display is shown in the ill us­
tration of the rearview camera. Th is dis ­
play shows where the sensors have de­
tected an obstacle.

• Always keep both feet in the footwell so
that you are in control of the vehicle at all
times.
For detailed information on how to adjust the
driver's seat, see

A WARNING
Drivers who are unbelted, out of position
or too close to the airbag can be seriously
injured by an airbag as it unfolds. To help
reduce the risk of serious personal injury:
- Always adjust the driver's seat and the
steering wheel so that there are at least
10 inches (25 cm) between your breast­
bone and the steering wheel.
- Always hold the steering wheel on the
outside of the steering wheel rim with
your hands at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions to help reduce the risk of per­
sonal injury if the driver's airbag inflates.
- Never hold the steering wheel at the
12 o'clock position or with your hands at
other positions inside the steering wheel
rim or on the steering wheel hub. Hold­
ing the steering wheel the wrong way
can cause serious injuries to the hands,
arms and head if the driver's airbag de­
ploys.
- Pointing the steering wheel toward your
face decreases the ability of the supple­
mental driver 's airbag to protect you in a
collision .
- Always sit in an upright position and nev­
er lean against or place any part of your
body too close to the area where the air ­
bags are located.
- Before driving, always adjust the front
seats and head restraints properly and
make sure that all passengers are prop­
erly restrained.
- Never adjust the seats while the vehicle
is moving . Your seat may move unexpect­
edly and you could lose control of the ve­
hicle.
- Never drive with the backrest reclined or
tilted far back! The farther the backrests
are tilted back, the greater the risk of in- jury due to incorrect positioning of the
safety belt and improper seating posi­
tion.
- Children must always ride in child safety

Proper seating position for the front
passenger
The proper front passenger seating position
is important for safe, relaxed driving .
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of
injury in the event of an accident, we recom ­
mend that you adjust the seat for the front
passenger to the following position :
• Adjust the angle of the seatback so that it is
in an upright position and your back comes
in full contact with it whenever the vehicle is
moving .
• Adjust the head restraint so the upper edge
is as even as possible with the top of your
head. If that is not possible, try to adjust
the head restraint so that it is as close to
this position as possible ¢

• Keep both feet flat on the floor in front of
the front passenger seat .
• Fasten and wear safety belts correct­
ly ¢

A WARNING
-Front seat passengers who are unbelted,
