A WARNING
Do not assume the roads are free of ice based
on the outside temperature display . Be aware
that there may be ice on roads even when the
outside temperature is around 41 °F (+5 °C)
and that ice can increase the risk of accidents .
(D Tips
- Depending on vehicle equipment, the in­
strument illumination (needles and gauges) may turn on when the lights are
off and the
ignition is switched on . The illumination for
the gauges reduces automatically and even­
tually turns off as brightness outside in­
creases. This function reminds the driver to
turn the low beams on at the appropriate
time.
- You can select the units used for tempera­
ture, speed and other measurements in the
Infotainment system¢
page 245.
-If your vehicle is stationary or if you are driv­
ing at very low speeds, the temperature dis­
played may be slightly higher than the ac­
tual temperature outside due to the heat ra­
diating from the engine.
- At temperatures below 41 °F (+5 °C), a
snowflake symbol appears in front of the
temperature display¢,&. .
Coolant temperature indicator
The coolant temperature display@¢ page 10,
fig . 3
or ¢ page 10, fig . 4 only functions when
the ignition is switched on. To prevent engine
damage, please observe the following notes
about the temperature ranges.
Cold range
If only the LEDs at the bottom of the gauge turn
on, the engine has not reached operating tem­ perature yet . Avoid high engine speeds, full ac­
celeration and heavy engine loads.
Cockpit overview
Normal range
The engine has reached its operating tempera­
ture once the LEDs up to the center of the gauge
turn on. If the. indicator light in the instru­
ment cluster display turns on, the coolant tem­
perature is too high ¢
page 22.
@ Note
-Auxiliary headlights and other accessories in
front of the cooling-air intake impair the
cooling effect of the coolant. This increases
the risk of the engine overheating during
high outside temperatures and heavy en­
gine load .
- The front spoiler also helps to distribute
cooling air correctly while driving. If the
spoiler is damaged, the cooling effect will
be impaired and the risk of the engine over­
heating will increase. See an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Fa­
cility for assistance.
{D Tips
Applies to: vehicles with diesel engines
Due to the high efficiency of these engines,
the engine may not always reach operating
temperature in cold outside temperatures.
This is normal and not a cause for concern.
Tachometer
The tachometer displays the engine speed in rev­
olutions per minute (RPM).
The beginning of the red zone in the tachometer
indicates the maximum permissible engine speed
for all gears once the engine has been broken in.
Before reaching this zone, you should shift into
the next highest gear, select the "D/S" selector
lever position, or remove your foot from the ac ­
celerator pedal.

Upshifting early helps you to save fuel and re­
duces operating noise.
© Tips
Depending on t he e ngine : the engine speed
may be lim ited when the engine is cold -the
full engine ou tput wi ll not be avai lable . When
the engine is at operating temperat ure, the
red area in the tachomete r moves to a h igher
RPM range.
Fuel level
The display (J) ¢ page 10 , fig. 3 or ¢ page 10,
fig . 4 only functions when the ign ition is switch ­
ed on . When the display has reached the reserve
mark, a red L ED t urns on a nd the

page 27. The red L ED w ill blink
when the f uel leve l is very low.

Technical Data

(D Note
Never d rive until the tank is completely emp­
ty . The irregular supp ly of f uel that results
from that can ca use engine misfi res . Uncom­
busted fuel will the n ente r the exhaust sys­
t em. This can ca use overheating and damage
t o the cata lytic conver ter.

Tr ip odometer and odometer
The trip odometer shows the dis tan ce driven
s ince it was last reset. It can be used to measure
short d istances.
The trip odometer ca n be reset to zero by press­
i ng th e ~ reset but ton.
The odometer shows the total distance that the
vehicle has been drive n.
Malfunction indicator
If there is a malfunction in the instrument clus­
ter,
DEF will appear in the trip odometer display.
Have the malfu nction corrected as soon as possi ­
ble .

The short -term memory collects driving informa­
tion from the t ime the ignition is sw itched on un­
til it is switched off . If you continue driving with­
in two hours after switching the ignition off, the
new values are included when calculating the cur­
rent tr ip informat io n.
Unlike the short-t erm memory, the long -term
memory is not erased automat ica lly . You can se­
lect the time period for evaluating trip informa­
tion you rself .

Fuel consumption
The current fuel consumption can be shown us­
i ng a bar graph ¢
fig. 12. The average consump ­
tion stored in the short-term memory is also dis­
played. If the bar is green, your vehicle is saving
fuel through the following function:
- Recuperation : electrical energy can be stored i n
the vehicle battery when the vehicle is coasting
or driving down hill. The bar will move toward
0.

mat can be set in the Infota inment system

In the Energy consumers view, the other equip­
ment that is current ly affecting fue l consumption
i s listed in the first tab (on-board computer). The
display shows up to three energy consumers @

li sted first . If mo re than three items using power
are switched on, the equipment that is currently
u sin g the most power is displayed.
A gauge @ also shows the current total con­
sumption of all othe r consumers .

Display content
In the Infotainment system, you can specify
which information should be d isp layed: For ex­
amp le , this ca n include navigatio n information *,
adaptive c ruise co ntro l* or camera-based traffic
s ign recognition*.
The display o f ce rtain information and some of
the red indicator l igh ts can not be hidden in the
Infota inment system.
Brightness
You can adjust the disp lay br ightness in the Info­
ta inment system . The display br ightness decreas­
es automatically as the amount of light decreas ­
es. The backg round br ightness is ad justed w ith
the instr ument illumination ~
page 47.
Picture rotation
You can rotate the picture in the Infotainment
system clockwise or counterclockwise.

To prevent scratches on the g lass covering the
head -up d isp lay, do not place any ob jects in
the projection opening.
(D Tips
- Sung lasses with polarization fi lters and un ­
favorab le lighting conditions can have a
negative effect on the display.
- An optimum display depends on t he seat
position and the height adjustment of the
head-up display.
- A specia l windshield is needed for the head ­
u p d isp lay f unction.

Indicator lights
Description
The indicato r lights in the inst rument cl uste r
blink or t urn on. They indica te funct ions or ma l­
f u nctions.
M essages may appea r with some indicator lights.
A wa rni ng sig nal w ill sound at the same t ime.
The indicato r lights and messages in the ins tru ­
ment cluster display can be covered by other d is ­
p lays. To show them again, select the second tab
with the mu ltifunction stee ring wheel
¢ page 12.
If there are several malfunctions, you can d isplay
them one at a time using the thumbwheel.
Some indicator lights in the disp lay can display in
several colors.
& Central indicator light
If the . or Q indicator light turns on, check
the message in the instrument cluster .
Overview
Some indicator lights turn on briefly as a function
check when you switch the ign ition on . These sys­
tems are marked wit h a./ in the following tables.
I f one of these indica to r ligh ts does not tur n on,
there is a ma lfu nction in t hat system.

Cockpit overview
A WARNING
Have the safety systems inspected immedi­
ately. Otherwise, there is a risk that the sys­
tems may not activate during a collision,
which increases the risk of serious injury or
death.
( CD ) Brake system
[I] Brakes overheating. Please shift to D

There was a heavy load on the brakes. Place the
selector lever in the "D/S" position in order to use
the engine braking effect and reduce the load on
the brakes.

II (USA models)/EiJ (Canada models) Brake
pads: wear limit reached. You can continue driv­
ing. Please contact Service
The brake pads are worn .
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized
Audi Service Facility as soon as possible to have
the malfunction corrected.
~ Engine control
II Drive system: malfunction! Please contact
Service
There is an engine control malfunction.
Drive slowly to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility to have the engine
checked .
W Engine control (diesel engine)
Applies to: vehicles with diesel engines
The engine is preheating if the II indicator light
turns on when the ignition is switched on.
If the indicator light does not turn on or blinks
while driving, there is an engine control malfunc­
tion.
Immediately drive slowly to an authorized Audi
dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility to have
the malfunction corrected.

!?i Engine speed limitation
(II Maximum engine speed: XXXX rpm
The engine speed is automatically limited to the
speed displayed in the instrument cluster. This
protects the engine from overheating.
The engine speed limitation deactivates once the
engine is no longer in the critical temperature
range and you have released the accelerator ped­
al once .
If the engine speed limitation was activated by
an engine control malfunction, the
II indicator
light also turns on . Make sure the engine speed
does not go above the speed displayed, for exam­
ple when downshifting . Drive to an authorized
Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service Facility im­
mediately to have the malfunction corrected.
(D Tips
Depending on the engine: the engine speed
may be limited when the engine is cold -the
full engine output will not be available. When
the engine is at operating temperature, the
red area in the tachometer moves to a higher
RPM range.
~ ... Engine oil sensor
• Oil level system: malfunction! Please con­
tact Service
The sensor to check the engine oil level has
failed . Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or au­
thorized Audi Service Facility immediately to have
the malfunction corrected.
• Oil level sensor: oil change necessary. Please
contact Service
Fuel has entered the engine oil as a result of fre­
quent short drives. Avoid high engine speeds, full
acceleration and heavy engine loads. Drive to an
authorized Audi dealer or authorized Audi Service
Facility immediately to have the oil changed.
• Oil pressure sensor: malfunction! Please
contact Service
There is a malfunction in the oil pressure sensor.
Drive to an authorized Audi dealer or authorized .,.

- If you leave the vehicle, sw itch the ignition
off and take the veh icle key with you. This
app lies pa rtic ula rly whe n children remain in
the vehicle. Otherwise chi ldren cou ld start
the engine or operate e lectrica l equipment
(such as power windows), which increases
the risk of an accident.
- A ma lfunction in the chi ld safety lock could
allow the rear doors to be opened from the
inside, which increases the risk of an acci­
dent.
