ActiveBlindSpotDetection
Theconcept
Two radar sensors in the rear bumper monitor
the area behind and next to the vehicle at
speeds above approx. 30 mph/50 km/h.
The system indicates whether there are vehij
cles in the blind spot, arrow 1, or approaching from behind on the adjacent lane, arrow 2.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing is dimj med.
Before you change lanes after setting the turn
signal, the system issues a warning in the sitj
uations described above.
The lamp in the exterior mirror housing flashes and the steering wheel vibrates.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess visij bility and traffic situation. There is a risk of anaccident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic
conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively intervene in the respective situations.'

Prewarning
The dimmed lamp in the exterior mirror housj ing indicates when there are vehicles in the
blind spot or approaching from behind.
Acutewarning If the turn signal is set while a vehicle is in the
critical zone, the steering wheel vibrates briefly
and the lamp in the exterior mirror housing
flashes brightly.
The warning stops when the turn signal is
switched off, or the other vehicle leaves the
critical zone.
Briefflashing A brief flashing of the lamp during vehicle unj
locking serves as system self-test.
Systemlimits
Safetyinformation WARNING

trips, e.g., on highways. In this situation, it is
recommended that the driver takes a break.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess
one's physical state. An increasing lack of
alertness or fatigue may not be detected or not
be detected in time. There is a risk of an accij
dent. Make sure that the driver is rested and
alert. Adjust the driving style to the traffic conj
ditions.'

DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Anti-lockBrakingSystem
ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during
braking.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing
active safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the enj gine.
Brakeassistant When you apply the brakes rapidly, this systemautomatically produces the greatest possible
braking force boost. It reduces the braking disj
tance to a minimum during emergency stop.
This system utilizes all of the benefits provided
by ABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.DSCDynamicStability
Control
Theconcept Within the physical limits, the system helps to
keep the vehicle on a steady course by reducj ing engine speed and by applying brakes tothe individual wheels.
Generalinformation Dynamic Stability Control detects, e.g., the foljlowing unstable driving conditions:'yFishtailing, which can lead to oversteering.'yLoss of traction of the front wheels, which
can lead to understeering.
Dynamic Traction Control DTC, refer to
page 145, is a version of the DSC where forj
ward momentum is optimized.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysj
tem, it cannot independently react to all traffic
situations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch
traffic closely and actively intervene in the rej
spective situations.'

DSC OFF button
Indicator/warninglights The indicator lamp flashes: DSC conj
trols the drive and braking forces.
The indicator lamp lights up: DSC has
malfunctioned.
DeactivatingDSC:DSCOFF
Generalinformation When DSC is deactivated, driving stability is
reduced during acceleration and when driving in curves.
To increase vehicle stability, activate DSC again as soon as possible.
DeactivatingDSC Press and hold this button but not lonjger than approx. 10 seconds, until the
indicator light for DSC OFF lights up in the inj
strument cluster and displays DSC OFF.
DSC is switched off.
The steering and, depending on the equipj
ment, suspension are tuned for sporty driving.
ActivatingDSC Press button.
DSC OFF and the DSC OFF indicator lamp goout.
Indicator/warninglights When DSC is deactivated, DSC OFF is disj
played in the instrument cluster.
The indicator lamp lights up: DSC is
deactivated.
DTCDynamicTraction
Control
Concept
DTC is a version of the DSC where forward
momentum is optimized.
The system ensures maximum headway on
special road conditions or loose road surfaces,
for instance unplowed snowy roads, but with somewhat limited driving stability.
When DTC is activated, the vehicle has maxij
mum traction. Driving stability is limited during
acceleration and when driving in curves.
Drive carefully.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC
under the following special circumstances:'yWhen driving in slush or on uncleared,
snow-covered roads.'yWhen freeing vehicle from deep snow or driving off from loose ground.'yWhen driving with snow chains.

xDrive xDrive is the all-wheel-drive system of your vej
hicle. Concerted action by the xDrive and DSC
further optimize traction and driving dynamics. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system variably disj
tributes the drive forces to the front and rear
axles as demanded by the driving situation and
road surface.
DynamicDampingControl
Concept
This system reduces undesirable vehicle moj tion when using a dynamic driving style or travj eling on uneven road surfaces.
This enhances the driving dynamics and drivj
ing comfort depending on the road surface condition and driving style.
ProgramsThe system offers several different programs.
The programs can be selected via Driving Dyj namics Control.
SPORT Consistently sporty control of the shock abj
sorbers for greater driving agility.
SPORT+ Consistently sporty control of the shock abj
sorbers for greater driving agility when driving
with limited driving stabilization.
COMFORT/ECOPRO
Balanced control of the vehicle.Variablesportsteering
The support offered by the variable sportsteering changes according to the angle by
which the steering wheel has been turned and
the speed.
So, for instance the steering angle of the front
wheels is made larger when parking or taking tight corners. This makes it easier to drive
around bends.
Furthermore, the system provides the steering
with more support at low speeds than at higher
ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance,
and makes steering more direct when driving
at faster speeds.
By taking the angle by which the steering
wheel has been turned and the speed into acj
count, a sporty steering response adapted to
the particular driving situation can be achieved.
DrivingDynamicsControl Concept
The Driving Dynamics Control helps to fine- tune the vehicle's settings and features. Varij
ous programs can be selected for this purpose.
The Driving Dynamics Control and the DSC
OFF buttons can each be used to activate a
program.

Servotronic is a speed-dependent power steering function.
The system provides the steering force with
more support at low speeds than at higher ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance, and makes steering more direct when drivingat faster speeds.

Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a disj
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle acj
celerates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the
set distance to the vehicle ahead is mainj
tained. The speed is adjusted as far as the
given situation allows.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respecj tive speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and
then proceeds to drive again within a brief pej
riod, the system is able to detect this within the given system limits.
Generalinformation
Depending on the driving settings, the features of the cruise control can change in certain
areas.Safetyinformation
