Interruptionoftheopeningprocedure
The opening procedure is interrupted in the following situations:
'yWhen the vehicle starts moving.'yBy pressing the button on the outside of
the tailgate. Pressing again closes the tailj gate.'yBy pressing the button on the inside of thetailgate. Pressing again closes the tailgate.'yBy pressing the button on the remote conj
trol. Pressing again continues the opening
motion.'yBy pressing or pulling the button in the
driver's door. Pressing again continues the
opening motion.
Closing
Functionalrequirement
The lower tailgate must be closed; otherwise, a
Check Control message will appear.
Fromtheoutside
Press the button on tailgate's exterior.
Fromtheinside Pull and hold the button in the driverdoor.
The remote control must be located in the
car's interior for this function.
An acoustic signal sounds before the tailgate is
closed.
Frominsidethetailgate
Without Comfort Access:
Press button on the inside of the tailgate.
With Comfort Access:

'yPress button, arrow 1, on the inside of the

The vehicle will be locked after closing the
tailgate. The driver's door must be closed
for this purpose and the remote control
must be outside of the vehicle in the area
of the tailgate.
Interruptionoftheclosingprocedure
The closing procedure is interrupted in the folj
lowing situations:
'yIf the vehicle starts off with a jerky movej
ment.'yBy pressing the button on the outside of
the tailgate. Pressing again re-opens the tailgate.'yBy pressing the button on the inside of thetailgate. Pressing again re-opens the tailj
gate.'yBy releasing the button in the driver's door.
BMWX5M:lowertailgate
Opening
Pull the lever and swing the tailgate down. When open, the tailgate can support loads ofup to 550 lbs/250 kg.
Closing Swing the tailgate up and press it back into pojsition.
Malfunction
Safetyinformation

Danger of jamming with folding down the
backrests. There is a risk of injury or risk of damage to property. Make sure that the area ofmovement of the rear backrest and the of thehead restraint is clear prior to folding down.'

When there is an electrical malfunction.1.Fold the rear seat backrest forward.2.In the lower tailgate, loosen and remove
the cover using the onboard vehicle tool kit or a suitable object.3.Pull the strap in the direction of the car's
interior.
The tailgate is unlocked.4.The top tailgate opens, press the strap back in.5.Insert and close the cover.
The tailgate is locked again as soon as it is
closed.
Manualoperation Operate the unlocked tailgate manually with a
slow and smooth motion.
To close the tailgate fully, press down lightly
only. Closing occurs automatically.

Body parts can be jammed while operatj
ing the doors. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that the area of movement of the doors isclear during opening and closing.'

Selectingadriverprofile
Regardless of the remote control in use, a difj
ferent driver profile may be activated. This alj
lows you to call up personal vehicle settings, even if you did not unlock the vehicle with your
own remote control.

the country version, various settings for openj ing and closing are possible.

When the vehicle is unlocked, the driver's seat and exterior mirrors resume their last set posijtions. When the drive-ready state is switched
on, the steering wheel is moved to its last set
position.
The most recent position is independent of the
positions saved via the seat memory.

Alarmsystem
Generalinformation
When the vehicle is locked, the vehicle alarm
system reacts to the following changes:
'yUnauthorized opening of a door, the hood
or the tailgate.'yMovements in the car's interior.'yChanges in the vehicle tilt, e. g., during atj tempts at stealing a wheel or when towing
the vehicle.'yDisconnected battery voltage.'yImproper use of the socket for Onboard Dij
agnosis.
The alarm system signals these changes visuj
ally and acoustically:
'yAcoustic alarm.
Depending on local regulations, the acousj
tic alarm may be suppressed.'yBy switching on the hazard warning sysj tem.'yBy flashing the daytime running lights.
Switchingon/off
When you lock and unlock the vehicle with the
remote control or Comfort Access, the alarm
system will also switch on or off at the same
time.
Openingthedoorswiththealarm systemswitchedon
The alarm system is triggered when a door is opened if the door was unlocked using theintegrated key in the door lock.

Openingthetailgatewiththealarm
systemswitchedon
The tailgate can be opened even when the alarm system is switched on.
After the tailgate is closed, it is locked and
monitored again provided the doors are
locked. The hazard warning system flashes
once.
Panicmode
You can trigger the alarm system if you find yourself in a dangerous situation.

trol and hold for at least 3 secj
onds.'yBriefly press the button on the remote conj
trol three times in succession.
To switch off the alarm: press any button.

The vehicle has not been tampered with.'yThe indicator light flashes after unlocking until the engine ignition is switched on, butno longer than approx. 5 minutes:
An alarm has been triggered.
Tiltalarmsensor The tilt of the vehicle is monitored.
The alarm system responds in situations such
as attempts to steal a wheel or when the vehij
cle is towed.
Interiormotionsensor
The windows and the glass sunroof must be
closed for the system to function properly.
Avoidingunintentionalalarms
Generalinformation
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion senj
sor can trigger an alarm, although no unauthorj ized action occurred.
Possible situations for an unwanted alarm:'yIn automatic vehicle washes.'yIn duplex garages.'yDuring transport on trains carrying vehij
cles, at sea or on a trailer.'yWith animals in the vehicle.'yAt the gas station: if the vehicle is locked
after refueling starts.
The tilt alarm sensor and the interior motion sensor can be switched off in such situations.

Press the remote control button againwithin 10 seconds as soon as the vehicle
is locked.
The indicator light lights up for approx. 2 secj onds and then continues to flash.

Safetyswitch
Generalinformation
The safety switch in the driver's door can be
used to prevent children, for instance from
opening and closing the rear windows using
the switches in the rear.
If an accident of a certain severity occurs, the safety function is switched off automatically.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED lights up if the safety funcj
tion is switched on.
Rollersunblinds
Generalinformation If you are no longer able to move a roller sunj
blind after having activated it consecutively a number of times, the system is blocked for a
limited time to prevent overheating. Let the
system cool.
It may not be possible to move roller sunblinds
at low interior temperatures.
Rollersunblindsfortherearside
windows
Pull out the roller sunblind at the strap and hook it onto the bracket.
WARNING
With closed roller sunblinds and open
windows, the roller sunblinds can be loaded
heavily while driving due to the wind. The roller
sunblinds can be damaged and compromise
the occupants. There is a risk of injury. Do not open the windows while driving if the roller
sunblinds are closed.'
