Reduce speed and shift to a lower gear before you start down a long or
steep downgrade.
If you don’t shift down, you might have to use your
brakes
so much that they would get hot and no longer work well.
On a long uphill grade, shift down and reduce your speed to around 45 mph
(70 km/h) or less to reduce the possibility of engine and transaxle overheating.
If your trailer weighs more than 1,000 pounds (450 Kg) and you have an
automatic transaxle with Overdrive, you may want to drive in
66 3 ¶? instead
of Overdrive
Parking on Hills
You really should not park your vehicle, with a trailer attached, on a hill.
If something goes wrong, your rig could start to move. People can be
injured, and both your vehicle and the trailer can be damaged.
But
if you ever have to park your rig on a hill, here’s how to do it:
Apply your regular brakes, but do not shift into “P” (Park).
Have someone place chocks under the trailer wheels.
When the wheel chocks are in place, release the regular brakes until

1. Apply your regular brakes and hold the pedal down while you:

Your cooling system may temporarily overheat during severe operating
conditions such as;
Climbing grades steeper than 4% at ambient temperatures above
90 Fahrenheit (32O Celsius) with a loaded vehicle and trailer.

0 Idling for long periods in stop and go traffic.
If “ENGINE HOT A/C COMPRESSOR
OFF” message appears on the
Driver Information Center, do not be alarmed. This is a normal function
designed to reduce the load
on the engine and cooling system. You can
continue to drive your vehicle.
If “ENGINE COOLANT HOT IDLE ENGINE’’ message appears on
the Driver Information Center, pull off to the side of the road as soon as
it is safe to do
so. When the vehicle is at a complete stop, shift the

three minutes the system should cool sufficiently to allow A/C operation

If your battery has run down, you may want to use another vehicle and
some jumper cables to start your Cadillac . But please follow the steps
below to
do it safely.

NOTICE:
Ignoring these steps could result in costly damage to your
vehicle that wouldn’t be covered by your warranty.

TO JUMP START YOUR CADILLAC:
1. Check the other vehicle. It must have a 12-volt battery with a negative
ground system.
NOTICE:
If the other system isn’t a 12-volt system with a negative ground,
both vehicles can be damaged.

sure the vehicles aren’t touching each other.
If they are, it could cause
a ground connection you don’t want.
You wouldn’t be able to start
your Cadillac, and the bad grounding could damage the electrical
systems.
3. Turn off the ignition on both vehicles. Turn off all lights, radio, or any
accessories that are in use on both vehicles. This will avoid sparks and
help save both batteries. And it could avoid damage to any
of the
accessories.
NOTICE:
If you leave your radio on, it could be badly damaged. The
repairs wouldn’t be covered by your warranty.
4. Open the hoods and locate the batteries.
Find the positive
(+) and negative (-) terminals on each battery.

they do, you could get a shock. The vehicles could be damaged, too.
Before you connect the cables, here are some things you should know.
Positive
(+) will go to positive (+) and negative (-) will go to negative
(-) or a metal engine part. Don’t connect (+) to (-) or you’ll get a
short that would damage the battery and maybe other parts, too.
7. Connect the red positive (+) cable to the positive (+) terminal of the

end of the negative cable doesn’t go to the dead battery. It goes to a
heavy unpainted metal part on the engine of the vehicle with the dead
battery.
Attach the cable at least
18 inches (45 cm) away from the dead
battery, but not near engine parts that move. The electrical connection
is just as good there, but the chance of sparks getting back to the
battery is much less.
11. Now start the vehicle with the good battery and run the engine for
awhile.
