GEAR EFFICIENCY INDICATOR *
System which reduces fuel con-
sumption by advising the driver to
change up on vehicles fi tted with a
manual gearbox.
Operation
The system intervenes only when
driving economically.
Depending on the driving situation
and your vehicle's equipment, the
system may advise you to skip one
or more gears. You can follow this
instruction without engaging the in-
termediate gears.
The gear recommended should not
be considered compulsory. In fact,
the confi guration of the road, the
amount of traffi c and safety remain
determining factors when choosing
the best gear. Therefore, the driver
remains responsible for deciding
whether or not to follow the advice
given by the system.
This function cannot be deactivated.
* According to engine. Example:
- You are in third gear.
- You press the accelerator pedal
moderately.
- The system may suggest that you engage a higher gear, if ap-
propriate. The information appears in the form
of an arrow on the instrument panel
display.
Depending on your vehicle's equip-
ment, this arrow may be accompa-
nied by the recommended gear.
In the case of driving which
makes particular demands
on the performance of the
engine (fi rm pressure on
the accelerator pedal, for example,
when overtaking...), the system will
not recommend a gear change.
The system never suggests:
- engaging fi rst gear,
- engaging reverse gear,
- engaging a lower gear.

Displays on the instrument panel
- The selector lever position is dis-played in the instrument panel,
on the left on the A and C multi-
function screens and on the right
on NaviDrive and MyWay multi-
function screens.
-
A back-lit position grille associated
with the selector lever shows the
position selected.

When the ignition is on,
lighting of the service
warning lamp, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and
the message "Gearbox faulty"
indicates a malfunction.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
For safety:

 Position N can only be disen-
gaged if you are pressing the
brake pedal.

 If the gearbox is in position N
but the selector lever position is
different, reposition the selector
lever on N in order to be able to
start. Moving off

 To start the engine, the selector
lever must be in position N .

 Press fi rmly on the brake pedal.

 Operate the starter.

 When the engine is running,
place the selector lever on R , A
or M as desired.

 In the instrument panel, check
the position engaged.

 Release the brake pedal and
accelerate.
If the selector lever is not in posi-
tion N , and/or if the brake pedal is not
pressed, the corresponding warning
lamp(s) are displayed and a mes-
sage informs you that at least one of
these two conditions is not met.
In this case, the engine will not start,
recommence the above procedure.
6-SPEED ELECTRONIC GEARBOX SYSTEM
The 6-speed electronic gearbox of-
fers a choice between the comfort of
fully automatic operation or the driving
pleasure of manual gear changing.
You have a choice of two driving
modes:
- automatic mode for automatic
control of the gears by the gear-
box,
- sequential mode for manual
changing of the gears by the
driver.

 automatic mode: selector lever 2
in position A .

 manual mode: selector lever 2 in
position M .
In automatic mode, instant manual
operation is possible any time you
operate one of the paddles 1 .

the selector lever to A .
Manual mode

Changing to manual mode
Manual mode activates when you
move the selector lever to M .

 Pull the " + " paddle to change up
a gear.

 Pull the " - " paddle to change
down a gear.
When the engine is running,
before accelerating to move
the vehicle, make sure that
the position engaged on the
selector grille or in the instrument
panel is either: R , A or M
Do not leave the vehicle with the
engine running in R , A or M . Operation in automatic mode

 Move the selector lever
to position A . The warn-
ing lamp A comes on in
the instrument panel to
confi rm the selection.
The gearbox then functions in auto-
matic mode, without any action on
your part.
It constantly selects the gear that is
best suited to the following condi-
tions:
- driving style,
- road profi le,
- optimum fuel consumption.
Reverse gear

Engaging reverse gear
To engage reverse gear, move the
selector lever to R .

Only attempt to select reverse gear when the vehicle is stationary.
If the vehicle is moving rapidly, if
an inadvertent attempt to engage
reverse gear is made, the warning
lamp N will fl ash and your vehicle
will go automatically into neutral. To
re-engage a gear, simply reposition
the selector lever on A , M or R .
Neutral
Changing to neutral
To change to neutral, move the se-
lector lever to N . If the vehicle is
moving, do not select this position
even momentarily.

Steering mounted paddle controls
The steering mounted paddles are
used for the six forward gears. Changing gear

 Pull the " + " paddle to change up
a gear.

 Pull the " - " paddle to change
down a gear.
By pulling either of the "
+ " or " - " pad-
dles, you can exercise temporary
control over the gearbox.
The request to change gear will be
taken into account. You will still be
in automatic mode. The warning
lamp A remains on in the instrument
panel.
This function enables you to antici-
pate certain situations such as the
approach of a bend or the need to
overtake another vehicle.
Cancellation of automatic mode
The change from position A (driv-
ing in automatic mode) to position M
(driving in manual mode) or vice
versa can be made at any time. The
warning lamp A goes off in the in-
strument panel.

Acceleration
For optimum acceleration (e.g. to
overtake another vehicle), simply
press the pedal beyond the point of
resistance at the end of its travel, by
pressing down fi rmly.
Vehicle stationary, with the
engine running
In the event of a prolonged stop with
the engine running, the gearbox
changes automatically to neutral N . Stopping the vehicle
Before stopping the engine, you can
choose:

 to leave the vehicle in neutral;
move the selector lever to posi-
tion N .

 to leave the vehicle with a gear
engaged ( R , A or M ); place the
selector in the chosen position
prior to stopping the engine. In
this case, the vehicle cannot be
moved.
In all cases, it is essential to apply
the parking brake. Check that the
parking brake warning lamp is on in
the instrument panel.
Do not use the accelerator to
hold your vehicle on a gra-
dient. Use either the brake
pedal or the parking brake.
Before doing anything in the en-
gine compartment, check that the
selector lever is in neutral N .
The paddles cannot be used to se-
lect neutral or reverse gear, or to exit
reverse gear.
- If the vehicle stops or reduces
speed (for example when ap-
proaching a stop sign), the gear-
box changes down automatically,
to fi rst gear if needed.
- In manual mode, it is not neces- sary to release the accelerator
completely during gear changes.
- A request to change gear is ac- cepted only if the engine speed
permits it.
- For safety reasons, depending on the engine speed, a change
down may be performed auto-
matically.
In situations of high engine
speeds (heavy accelera-
tion), a change up will not
occur unless the driver op-
erates the paddle.

STOP & START
The Stop & Start system puts the
engine temporarily into standby -
STOP mode - during stops in the
traffi c (red lights, traffi c jams, or
other...). The engine restarts auto-
matically - START mode - as soon
as you want to move off. The restart
takes place instantly, quickly and si-
lently.
Perfect for urban use, the Stop &
Start system reduces fuel consump-
tion and exhaust emissions as well
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
Going into engine STOP mode The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby:
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system , at speeds be-
low 4 mph (6 km/h), press the
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N . If your vehicle is fi tted with the sys-
tem, a time counter calculates the
sum of the periods in STOP mode
during a journey. It rests itself to zero
every time the ignition is switched on
with the key.
Special cases: STOP mode not
available
Never refuel with the en-
gine in STOP mode; you
must switch off the ignition
with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
maoeuvres, STOP mode is not avail-
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
STOP mode does not affect the func-
tionality of the vehicle, such as for
example, braking, power steering...
STOP mode is not invoked
when:
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas- tened,
- the vehicle has not exceeded 6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (battery charge, engine temperature,
braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.
In this case, the "ECO" warning
lamp fl ashes for a few seconds then
goes off.

This operation is perfectly normal.

In the event of a malfunction with
the system, the "ECO OFF" switch
warning lamp fl ashes then comes
on continuously.
Have it checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
In the event of a fault in STOP mode,
the vehicle may stall. It is then nec-
essary to switch off the ignition and
start the engine again using the key. Maintenance
Operating fault
Before doing anything un-
der the bonnet, deactivate
the Stop & Start system to
avoid any risk of injury resulting
from automatic operation of START
mode.
This system requires a battery with
a special specifi cation and technology
(reference numbers available from
CITROËN dealers).
Fitting a battery not listed by
CITROËN introduces the risk of
malfunction of the system.
The Stop & Start system makes use of advanced technology.
Specialist knowledge is needed
for any work on the system, which can
only be assured by CITROËN dealers.

AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Automatic gearbox which offers a
choice between the ease of fully
automatic operation or the driving
pleasure of manual gear changing.
There is a choice of two driving
modes:
- automatic operation for elec-
tronic control of the gears by the
gearbox,
- manual operation for sequen-
tial changing of the gears by the
driver.

 automatic mode: selector 1 in
position D ,

 sequential mode: selector 1 in
position M . The position of the selector lever is
displayed on the instrument panel,
on the left on the
A and C multifunc-
tion screens and on the right on the
MyWay and NaviDrive multifunction
screens.
A grille associated with the selector
lever also allows you to see the se-
lected position. Position
P can only be dis-
engaged if pressing the
brake pedal.
On opening a door, there is an au-
dible signal if the selector lever is
not in position P .
In all circumstances, ensure that
the selector lever is in position P
before leaving your vehicle.
If the gearbox is in position P but
the position of the selector lever is
different, reposition the selector le-
ver on P so that you can start the
vehicle.
Never press the brake and ac-
celerator pedals simultaneously.
Braking and acceleration should
be done only with the right foot.
Pressing both pedals simultane-
ously introduces a risk of damage
to the gearbox.

the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary. In this position, the front
wheels are locked. Make sure
that the selector lever is correctly
positioned. Reverse gear
Neutral
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Never select position
N if
the vehicle is moving.
Never select positions P or

R unless the vehicle is sta-
tionary.
If, while the vehicle is moving, po-
sition N is engaged inadvertently,
allow the engine to idle before en-
gaging position D or M .
