Emergency braking
In the event of a failure of the main service
brake  or   in   an   exceptional   situation   (e.g.   driver
t

aken   ill,   under   instruction,   etc.)   a   continuous
p

ull   on   the   control   lever   will   brake   the   vehicle.
B

raking   takes   place   while   the   control   lever   is
b

eing   pulled.   It   is   interrupted   if   the   control   lever
i

s
 r
eleased.
The ABS and DSC systems provide stability of
the
  vehicle   during   emergency   braking.
If
  the   emergency   braking   malfunctions,   the
m

essage   "Parking   brake   control   faulty"   will   be
d

isplayed.
If a failure of the ABS and DSC systems occurs,
signalled
by   the   illumination   of   one   or   both
 w

arning   lamps   in   the   instrument   panel,   then
 s

tability   of   the   vehicle   is   no   longer   guaranteed.
In this event, stability must be assured by the
driver
  by   repeating   alternate   "pull-release"
 a

ctions on the control lever until the vehicle is
immobilised. The
  emergency   braking   should   only   be
u

sed   in   an   exceptional   situation.
Repeat this procedure to reactivate automatic
operation.
Reactivation of automatic operation is
confirmed by the indicator lamp in the
instrument

panel

going

off.
Deactivating automatic operation
In some situations, such as very cold weather
or   towing   (caravan,   recovery),   it   may   be
n

ecessary to deactivate automatic operation of
the
  system.

Before switching off the engine, you can change   to   position   P or N   to   be   in   neutral.
I

n   either   case,   apply   the   parking   brake   to
i

mmobilise   the   vehicle,   unless   it   is   programmed
i

n   automatic   mode.
If the lever is not in position P ,
  on   opening   the
d

river's   door   or   approximately   45   seconds   after
s

witching   off   the   ignition   there   is   an   audible
s

a

udible   signal   stops   and   the   message
d

isappears.
Operating fault
Whenever parking, you must apply the parking brake   to   immobilise   the   vehicle,   if   automatic
o

peration   has   been   deactivated.
Parking the vehicle
In all circumstances, ensure that the
gear  selector   is   in   position   P before
leaving
your   vehicle. In the event of a fault with the
gearbox,
  the   service   warning   lamp
c

omes on in the instrument panel,
accompanied   by   a   message   and   an
a

udible
 s
ignal.
In   this   case   the   gearbox   goes   into   back-up
m

ode   and   stays   in   3
rd gear. You may then feel a n
oticeable

jolt

when

going   from   P to R and from
N to R .

This

jolt

does
not   present   any   risk   to   the
g

earbox.
Do

not

exceed

60

mph   (100   km/h)   while   also

The change from one level of alert to   the   next   takes   place   if   the   driving
c

onditions   do   not   change   (speed
u

nchanged,   no   change   of   lane...)
Severe weather conditions (very heavy
rain, accumulation of snow in front
of the radar) may inter fere with the
operation
  of   the   system,   resulting   in
t

he   display   of   the   message   "SYSTEM
I

NACTIVE:   Reduced   visibility".   The
s

ystem remains unavailable until the
message
 d

isappears.
If
the   speed   of   your   vehicle   is   too   high
w

hen   approaching   another   vehicle,   the
f

irst   level   of   alert   may   not   be   displayed:
t

he level 2 alert may be displayed
di r e c t l y.
On the other hand, the level 1 alert
is
  never   displayed   with   the   triggering
t

hreshold   3   (close).
Alerts
According to the collision risk detected by the system and the alert threshold chosen, three
levels
  of   alert   can   be   triggered.
Level 1 :
  visual   alert   only   (orange)
i

ndicating   that   the   vehicle   in   front   is
v

ery   close.   The   message   "Vehicle
close "
  is   displayed.
Level 2 :
  visual   (red)   and   audible
a

lerts   indicating   that   a   collision   is
i

mminent.   The   message   "Brake! " is
displayed.
This level of alert is based on the inter-vehicle
time
between   your   vehicle   and   the   one   in   front.
This level of alert is based on a time before
collision.
It   takes   account   of   the   vehicle
d

ynamics, the speed of your vehicle and
the
speed   of   the   vehicle   in   front,   the   driving
c

onditions, the situation with your vehicle
(cornering,
pedals   pressed,   etc.)   to   trigger   the
a

lert   at   the   right   moment.
Operating fault
In the event of a fault, you are alerted
by  the   display   of   the   Service   warning
l

amp,   accompanied   by   a   message.
Consult a CITROËN dealer or a
qualified
 w

orkshop.
The operation of the radar, located in
the front bumper, may be disturbed by
accumulations
  of   grime   (dust,   mud...)
o

r in certain weather conditions (snow,
ice...).
The
  message   "SYSTEM   INACTIVE:
V

isibility   reduced"   is   displayed   to   signal
t

hat the system has been put into
st a n dby.
Clean
  the   front   bumper   regularly.

Checks
12 V battery
The battery does not require any
maintenance.
However,  check   that   the   terminals
a

re   clean   and   correctly   tightened,
p

articularly   in   summer   and   winter.Refer
  to   the   manufacturer's  s
ervice schedule for details of the
replacement intervals for these
components.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Replace the oil filter each time the

Refer
  to   the   manufacturer's
s

ervice schedule for details of
the replacement interval for this
component.
Oil filterThe presence of this label, in particular
with the Stop & Start system, indicates
the use of a specific 12 V lead-acid
battery
  with   special   technology   and
 s

pecification.
 T

he involvement of a CITROËN dealer
or
a   qualified   workshop   is   essential   when
 r

eplacing   or   disconnecting   the   battery.
Unless
other wise   indicated,   check   these   components   in   accordance   with   the   manufacturer's   service   schedule   and   according   to   your   engine.
Other wise,   have   them   checked   by   a   CITROËN   dealer   or   a   qualified   workshop.
Depending   on   the   environment   (e.g.   dusty
a

tmosphere) and the use of the vehicle
(e.g. city   driving),   replace them twice as often
if necessary .
A   clogged   passenger   compartment   filter   may
h

ave an adverse effect on the per formance
of   the   air   conditioning   system   and   generate  u
ndesirable o dours.
Particle filter (Diesel)
The start of saturation of the particle
filter
  is   indicated   by   the   fixed
i

llumination   of   this   warning   lamp
a

ccompanied   by   a   warning   message.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit,
regenerate
the   filter   by   driving   at   a
s

peed   of   at   least   40   mph   (60   km/h)   until
t

he

warning   lamp   goes   off.
If

the   warning   lamp   stays   on,   this
i

ndicates   a   low   additive   level.
For more information on Checking
levels and the Diesel additive level in
particular,
  refer   to   the   corresponding
s

ection.
On a new vehicle, the first particle
filter
  regeneration   operations   may   be
a

ccompanied   by   a   "burning"   smell,
w

hich   is   per fectly   normal.
Following
  prolonged   operation   of   the
v

ehicle at very low speed or at idle,
you
  may,   in   exceptional   circumstances,
n

otice the emission of water vapour at
the

exhaust   on   acceleration.   This   does
n

ot affect the behaviour of the vehicle
or

the   environment.
When
