Checking levels

Ta k e c a r e w h e n w o r k i ng under the bonnet, as certain areas of the enginemay be extremely hot (risk of burns) and the cooling fan could star t at any time(even with the ignition off).
Oil level
The check is carried out either when
the ignition is switched on using the oil level indicator in the instrument panel, or using the dipstick.
It is normal to top up the oil level between two ser vices (or oil changes). CITROËN recommends that you checkthe level, and top up if necessary, every 3 000 miles (5 000 kms). After topping up the oil, the check when
switching on the ignition with the oillevel indicator in the instrument panelis not valid during the 30 minutes after topping up. If a level drops significantly, have the corresponding system checked by a CITRO
ËN dealer or a qualified workshop. Check all of these levels regularly, in line with the ser vicing booklet and the requirements of the warranties. Top them up if necessary, unless other wise indicated.

Before doing anything under the bonnet, switch off the ignition (Readylamp off) to avoid any risk of injury resulting from automatic operation of the engine.

Engine oil change

Refer to the servicing and warranty booklet for
details of the interval for this operation.
In order to maintain the reliabilit
y of the engine
and emission control system, the use of
additives in the engine oil is prohibited.

Oil specifi cation

The oil must be the correct grade for your engine and conform to the manufacturer's
recommendations. It will onl
y be correct if the vehicle is on level
ground and the engine has been off for more
than 30 minutes.

Before doing anything under the bonnet, switch off the ignition (Ready
lamp off) to avoid any risk of injury resulting fromautomatic operation of the engine. Th
e brake fluid level should be close
to the "MA X" mark. If it is not, check
the brake pad wear.
Brake fluid level

Changing the fl uid

Refer to the servicing and warranty booklet for
details of the interval for this operation.

Fluid specifi cation

The brake fluid must conform to themanufacturer's recommendations and meet the
DOT3 or DOT4 standard.
The power steerin
g fluid level should be close to the "MA X" mark. With
the engine cold, unscrew the cap to check the level.
Power steering fluid levelCoolant level

The coolant level should be closeto the "MAX" mark but should never exceed it.
When the en
gine is warm, the temperature of
the coolant is regulated by the fan. This can
operate with the ignition off.
On vehicles which are fitted with a particle
emission filter, the fan may operate after
the vehicle has been switched off, even if
the en
gine is cold.
In addition, as the cooling system ispressurised, wait at least one hour after
switching off the engine before carryingout any work. To avoid any risk of scalding, unscrewthe cap by two turns to allow the pressure to drop. When the pressure has dropped, remove the cap and top upthe level.

Changing the coolant
The coolant does not have to be changed.

Fluid specifi cation

The coolant must conform to the
manufacturer's recommendations.

Screenwash / headlamp
wash level
To check the level or top up the fluid on vehicle
fitted with headlamp washers, immobilise the
vehicle and switch of the en
gine. )Before opening the bonnet, ensure that the
engine has completely stopped. )Open the screenwash reser voir filler cap.

To p p i ng up

This additive must be topped up by a CITROËN
dealer or a qualified workshop without delay.

Diesel additive level
(Diesel engine with particle
emission filter)
A low additive level is
indicated by illumination of
the ser vice warning lamp,
accompanied by an audible warning and amessage in the instrument panel screen.

Specifi cation of the fl uid
To ensure optimum cleaning and to avoid freezing, the fluid should never be topped up or
replaced by plain water.

)
Take and pinch the level gauge to block itsbreather.)
Remove the gauge completely from
the reservoir to read the level in thetransparent section.) To p u p i f n e c e s s a ry. )
Refit the filler cap to the reser voir and close the bonnet.

Checks
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil or fluids with the skin. Most of these fluids are harmful to
health or indeed very corrosive.

Do not discard used oil or fluids into sewers or onto the ground.
Take used oil to a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop (France) or to anauthorised waste disposal site.

Checks
Unless otherwise indicated, check these
components in accordance with the servicingand warranty booklet and according to your
engine.
Other wise, have them checked by a CITROËN
dealer or a qualified workshop.
Before doing anything under the bonnet, switch off the ignition ( Readylamp off)to avoid any risk of injury resulting from automatic operation of the engine. The presence o
f this label, in particular with
the Stop & Start system, indicates the use of
a specific 12 V lead-acid battery with special
technology and specification. The involvement of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop is essential when replacing or disconnecting the
battery.
12 V battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.
However, check that the terminals are clean
and correctly tightened, par ticularly in summer and winter.
When carrying out work on the battery, refer
to the "12 V battery" section for details of the precautions to be taken before disconnecting
the battery and following its reconnection.

Particle emission filter (Diesel)
The start of saturation of theparticle filter is indicated bythe temporary illumination of
this warning lamp accompanied by a message
in the multi-function screen.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit, regenerate the filter by driving at aspeed of at least 40 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp goes off.
If the warning lamp stays on, this indicates a low additive level.

On a new vehicle, the first par ticlefilter regeneration operations may be accompanied by a "burning" smell, which is perfectly normal.
Following prolonged operation of the vehicle at very low speed or at idle, you may, in exceptional circumstances, notice the emission of water vapour at the exhaust on acceleration. This does not affect the behaviour of the vehicle or the environment.
The 100% electric mode is not available during regeneration of the par ticle emissions filter.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Oil filter

Replace the oil filter each time the engine oil is changed.
Refer to the ser vicing and warrantybooklet for details of the replacement
interval for this component.
Re
fer to the ser vicing and warrantybooklet for details of the replacement
inter vals for these components.
Dependin
g on the environment (e.g. dustyatmosphere) and the use of the vehicle (e.g. city driving), replace them twice as often if necessary. y A clogged passenger compartment filter mayhave an adverse effect on the per formance
of the air conditioning system and generate undesirable odours.

6-speed electronic gearbox
The gearbox does not require anymaintenance (no oil change).
Refer to the ser vicing and warranty
booklet for details of the checking interval for this component.
Brake wear depends on the st
yle
of driving, par ticularly in the case
of vehicles used in town, over shor tdistances. It may be necessary tohave the condition of the brakes checked, evenbetween vehicle services.
Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a drop in
the brake fluid level indicates that the brakepads are worn.

Brake pads

For information on checking brake
disc wear, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.
Brake disc wear
Electric parking brake
This system does not require anyroutine servicing. However, in the
event of a problem, have the system checked by a CITROËN dealer or aqualified workshop.

Only use products recommended by CITROËN or products of equivalent quality and specification. In order to optimise the operationof units as impor tant as the braking system, CITROËN selects and offers
very specific products.
After washing the vehicle, dampness,or in wintry conditions, ice, can formon the brake discs and pads: braking efficiency may be reduced. Make lightbrake applications to dry and defrostthe brakes.
For more in
formation, refer to the "Electric parking brake - Operating faults" section.
