GENERAL DESCRIPTION
AND SYSTEM OPERATION
WARNING LAMP OPERATION
This brake system uses a BRAKE warning lamp located
in the instrument panel cluster. When the ignition switch
is in the START position, the BRAKE warning lamp should
illuminate. It should go off when the ignition switch returns
to the ON position. The following conditions will activate the BRAKE warning
lamp:
S The lamp should be on whenever the parking brake
is applied and the ignition switch is in the ON posi-
tion.
S A low fluid level in the master cylinder will turn the
BRAKE lamp on.

7. Inspect and replace any parts of doubtful strength
or quality. This can be shown by discoloration from
heat or stress.
8. Using a vernier caliper, adjust the shoe assembly to
167.6 to 167.8 mm (6.60 to 6.61 inches) by turning
the adjuster nut clockwise to increase the diameter.
Measure the shoe assembly diameter as closely as
possible to the center of the lining material.
9. Inspect and install the rotors and calipers. Refer to
Section 4E1, Rear Disc Brakes.
10. Install the parking brake cable to the backplate le-
ver on each side of the vehicle.
11. In the vehicle cabin, pull on the parking brake han-
dle. Stop after hearing two clicks.
12. Turn the rear wheel by hand until the wheel begins
to drag.
13. Release the parking brake.
14. Turn the rear wheel by hand to check the drag. Re-
adjust the cable, if necessary.
15. Repeat the process for the other rear wheel.
16. Lower the vehicle.
PARKING BRAKE LEVER
Removal Procedure
1. Release the parking brake.
2. Remove the parking brake/gearshift console hood.
Refer to Section 9G, Interior Trim.
3. Measure the thread length from the end of the pull
rod to the hex nut.
4. Remove the hex nut.
5. Remove the parking brake warning lamp switch.
Notice : The parking brake switch should be replaced if
the BRAKE warning light in the instrument panel cluster
did not glow when the parking brake was applied with the
ignition switch ON.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
AND SYSTEM OPERATION
PARKING BRAKE
This braking system uses a BRAKE warning light located
in the instrument panel cluster. When the ignition switch
is in the START position, the BRAKE warning light shouldglow and go OFF when the the ignition switch returns to
the RUN position. Whenever the parking brake is applied
and the ignition switch is ON, the BRAKE warning light
should glow.
When the brake is firmly applied, the parking brake should
hold the vehicle with ample pedal travel remaining. Check
for frayed cables, rust, etc. or any condition that many in-
hibit present (or future) free movement of the parking
brake lever assembly.

SEAT BELTS 8A – 9
DAEWOO V–121 BL4
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
AND SYSTEM OPERATION
DRIVER SEAT BELT WARNING
The driver’s safety belt incorporates a safety belt reminder
light in the instrument cluster to remind the driver if the
safety belt is not fastened when the the ignition is turned
ON.
THREE–POINT ELR FRONT SEAT
BELT WITH PRETENSIONER
The three–point emergency locking retractor (ELR) front
seat belt pretensioner is always unlocked, allowing the
passenger freedom of movement, except in emergencies
such as rapid deceleration, rapid acceleration, or hard cor-
nering maneuvers.
The front seat belt pretensioner contains an ignitor charge
and a gas generator to inflate the pretensioner. The pre-
tensioner also includes wiring and a connector. The con-
nector of the pretensioner contains a shorting bar which
short–circuits the pretensioner high circuit to the preten-
sioner low circuit when the connector is disconnected. The
shorting bar prevents current from traveling through the
pretensioner during servicing. The shorting bar disen-
gaged when the connecotr is connected.
The pretensioner is an electronically controlled pyrotech-
nical reactor which reduce seat belt slack when it is actived
with air bags.
The front seat belt pretensioner must be replaced after an
accident that cause its activation.
THREE–POINT CLR (ELR) REAR
OUTBOARD SEAT BELT
The rear outboard seating positions use the three–point
child locking retractor (CLR) or emergency locking retrac-
tor (ELR) seat belts. The three–point CLR (ELR) seat beltis always unlocked, allowing the passenger freedom of
movement, except in emergencies such as rapid decel-
eration, rapid acceleration, or hard cornering maneuvers.
OPERATIONAL AND FUNCTIONAL
CHECKS
CAUTION :
S Keep sharp objects and potentially damaging
objects away from the seat belts.
S Avoid bending or damaging any portion of the
buckle or the latch plate.
S Do not bleach or dye the belt webbing. Use
only mild soap and water in order to clean the
belts.
S When installing the seat belt anchor bolts and
the screws, start the bolts and the screws by
hand in order to prevent cross–threading.
S Do not attempt any repairs on the retractor
mechanisms or the covers. Replace any defec-
tive assemblies with new assemblies.
S Replace any belts that are cut or damaged in
any way.
1. Inspect all seat belt anchor bolts and the screws in
order to verify that they are secure.
2. Inspect the seat belt buckle. The buckle must lock
and unlock easily.
3. After inserting the latch into the buckle, tug sharply
on the belt. The buckle must remain locked.
4. Fully extend the shoulder belt portion to make sure
that there is no twisting or tears in the belt.
5. Let the shoulder belt retract fully. The belt should
retract easily.
CHILD SEAT TETHER ANCHOR
For notch back vehicle, there are three child seat tether
anchors located on the read deck lid sill plate. For hatch
back vehicle, there are three child seat fether anchors on
the lower rear tail member in the luggage compartment.
And there are 4 lower child anchors under the rear seat.
4 circular discs on the rear seat indicate the location of the
lower child anchors.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINTS (SIR) 8B – 49
DAEWOO V–121 BL4
DTC 25 Airbag Warning Lamp Failure
CAUTION : The sensing and diagnostic module(SDM)
can maintain sufficient voltage to deploy the airbags
and pretensioners for 1 minute after the ignition is
OFF and the fuse has been removed. If the airbags
and pretensioners are not disconnected, do not be-
gin service until one minute has passed after discon-
necting power to SDM. Otherwise, injury could result.
CAUTION : During service procedure, be very careful
when handling the SDM. Never strike or jar the SDM.Never power the supplemental inflatable re-
straints(SIR) when the SDM is not rigidly attached to
the vehicle. All SDM mounting bolts must be carefully
tightened , and the arrow on the SDM must be point
toward the front of the vehicle to ensure proper op-
eration of the SIR. The SDM could be activated if it is
powered when it is not rigidly attached to the vehicle,
resulting in unexpected deployment and possible in-
jury.
