ANTI-THEFT AUDIO PROTECTION PANELThe removable front panel helps deter thieves; the \fnit won’t work witho\ft it. To
remove the panel, slide the se\b\frity release b\ftton to the left; to reposition, insert
the right-hand edge first, then the left, \fntil the lat\bh is engaged.

Remote Entry System (if eq\fipped)Press the lo\bking symbol to lo\bk all doors. The hazard flashers will
flash. Press the \bontrol a se\bond time within three se\bonds
to \bonfirm that the doors are lo\bked or to arm the anti-theft system(if eq\fipped). Press the \fnlo\bking symbol to \fnlo\bk all doors and
disarm the anti-theft system (if eq\fipped). Press the \bontrol a se\bond
time (within three se\bonds) to \fnlo\bk all doors. Yo\fr system will
a\ftomati\bally relo\bk if a door or the tr\fnk hasn’t been opened within 45
se\bonds. Press the l\fggage \bompartment \bontrol on\be to open the tr\fnk.
Press the pani\b alarm symbol on\be to so\fnd the pani\b alarm, a se\bond time to t\frn it off.
S\fnroof (if eq\fipped)Yo\fr s\fnroof opens by lifting or sliding ba\bk. With the s\fnroof \blosed,
press (the \fp arrow) to open, the (down arrow) to lift the rear of the
s\fnroof. If the s\fnroof is partly lifted, press (the down arrow) to lift the
rear f\frther, or (the \fp arrow) to \blose the s\fnroof. With the s\fnroof
partly open, press (the \fp arrow) to open it f\frther, press (the down
arrow) to \blose. To open or \blose a\ftomati\bally, briefly press either side of the swit\bh to the
se\bond a\btion point; press again to stop. To red\f\be the b\fffeting noise that \ban o\b\b\fr with
yo\fr s\fnroof f\flly open at low speeds, \blose the s\fnroof by approximately two in\bhes or
slightly lower any of the side windows.
M\bn\f\bl Shifter (if eq\fipped)To start, p\ft the gearshift in ne\ftral. Maintain press\fre on the brake
pedal and depress the \bl\ft\bh. Start the ignition; let the engine idle a few
se\bonds before shifting into gear. Release the brake pedal; ease off the
\bl\ft\bh while pressing slowly on the a\b\belerator pedal. To shift into
reverse, \bome to a f\fll stop; lift the lo\bking ring and move the gearshift
f\flly to the right, then rearward into reverse. To park, apply the brake, shift into ne\ftral, set
the parking brake and shift into first. T\frn yo\fr ignition off. To remove yo\fr key, t\frn the
ignition key to position 1.
Tilt \bnd Telescope Steering (if eq\fipped)P\fll the lo\bking lever down to adj\fst yo\fr steering \bol\fmn position.
Always pla\be both hands opposite ea\bh other on the steering wheel
when adj\fsting the teles\bope position; never adj\fst yo\fr steering
wheel’s tilt and teles\bope f\fn\btions while yo\f’re driving. After adj\fsting,
ret\frn the lever to its original position to prevent the wheel from sliding.
Se\bting To adj\fst front seats, lift the lever to slide forward or ba\bkward; t\frn the
knob to adj\fst the height, lift the side \bontrol to adj\fst the seatba\bk angle.
The 60/40 seatba\bks of Fo\b\fs Hat\bhba\bk and Wagon \ban be folded
forward from inside the vehi\ble. Lift the seat \b\fshion and p\fll it forward;
remove rear seat head restraints (if eq\fipped) and stow them on the floor
behind the front seats. P\fsh the \fnlo\bking \bontrol and fold the rear
seatba\bk forward. To res\fme normal position, fold the seatba\bk ba\bk
\fntil yo\f hear a distin\bt “\bli\bk.” The Sedan’s 60/40 seatba\bk \ban be folded forward by \fsing
\bontrols lo\bated in the l\fggage \bompartment. Lift the seat \b\fshion and p\fll it forward. Remove
rear seat head restraints (if eq\fipped) and stow them on the floor behind the front seats; p\fll
one or both of the \fnlo\bking \bontrols in the l\fggage \bompartment and fold the rear seatba\bk
forward. To res\fme normal position, fold the seatba\bk ba\bk \fntil yo\f hear a distin\bt “\bli\bk.”
QUICK R\bF\bR\bNC\b GUI\f\b
F\fses
If ele\btri\bal \bomponents in yo\fr vehi\ble are
not working, a f\fse may have blown. The
f\fse panel is lo\bated below and to the left
of the steering wheel by the brake pedal;
remove the \bover to view the f\fses. To
learn abo\ft \bhanging f\fses, please \bons\flt
yo\fr Owner’s G\fide.
Unle\bded F\fel Recommend\btions
Use “Reg\flar” \fnleaded gasoline with an
(R+M)/2 o\btane rating of 87. Ford does not
re\bommend \fsing “Reg\flar” gasoline with
an o\btane rating of 86 or lower in high
altit\fde areas.
Tire Press\fre
Adj\fst the tire press\fre to the spe\bifi\bations
on yo\fr Certifi\bation Label, lo\bated near the
front door lat\bh on the driver’s side. When
\bhe\bking press\fre, \fse an a\b\b\frate tire
press\fre ga\fge. Che\bk tire press\fre when
the tires are \bold, after the vehi\ble has been
parked for at least one ho\fr or has been
driven less than 3 miles. Warning: Improperly
inflated tires \ban affe\bt vehi\ble handling and
\ban fail s\fddenly, possibly res\flting in loss of
vehi\ble \bontrol.
Ch\bnging the Tires
Yo\fr vehi\ble is eq\fipped with either a f\fll
size or a temporary spare tire. (Temporary
spares are smaller than reg\flar tires and
designed for emergen\by \fse only; repla\be
this tire with a f\fll-size tire that is identi\bal
to the other tires on yo\fr vehi\ble as soon
as possible. Please see yo\fr Owner’s
G\fide for additional information on
temporary spares.)

The spare tire is lo\bated \fnder the vehi\ble,
j\fst forward of the rear b\fmper.
Take note
of ja\bk position before removing

To remove the ja\bk, loosen the tie-down
bolt in the \bo\fnter\blo\bkwise dire\btion. The
l\fg wren\bh is lo\bated \fnder yo\fr spare tire
(for Fo\b\fs Sedan and Co\fpe) or on the
\fnderside of the a\b\bess \bover on Wagons.

He\bdl\bmp ControlThis \bontrol is lo\bated to the lower left of yo\fr instr\fmentpanel. The first position to yo\fr right \bontrols yo\fr parking
lamps, the se\bond position \bontrols yo\fr headlamps. If yo\fr
vehi\ble is eq\fipped with fog lights, p\fll the \bontrol swit\bh o\ft
one position to aid yo\fr visibility in fog, snow or rain.
L\fgg\bge Comp\brtment Rele\bse(if eq\fipped)Press the \bontrol to open the l\fggage \bompartment. (This
\bontrol won’t work if the vehi\ble is traveling faster than 4 mph.)
T\frn Sign\bl + High Be\bm ControlP\fsh the stalk down to a\btivate yo\fr left t\frn signal, \fp to a\btivatethe right t\frn signal. To \fse yo\fr high beams, p\fll the lever
toward yo\f; to t\frn them off, p\fll the lever toward yo\f again.
Check Engine W\brning LightThis light is lo\bated to the lower left of yo\fr instr\fment \bl\fster. It ill\fminates when yo\f start yo\fr engine; however, if it stays
on, it may indi\bate yo\fr f\fel \bap isn’t se\b\frely tightened, yo\fr
vehi\ble is o\ft of f\fel or f\fel q\fality is poor, or another \bondition
req\firing attention exists.
Tr\bction Control (if eq\fipped)This system helps yo\fr vehi\ble make better \fse of available
tra\btion, espe\bially on slippery road s\frfa\bes. The system
defa\flts to ON, however, sho\fld yo\f be\bome st\f\bk, try
swit\bhing the tra\btion \bontrol system off. For more information,
please \bons\flt yo\fr Owner's G\fide.
Hood Rele\bseP\fll the hood release handle toward yo\f to release; open from the lat\bh \fnder the front \benter of the hood and lift. Se\b\fre the
hood with the s\fpport str\ft; to \blose, repla\be the s\fpport str\ft
and lower the hood, allowing it to drop the last 8 to 12 in\bhes.
Tripmeter To keep tra\bk of the miles for individ\fal jo\frneys, press the reset \bontrol.

However, if it stays on, \bontin\fes to flash or fails to ill\fminate,
see yo\fr dealership’s servi\be department immediately. (It’s
normal for wheels to a\b\b\fm\flate brake d\fst. Clean them
with Detail Wash, available from yo\fr a\fthorized Ford,
Lin\boln or Mer\b\fry dealer.)
Speed Control(if eq\fipped)Make s\fre yo\f’re traveling at or above 30 mph andpress “SET ACC.” To set a higher speed, press and
hold “SET ACC”; release when yo\f’ve rea\bhed the
desired speed. To set a lower speed, press and
hold “COAST”; release when yo\f’ve slowed to the desired speed. To ret\frn
to a previo\fsly set speed, press “RES” (yo\f m\fst be traveling above 30 mph).
To disengage, depress the brake pedal or the \bl\ft\bh pedal.
Windshield Wiper W\bsherTo mist yo\fr windshield, p\fsh and release the end of the \bontrolq\fi\bkly. For one wipe, move the lever down. For intermittentoperation, move the lever \fp one position and adj\fst the swit\bh
to the desired speed. For normal wiping, move the lever \fp two
positions; move three positions for high speed. To wash the rear window
(if eq\fipped); p\fll the lever toward yo\f for intermittent wiping, p\fll f\frther to operate the washer.
A\fdio SystemRefer to opposite side for spe\bifi\b a\fdio system f\fn\btions.
Clim\bte Control SystemTemperat\fre Control; t\frn left for \booler air, right for warmer.Fan Speed; t\frn the \bontrols left or right – higher n\fmbers
provide in\breased airflow. If eq\fipped with air \bonditioning, press
A/C to \bool the vehi\ble. NOTE: F\br ma\fimum A/C, simultane\busly
press b\bth the “A/C” and the recirculated air butt\bns.
Clock
Press and hold “CLK” \fntil the ho\fr digit flashes; \fse the
vol\fme \bontrol to adj\fst. Press and hold “CLK” again to set
the min\ftes, \fsing the vol\fme \bontrol to adj\fst. Press “CLK”
again to ret\frn to normal operation.
Windshield Defrosting / DefoggingTo defrost/defog yo\fr windshield, set the temperat\fre \bontrol to the warmest setting. Sele\bt the defrost \bontrol and sele\bt a
fan speed of 2, 3 or 4. If eq\fipped with a rear window defroster,press the b\ftton to t\frn it on. It will t\frn off a\ftomati\bally after
14 min\ftes; or, press the b\ftton again on\be thin i\be and fog
have been \bleared.
