High Voltage Battery The High Voltage battery gradually discharges even if the vehicle is not in use. As a
result, if your vehicle is parked for an ex tended period of time, the battery level may
get low. Keeping your vehicle’s battery le vel low can shorten th e battery life. To
maintain the battery while th e vehicle is not in use, re charge the battery at least
once every three months.
The High Voltage battery life can also be affected by ambient temperature. In
particular, when it is cold outside, the ve hicle’s driving range on electric power can
be reduced, and a longer battery charging time is required. In addition, parking in
extremely hot or cold environments can accelerate battery drain.
To help extend the lifespan of the battery , it is recommended that you fully charge
the battery each time prior to driving.
Store the vehicle in a garage to insure that the temperature of the High Voltage
battery does not drop too low.
■ Battery Warming System
Designed to prevent the temperature of the battery from dropping when outside
temperatures drop, thereby maintainin g starting and running efficiency.
If the vehicle is plugged in when outside temperatures are low, the battery warming
system will use the power from the ch arging equipment to maintain the
temperature of the battery until the next time the vehicle is driven. 1 High Voltage Battery
The High Voltage battery dr ains over time, and under
some conditions, drains fast er. When the battery life
is shortened, this cha nges the vehicle’s driving
distance.
Be careful not to let the High Voltage battery drain
too much. If the battery level becomes close to zero,
it will make it impossible to start the engine.
U.S. models
1 Battery Warming System
If the vehicle is left unplug ged in cold temperatures,
the temperature of the ba ttery will drop, possibly
resulting in a loss of running efficiency.
If left for an extended period of time in extremely
cold temperatures, the vehicle may not start. We
recommend that you plug in your vehicle when you
are parking or storing your vehicle in cold

Driving Using a Timer You can set the timer for the High Volt age battery charge using the driver
information interface’s customization feature.
The vehicle automatically begins charging at the scheduled time when the charging
connector is connected to the vehicle.
1. Press the (display/information) button
and press or until Vehicle Settings
appears on the display, then press the
ENTER button.
2. Select Charge Timer Setup , then press the

When the battery warming system is activated, it may
not sufficiently charge within the charging period
that you have set. Canadian models

Timer: Select ON or OFF .
Mode: When Timer is ON , select the charging
mode, Full or Time .
Full: Charging will continue unt il the battery is fully
charged.
Time: The battery will be ch arged between the time
you have designated to start and end.
Start: Set the time when to start the High Voltage
battery charge.
End: Set the time when to end the High Voltage
battery charging. You cannot set this when the Full

emissions is dependent on several
factors, including driving conditions, load weight, idling time, driving habits, and
vehicle condition. Depending on these and other factors, you may not achieve the
rated fuel economy of this vehicle.
You can optimize your fuel economy with proper maintenance of your vehicle.
Always maintain your vehicle in accordance with the messages displayed on the
driver information interface.

• Do not load the vehicl e with excess cargo.
• Keep your vehicle clean. A buildup of snow or mud on your vehicle's underside

Maintenance Before Performing Maintenance Inspection and Maintenance For your safety, perform all listed inspecti ons and maintenance to keep your vehicle
in good condition. If you become aware of any abnormality (noise, smell, insufficient
brake fluid, oil residue on the ground, etc .), have your vehicle inspected by an
authorized Honda Clar ity Plug-In Hybrid dealer. (Note, however, that service at an
authorized Honda Clar ity Plug-In Hybrid dealer is not mandatory to keep your
warranties in effect.)

Perform inspections before long distance trips, when washing th e vehicle, or when
refueling.

done by any automotive repair establishment or
individuals using parts that are “certified” to
EPA standards.
According to state and fede ral regulations, failure to

warranties. However, all ma intenance services should
be performed in accordan ce with the intervals
indicated by the driver information interface.

However, we cannot warn you of every conceivable hazard that can arise in
performing maintenance. Only you can decide whether you should perform a given
task.
• To reduce the possibility of fire or explos ion, keep cigarettes, sparks, and flames
away from the 12-volt battery, all High Volt age system, and all fuel related parts.
• Never leave rags, towels, or other flammable objects under the hood.
u Heat from the engine and exhaust can ignite them, causing a fire.
• To clean parts, use a co mmercially available degreaser or parts cleaner, not
gasoline.
• Wear eye protection and pr otective clothing when working with the 12-volt
battery or compressed air.
• Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, which is poisonous and can kill you.

u Make sure your vehicle is parked on leve l ground, the parking brake is set, and
the power system is turned off.
• Be aware that hot parts can burn you.
u Make sure to let the power system incl uding the engine and exhaust system
cool thoroughly before touching vehicle parts.
• Be aware that moving parts can injure you.
u Do not activate the power system unle ss instructed, and keep your hands and
limbs away from moving parts. When th e power mode is on, the engine can
automatically start, or the radiator fan may start operating without the engine
running.

servicing your vehicle. Honda genuine parts are manufactured according to the

If the vehicle has maintenance items du e within 30 days, you will see the
Maintenance Minder messages appear on the driver information interface every
time you set the power mode to ON. The messages notify you wh en to bring your
vehicle to an authorized Honda Clarit y Plug-In Hybrid dealer for indicated
maintenance services.
To Use Maintenance Minder TM
1. Set the power mode to ON.
2. Press the (display/ information) button.
3. Press the / button to select the icon, and press the ENTER button.
