DESCRIPTION
Revision: November 20092006 QX56
DESCRIPTIONPFP:00000
OutlineEKS00BLG
The Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system automatically maintains a selected distance from the vehicle
ahead according to that vehicle's speed, or at the set speed, if the road ahead is clear.
The ICC function has two cruise control modes and brake assist (with preview function). The ICC system may
AUTO-CANCEL for various reasons, for example, when the windshield wipers are operating.
VEHICLE-TO-VEHICLE DISTANCE CONTROL MODE
Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the same speed as other vehicles, can be maintained without the
constant need to adjust the operating speed as with a conventional cruise control system.
The system is intended to enhance the operation of the vehicle when following another vehicle in the same
lane and direction.
If the distance sensor detects a slower moving vehicle ahead, the system will reduce speed so that the vehicle
ahead can be followed at the selected distance.
The system automatically controls the throttle and applies the brakes (up to 25% of vehicle braking power) if
necessary.
The detection range of the sensor is approximately 120 m (390 ft) ahead.
Refer to Owner's Manual for Intelligent Cruise Control System operating instructions.
CONVENTIONAL (FIXED SPEED) CRUISE CONTROL MODE
Conventional (fixed speed) cruise control mode is cruising at preset speeds.
Refer to Owner's Manual for Intelligent Cruise Control System operation instructions.
BRAKE ASSIST (WITH PREVIEW FUNCTION)
When the force applied to brake pedal exceeds a certain level, the brake assist is activated and generates a
greater braking force than that of a conventional brake booster, even with light pedal force.
When the preview function identifies the need to apply the sudden brake by sensing the vehicle ahead in the
same lane and the distance and relative speed from it, it applies the brake pre-pressure before driver
depresses the brake pedal and improves brake response by reducing its free play.
Refer to Owner's Manual for Intelligent Cruise Control System operating instructions.

TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS
Revision: November 20092006 QX56
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The front air control controls compressor operation based on ambient and intake temperature and a signal
from ECM.
Low Temperature Protection Control
The front air control will turn the compressor ON or OFF as determined by a signal detected by the intake sen-
sor and the ambient sensor.
When intake air temperature is higher than the preset value, the compressor turns ON. The compressor turns
OFF when intake air temperature is lower than the preset value. That preset value is dependent on the ambi-
ent temperature, refer to the following table.

ROUTE SEARCH
NOTE:
Except for the ordinance-designated cities. (Malfunctioning areas may be changed in the updated map disc.)Symptom
Cause Remedy
No route is shown. No road to be searched is found around the des-
tination. Find wider road (orange road or wider)
nearby and reset the destination and passing
points onto it. Take care of the traveling
direction when there are separate up and
down roads.
Starting point and the destination are too close. Set the destination at more distant point.
Conditional traffic regulation (day of the week/
time of the day) is set at the area around the cur-
rent location or the destination. Turn the time-regulating search conditions
OFF. Turn
“Avoid regulation time” in the
search conditions OFF.
Indicated route is intermittent. In some areas, highways (gray routes) are not used for the search
(Note) Therefore, the route to
the current location or the passing points may be
intermittent. System is not malfunctioning.
When the vehicle has passed the
recommended route, it is deleted
from the screen. A recommended route is controlled by each sec-
tion. When the vehicle has passed the passing
point 1, then the map data from the starting point
up to the passing point 1 will be deleted. (The
data may remain undeleted in some areas.) System is not malfunctioning.
Detouring route is recommended. In some areas, highways (gray routes) are not used for the search. (Note). Therefore, detour
route may be recommended. Set the route closer to the basic route (gray
route).
A detour route may be shown when some traffic
regulation (one-way traffic, etc.) is set at the area
around the starting point or the destination. Slightly move the starting point or the desti-
nation, or set the passing point on the route
of your choice.
In the area where highways (gray routes) are
used for the search, left turn has priority around
the current location and the destination (passing
points). For this reason, the recommended route
may be detouring. System is not malfunctioning.
Landmarks on the map do not
match the actual ones. This can be happen due to omission or error in
the map data. As a rule, an updated map DVD-ROM will be
released once a year. Wait until the latest
map has become available.
Recommended route is far from
the starting point, passing points,
and destination. Starting point, passing points, and destination of
the route guide were set far from the desired
points because route searching data around
these area were not stored. Reset the destination onto the road nearby. If
this road is one of the highways (gray
routes), an ordinary road nearby may be dis-
played as the recommended route.

2. The sonar buzzer will sound once.
3. Rear sonar system OFF indicator will flash and sonar buzzer will sound the first digit of the fault code followed by a one second
pause.
4. Rear sonar system OFF indicator will flash and sonar buzzer will sound the second digit of the fault code followed by a four sec-
ond pause.
5. The fault codes will repeat five times then pause. NOTE:
Requesting fault codes will exit unless the fault code is acknowledged before five repeats ends.
The fault code is acknowledged by pushing the rear sonar system OFF switch once (the sonar buzzer
may sound). When all fault codes have been indicated, idle mode will be entered. See the following table
for fault code identification.

ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM
2006 QX56
Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) SystemUBS00KZ7
INPUT/OUTPUT SIGNAL CHART
*1: This sensor is not used to control the engine system. This is used only for the on board diagnosis.
*2: This signal is sent to the ECM through CAN communication line.
*3: ECM determines the start signal status by the signals of engine speed and battery voltage.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The amount of fuel injected from the fuel injector is determined by the ECM. The ECM controls the length of
time the valve remains open (injection pulse duration). The amount of fuel injected is a program value in the
ECM memory. The program value is preset by engine operating conditions. These conditions are determined
by input signals (for engine speed and intake air) from both the crankshaft position sensor and the mass air
flow sensor.
VARIOUS FUEL INJECTION INCREASE/DECREASE COMPENSATION
In addition, the amount of fuel injected is compensated to improve engine performance under various operat-
ing conditions as listed below.
<Fuel increase>
During warm-up
When starting the engine
During acceleration
Hot-engine operation
When selector lever is changed from N to D

ON BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM
2006 QX56
When the same malfunction is detected in two consecutive trips, the DTC and the freeze frame data are
stored in the ECM memory, and the MIL will come on. For details, refer to EC-48, "
Two Trip Detection
Logic" .
The MIL will go off after the vehicle is driven 3 times (driving pattern B) with no malfunction. The drive is
counted only when the recorded driving pattern is met (as stored in the ECM). If another malfunction
occurs while counting, the counter will reset.
The DTC and the freeze frame data will be stored until the vehicle is driven 40 times (driving pattern A)
without the same malfunction recurring (except for Misfire and Fuel Injection System). For Misfire and
Fuel Injection System, the DTC and freeze frame data will be stored until the vehicle is driven 80 times
(driving pattern C) without the same malfunction recurring. The “TIME” in “SELF-DIAGNOSTIC
RESULTS ” mode of CONSULT-II will count the number of times the vehicle is driven.
The 1st trip DTC is not displayed when the self-diagnosis results in OK for the 2nd trip.
SUMMARY CHART
For details about patterns B and C under “Fuel Injection System ” and “ Misfire ”, see EC-68, "EXPLANATION FOR DRIVING PATTERNS
