OFF mode
Press the OFF button to turn off the air
climate control system. However, you can still operate the air intake buttons
as long as the ignition switch is in the
ON position.
System operation
Ventilation
1. Set the mode to the position.
2. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position.
3. Set the temperature control to the desired position.
4. Set the fan speed control to the desired speed.
Heating
1. Set the mode to the position.
2. Set the air intake control to the outside (fresh) air position.
3. Set the temperature control to the desired position.
4. Set the fan speed control to the desired speed.
5. If dehumidified heating is desired, turn the air conditioning system (if
equipped) on.
• If the windshield fogs up, set the mode to the
or position.
Operation Tips
• To keep dust or unpleasant fumes from entering the vehicle through the
ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake control to the recircula‐
ted air position. Be sure to return the
control to the fresh air position when
the irritation has passed to keep
fresh air in the vehicle. This will help keep the driver alert and comforta‐
ble. • Air for the heating/cooling system is
drawn in through the grilles just
ahead of the windshield. Care should
be taken that these are not blocked by leaves, snow, ice or other obstruc‐
tions.
• To prevent interior fog on the wind‐ shield, set the air intake control to
the fresh air position and fan speed to the desired position, turn on the
air conditioning system, and adjust
the temperature control to desired
temperature.

•Use the power outlet only whenthe engine is running and removethe accessory plug after use. Usingthe accessory plug for prolongedperiods of time with the engine offcould cause the battery to dis‐charge.
•Only use 12V electric accessorieswhich are less than 10A in electriccapacity.
•Adjust the air-conditioner or heat‐er to the lowest operating levelwhen using the power outlet.
•Close the cover when not in use.
•Some electronic devices can causeelectronic interference when plug‐ged into a vehicle’s power outlet.These devices may cause exces‐sive audio static and malfunctionsin other electronic systems or de‐vices used in your vehicle.
•Using electrical products which ex‐ceed the limited capacity mightcause heating to the power outletand wiring that could lead to anelectrical breakdown.

USB charger (if equipped)
The USB charger is designed to re‐
charge batteries of small size electrical devices using a USB cable. The electrical
devices can be recharged when the En‐
gine Start/Stop button is in ACC/ON/ START position.
The battery charging state may be
monitored on the electrical device.
Disconnect the USB cable from the USB
port after use. • Some devices are not supported for fast charging but will be charged withnormal speed.
• Use the USB charger when the engine is running to prevent battery dis‐
charge.

•The vehicle center of gravity willbe higher when items are loadedonto the roof rack. Avoid suddenstarts, braking, sharp turns,abrupt maneuvers or high speedsthat may result in loss of vehiclecontrol or rollover resulting in anaccident.
•Always drive slowly and turn cor‐ners carefully when carrying itemson the roof rack. Severe wind up‐drafts, caused by passing vehiclesor natural causes, can cause sud‐den upward pressure on items loa‐ded on the roof rack. This is espe‐cially true when carrying large, flatitems such as wood panels or mat‐tresses. This could cause the itemsto fall off the roof rack and causedamage to your vehicle or othersaround you.
•To prevent damage or loss of car‐go while driving, check frequentlybefore or while driving to makesure the items on the roof rack aresecurely fastened.

ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!

nENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust fumes can be extremely dangerous. If, at any time, you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open thewindows immediately.•Do not inhale exhaust fumes.Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyx‐iation.
•Be sure the exhaust system does not leak.The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose. If youhear a change in the sound of the exhaust or if you drive over something that strikes the underneath side of the vehicle,have the system checked by a professional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
•Do not run the engine in an enclosed area.Letting the engine idle in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a hazardous practice. Never run the engine inyour garage any longer than it takes to start the engine and back the vehicle out.
•Avoid idling the engine for prolonged periods with people inside the vehicle.If it is necessary to idle the engine for a prolonged period with people inside the vehicle, be sure to do so only in an openarea with the air intake set at "Fresh" and fan operating at one of the higher speeds so fresh air is drawn into the interi‐or.
If you must drive with the tailgate/trunk open because you are carrying objects that make this necessary:1.Close all windows.
2.Open side vents.
3.Set the air intake control at "Fresh", the air flow control at "Floor" or "Face" and the fan at one of the higher speeds.
To assure proper operation of the ventilation system, be sure the ventilation air intakes located just in front of the wind‐shield are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves or other obstructions.

The steering wheel locks to protect
against theft. The ignition key can be removed only in the LOCK position.
ACC (Accessory)
The steering wheel is unlocked and
electrical accessories are operative.
NOTICE
If difficulty is experienced turning
the ignition switch to the ACC posi‐
tion, turn the key while turning the
steering wheel right and left to re‐
lease the tension.
ON
The warning lights can be checked be‐
fore the engine is started. This is the normal running position after the en‐
gine is started.
Do not leave the ignition switch ON if
the engine is not running to prevent battery discharge.
START
Turn the ignition switch to the START
position to start the engine. The engine will crank until you release the key;
then it returns to the ON position. The
brake warning light can be checked in this position.
WARNING
nIgnition switch
•Never turn the ignition switch toLOCK or ACC while the vehicle ismoving. This would result in loss ofdirectional control and brakingfunction, which could cause an ac‐cident.

•The anti-theft steering columnlock is not a substitute for theparking brake. Before leaving thedriver’s seat, always make surethe shift lever is engaged in 1stgear for the manual transaxle or P(Park) for the automatic transaxle,set the parking brake fully andshut the engine off. Unexpectedand sudden vehicle movementmay occur if these precautions arenot taken.
•Never reach for the ignitionswitch, or any other controlsthrough the steering wheel whilethe vehicle is in motion. The pres‐ence of your hand or arm in thisarea could cause a loss of vehiclecontrol, an accident and seriousbodily injury or death.
•Do not place any movable objectsaround the driver’s seat as theymay move while driving, interferewith the driver and lead to an acci‐dent.
Starting the engine
WARNING
•Always wear appropriate shoeswhen operating your vehicle. Un‐suitable shoes (high heels, skiboots,etc.) may interfere withyour ability to use the brake andaccelerator pedal, and the clutch(if equipped).
•Do not start the vehicle with theaccelerator pedal depressed. Thevehicle can move and lead to anaccident.
•Wait until the engine rpm is nor‐mal. The vehicle may suddenlymove if the brake pedal is releasedwhen the rpm is high.

If your vehicle is equipped with a kick
down mechanism in the accelerator

pedal, it prevents you from driving
at full throttle unintentionally by
making the driver require increased
effort to depress the accelerator
pedal. However, if you depress the
pedal more than approximately 80%,
the vehicle can be at full throttle and
the accelerator pedal will be easier
to depress. This is not a malfunction
but a normal condition.
Starting the gasoline engine
1. Make sure the parking brake is ap‐plied.
2.
Manual Transaxle - Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the
clutch pedal and brake pedal de‐
pressed while turning the ignition
switch to the start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P (Park). De‐ press the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N (Neutral)position.

3. Turn the ignition switch to STARTand hold it there until the engine
starts (a maximum of 10 seconds),
then release the key.
It should be started without de‐pressing the accelerator pedal.
4. Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle remains sta‐
tionary.
Start driving at moderate engine
speeds. (Steep accelerating and de‐ celerating should be avoided.)
CAUTION
If the engine stalls while you are inmotion, do not attempt to move theshift lever to the P (Park) position. Iftraffic and road conditions permit,you may put the shift lever in the N(Neutral) position while the vehicle isstill moving and turn the ignitionswitch to the START position in anattempt to restart the engine.
CAUTION
•Do not engage the starter formore than 10 seconds. If the en‐gine stalls or fails to start, wait 5to 10 seconds before re-engagingthe starter. Improper use of thestarter may damage it.
•Do not turn the ignition switch tothe START position with the en‐gine running. It may damage thestarter.
Starting the diesel engine
To start the diesel engine when the en‐
gine is cold, it has to be pre-heated be‐ fore starting the engine and then have
to be warmed up before starting to
drive. 1. Make sure the parking brake is ap‐ plied. 2.
Manual Transaxle -
Depress the
clutch pedal fully and shift the
transaxle into Neutral. Keep the
clutch pedal and brake pedal de‐ pressed while turning the ignition
switch to the start position.
Automatic Transaxle - Place the
transaxle shift lever in P(park). De‐
press the brake pedal fully.
You can also start the engine when
the shift lever is in the N(neutral) position.

Then the glow indicator light will il‐
luminate.

4. If the glow indicator light goes out,turn the ignition switch to the
START position and hold it there
until the engine starts (a maximum
of 10 seconds), then release the
key.
NOTICE
If the engine is not started within 10
seconds after the preheating is com‐
pleted, turn the ignition switch once
more to the LOCK position during 10
seconds, and then to the ON posi‐
tion, in order to preheat again.
Starting and stopping the engine
for turbocharger intercooler
1. Do not race or accelerate the en‐ gine immediately after starting.
If the engine is cold, idle for several
seconds before sufficient lubrica‐
tion is ensured in the turbocharger
unit. 2. After high speed or extended driv‐
ing, requiring a heavy engine load,
idle the engine about 1 minute be‐
fore turning it off.
This idle time will allow the turbo‐ charger to cool prior to shutting off
the engine.
CAUTION
Do not turn off the engine immedi‐ately after it has been subjected to aheavy load. Doing so may cause se‐vere damage to the engine or turbo‐charger unit.

ENGINE START/STOP BUTTON (IF EQUIPPED)
Illuminated ENGINE START/STOP
button
Whenever the front door is opened, the
ENGINE START/STOP button will illumi‐ nate for your convenience. The light will
go off after about 30 seconds when the
door is closed. It will also go off imme‐
diately when the theft-alarm system is
armed.

With manual transaxle
To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or ve‐
hicle power (ON position), stop the vehicle then press the ENGINE START/STOP button.
With automatic transaxle
To turn off the engine (START/RUN po‐
sition) or vehicle power (ON position),
press the ENGINE START/STOP button with the shift lever in the P (Park) posi‐
tion. When you press the ENGINE
START/STOP button without the shift lever in the P (Park) position, the EN‐
GINE START/STOP button will not
change to the OFF position but to the ACC position.
Also, the steering wheel locks when the
ENGINE START/STOP button is in the
OFF position to protect you against theft. It locks when the door is opened.
Not illuminated
Vehicles equipped with anti-theftsteering column lock
The steering wheel locks when the en‐ gine start/stop button is in the OFF po‐
sition to protect you against theft. It
locks when the door is opened.
If the steering wheel is not locked prop‐ erly when you open the driver's door,
the warning chime will sound. If the
problem is not solved, have the system checked by a professional workshop.
Kia recommends to visit an authorized
Kia dealer/service partner.
In addition, if the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the OFF position after the
driver's door is opened, the steering
wheel will not lock and the warning chime will sound. In such a situation,
close the door. Then the steering wheel
will lock and the warning chime will stop.
NOTICE
If the steering wheel doesn't unlock
properly, the ENGINE START/STOP
button will not work. Press the EN‐
