Operation in foreign countries
If you are going to drive your vehicle in
another country, be sure to: • Observe all regulations regarding reg‐ istration and insurance.
• Determine that acceptable fuel is available.
Diesel engine
Diesel fuel
Diesel engine must be operated only on
commercially available diesel fuel that
complies with EN 590 or comparable standard. (EN stands for "European
Norm"). Do not use marine diesel fuel,
heating oils, or non-approved fuel addi‐ tives, as this will increase wear and
cause damage to the engine and fuel
system. The use of non-approved fuels and / or fuel additives will result in a
limitation of your warranty rights.
Diesel fuel of above cetane 51 is used in
your vehicle. If two types of diesel fuel
are available, use summer or winter fuel properly according to the following
temperature conditions. • Above -5°C (23°F) ... Summer type diesel fuel.
• Below -5°C (23°F) ... Winter type die‐ sel fuel. Watch the fuel level in the tank very
carefully : If the engine stops through
fuel failure, the circuits must be com‐
pletely purged to restart.
CAUTION
Do not let any gasoline or water en‐ter the tank. This would make it nec‐essary to drain it out and to bleedthe lines to avoid jamming the injec‐tion pump and damaging the engine.
CAUTION
nDiesel Fuel (if equipped withDPF)
It is recommended to use the regula‐ted automotive diesel fuel for dieselvehicle equipped with the DPF sys‐tem.If you use diesel fuel including highsulfur (more than 50 ppm sulfur)and unspecified additives, it cancause the DPF system to be dam‐aged and white smoke can be emit‐ted.
Biodiesel
Commercially supplied Diesel blends of
no more than 7% biodiesel, commonly
known as "B7 Diesel" may be used in your vehicle if Biodiesel meets EN
14214 or equivalent specifications. (EN
stands for "European Norm"). The use of biofuels exceeding 7% made from
rapeseed methyl ester (RME), fatty
acid methyl ester (FAME), vegetable oil methyl ester (VME) etc. or mixing die‐
sel exceeding 7% with biodiesel will
cause increased wear or damage to the engine and fuel system. Repair or re‐
placement of worn or damaged compo‐
nents due to the use of non approved fuels will not be covered by the manu‐
factures warranty.
CAUTION
•Never use any fuel, whether dieselor B7 biodiesel or otherwise, thatfails to meet the latest petroleumindustry specification.
•Never use any fuel additives ortreatments that are not recom‐mended or approved by the vehiclemanufacturer.

Introduction

RISK OF BURNS WHEN PARKING OR STOPPING VEHICLE.
• Do not park or stop the vehicle near flammable items such as leaves, pa‐
per, oil, and tire. Such items placed
near the exhaust system can become
a fire hazard.
• When an engine idles at a high speed with the rear side of the vehicle
touching the wall, heat of the ex‐
haust gas can cause discoloration or
fire. Keep enough space between the
rear part of the vehicle and the wall.
• Be sure not to touch the exhaust/ catalytic systems while engine is run‐
ning or right after the engine is
turned off. There is a risk of burns
since the systems are extremely hot.

SEAT BELTS
Seat belt restraint system
WARNING
•For maximum restraint systemprotection, the seat belts must al‐ways be used whenever the car ismoving.
•Seat belts are most effective whenseatbacks are in the upright posi‐tion.
•Children age 12 and younger mustalways be properly restrained inthe rear seat. Never allow childrento ride in the front passenger seat.If a child over 12 must be seated inthe front seat, he/she must beproperly belted and the seatshould be moved as far back aspossible.
•Never wear the shoulder belt un‐der your arm or behind your back.An improperly positioned shoulderbelt can cause serious injuries in acrash. The shoulder belt should bepositioned midway over yourshoulder across your collarbone.

•Never wear a seat belt over fragileobjects. If there is a sudden stopor impact, the seat belt can dam‐age it.
•Avoid wearing twisted seat belts.A twisted belt can't do its job aswell. In a collision, it could even cutinto you. Be sure the belt webbingis straight and not twisted.
•Be careful not to damage the beltwebbing or hardware. If the beltwebbing or hardware is damaged,replace it.
WARNING
Seat belts are designed to bear uponthe bony structure of the body, andshould be worn low across the frontof the pelvis or the pelvis, chest andshoulders, as applicable; wearing thelap section of the belt across the ab‐dominal area must be avoided.Seat belts should be adjusted asfirmly as possible, consistent withcomfort, to provide the protectionfor which they have been designed.

A slack belt will greatly reduce theprotection afforded to the wearer.Care should be taken to avoid con‐tamination of the webbing with pol‐ishes, oils and chemicals, and partic‐ularly battery acid.Cleaning may safely be carried outusing mild soap and water. The beltshould be replaced if webbing be‐comes frayed, contaminated ordamaged.It is essential to replace the entireassembly after it has been worn in asevere impact even if damage to theassembly is not obvious. Belts shouldnot be worn with straps twisted.Each belt assembly must only beused by one occupant; it is danger‐ous to put a belt around a child beingcarried on the occupant's lap.

Charging System
Warning Light
This warning light illumi‐nates:
• Once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON
position. - It remains on until the engine is started.
• When there is a malfunction with ei‐ ther the alternator or electrical
charging system.
If there is a malfunction with either thealternator or electrical charging sys‐tem:
1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.
2. Turn the engine off and check the alternator drive belt for looseness
or breakage.
In this case, have the vehicle in‐
spected by a professional workshopas soon as possible.
Kia recommends to visit an author‐
ized Kia dealer/service partner.
Engine Oil Pressure
Warning Light
This warning light illumi‐nates:
• Once you set the ignition switch or Engine Start/Stop Button to the ON
position. - It remains on until the engine is started.
• When the engine oil pressure is low.
If the engine oil pressure is low:
1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe location and stop your vehicle.
2. Turn the engine off and check the engine oil level (For more details,
refer to L

Engine Oil Level Warning
Light (if equipped)
The engine oil level warninglight illuminates when the
engine oil level should be checked.
If the warning light comes on, check the engine oil level as soon as possible and
add engine oil as required.
Slowly pour the recommended oil little
by little into a funnel.(Oil refill capacity : Approximately 0.6
l~1.0 l)
Use only the specified engine oil. (Refer
to L

Overspeed Warning Light
(if equipped)
This warning light blinks:
• When you drive the vehi‐ cle more than 120 km/h.- This is to prevent you from driving your vehicle with overspeed.
- The overspeed warning chime also sound for approximately 5 sec‐ onds.
120km/h
Master Warning Light
This indicator light illumi‐nates:
• This warning light informs the driver the following situations- TPMS failure, low pressure (if equipped)
- Low engine oil (if equipped)
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system (if equipped) failure
- Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) malfunction (if equipped)
If the warning situation is solved, the master warning light will turn off.
Exhaust system (DPF)
warning light (Diesel
Engine)
This warning light illumi‐nates:
• When there is a malfunction with Die‐ sel Particulate Filter (DPF) system.
• When this warning light illuminates, it may turn off after driving the vehicle:- at more than 60 km/h (37 mph), or
- at more than 2nd gear with 1500 ~ 2000 engine rpm for a certain time (for about 25 minutes).
If this warning light blinks in spite of
the procedure (at this time the LCD warning message will be displayed),
have the DPF system checked by a pro‐
fessional workshop. Kia recommends to visit an authorized Kia dealer/ service
partner.
CAUTION
nDiesel Engine with DPF (ifequipped)

If you continue to drive with the DPFwarning light blinking for a longtime, the DPF system can be dam‐aged and fuel consumption can wor‐sen.
Door Ajar Warning Light
(if equipped)
This warning light illumi‐nates:
When a door is not closed securely.
Tailgate Open Warning
Light (if equipped)
This warning light illumi‐nates:
When the tailgate is not closed secure‐
ly.
Washer Fluid Warning
Light (if equipped)
This warning light illumi‐nates:
• When the washer fluid level in the reservoir is nearly empty.
In this case, you should refill the
washer fluid.

4. Adjust the fan speed control and temperature control to maintain
maximum comfort.

•The refrigerant system should on‐ly be serviced by trained and certi‐fied technicians to insure properand safe operation.
•The refrigerant system should beserviced in a well-ventilated place.
•The air conditioning evaporator(cooling coil) shall never be re‐paired or replaced with one re‐moved from a used or salvagedvehicle and new replacement MACevaporators shall be certified (andlabeled) as meeting SAE StandardJ2842.
NOTICE
•When using the air conditioning
system, monitor the temperature
gauge closely while driving up hills
or in heavy traffic when outside
temperatures are high. Air condi‐
tioning system operation may
cause engine overheating. Contin‐
ue to use the blower fan but turn
the air conditioning system off if
the temperature gauge indicates
engine overheating.
•When opening the windows in hu‐
mid weather air conditioning may
create water droplets inside the
vehicle. Since excessive water
droplets may cause damage to
electrical equipment, air condition‐
ing should only be used with the
windows closed.
Air conditioning system operation tips
• If the vehicle has been parked in di‐ rect sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows for a short time to let the hot air inside the vehicle es‐
cape. • To help reduce moisture inside of the
windows on rainy or humid days, de‐
crease the humidity inside the vehicle
by operating the air conditioning sys‐ tem.
• During air conditioning system opera‐ tion, you may occasionally notice a
slight change in engine speed as the
air conditioning compressor cycles.
This is a normal system operation characteristic.
• Use the air conditioning system every month only for a few minutes to en‐
sure maximum system performance.
• When using the air conditioning sys‐ tem, you may notice clear waterdripping (or even puddling) on the
ground under the passenger side of
the vehicle. This is a normal system
operation characteristic.
• Operating the air conditioning system in the recirculated air position pro‐vides maximum cooling, however,
continual operation in this mode may
cause the air inside the vehicle to be‐
come stale.
• During cooling operation, you may oc‐ casionally notice a misty air flow be‐
cause of rapid cooling and humid air
intake. This is a normal system oper‐
ation characteristic.
