When Driving
Start/Stop Engine
i-stop *
The i-stop (idling stop) function automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is stopped
at a traffi c light or stuck in traffi c after the engine has been warmed up (SKYACTIV-G 1.5
, SKYACTIV-G 2.0) or other times when the engine is not cold (SKYACTIV-D 2.2), and
then restarts the engine automatically to resume driving. The system provides improved fuel
economy, reduced exhaust gas emissions, and eliminates idling noise while the engine is
stopped.
The driver is notifi ed of a system malfunction or the operation conditions by the i-stop
warning light (amber), i-stop indicator light (green), i-stop warning beep, and control status
display.
Engine stop and restart functions
(Manual transaxle)
1 . (Except European model)
The i-stop indicator light (green) illuminates when the i-stop conditions are met while the
vehicle is being driven.
2. Depress the brake pedal and then the clutch pedal, and bring the vehicle to a complete
stop.
3. After bringing the vehicle to a stop, shift the lever to the neutral position while
depressing the clutch pedal. The engine automatically stops after the clutch pedal is
released. The i-stop indicator light (green) also illuminates while the i-stop function is
operating.
4. To restart the engine, depress the clutch pedal (i-stop indicator light (green) turns off).
The i-stop indicator light (green) illuminates if the i-stop function conditions are met
again while driving (except European model).

When Driving
Start/Stop Engine
(Automatic transaxle)
1 . (Except European model)
The i-stop indicator light (green) illuminates when the i-stop conditions are met while the
vehicle is being driven.
2. The i-stop function operates when the brake pedal is depressed while driving the vehicle
(except for driving in reverse) and the vehicle is stopped. The i-stop indicator light
(green) also illuminates while the i-stop function is operating.
3. When the brake pedal is released while the selector lever is in the D/M position (not
second gear fi xed mode), the engine restarts automatically and the i-stop indicator light
(green) turns off. The i-stop indicator light (green) illuminates if the i-stop function
conditions are met again while driving (except European model).
With the selector lever in the N or P position, the engine will not restart even if the brake
pedal is released. If the brake pedal is depressed again, the engine will restart.
Engine stop Restart
CAUTION
(Automatic transaxle)
If any of the following conditions occurs, the i-stop function does not operate.

The wheels are not in the straight-ahead position.
The vehicle is stopped on a steep incline.

When Driving
Start/Stop Engine
NOTE
(Automatic transaxle)

The selector lever is in the D/M position (not second gear fi xed mode) or the N
position.

The automatic transaxle fl uid has warmed up suffi ciently.

The automatic transaxle fl uid temperature is not abnormally high.

The steering wheel is positioned so that the wheels are pointed nearly straight ahead
(if force is applied to the steering wheel even with the wheels pointed straight ahead,
the i-stop function may not operate. Loosen your grip on the steering wheel to allow
the i-stop function to operate).

The brake pedal is depressed to stop the vehicle (if the i-stop indicator light (green)
fl ashes without the i-stop function operating, it is possible that the brake pedal
has not been depressed suffi ciently. Depress the brake pedal a little more strongly
(except European model)).

 Emergency braking is not applied.

The vehicle is not stopped on a steep grade in a place such as a multilevel car
parking facility.

(SKYACTIV-D 2.2)
The fuel injection learning, which occurs periodically and automatically, is not
performed.

If any one of the following conditions occurs, extra time may be required for the
engine to stop automatically.

Battery power is depleted as a result of not using the vehicle for a long period.

The ambient temperature is high or low.

The battery leads have been disconnected for battery replacement and then
reconnected.

(SKYACTIV-D 2.2)
Particulate Matter (PM) is eliminated by the diesel particulate fi lter.

For safety reasons, if any one of the following operations is performed after the engine
has been automatically stopped, the i-stop warning light (amber) illuminates and the
engine will not restart automatically even if the clutch pedal is depressed (manual
transaxle) or the brake pedal is released (automatic transaxle). If this occurs, use the
standard engine starting procedure to start the engine.

 The bonnet is opened.

The driver intends to get out of the vehicle (driver's seat belt is unfastened and
driver's door is opened).

NOTE
(Automatic transaxle) If the selector lever is shifted from D/M position (not second gear fi xed mode) to the
N position or from the D/M position (not second gear fi xed mode) to the P position
while the i-stop function is operating, the engine will not restart automatically even
if the brake pedal is released. The engine will restart if the brake pedal is depressed
again or the selector lever is shifted to the D/M position (not second gear fi xed mode)
or the R position. In addition, when the driver intends to get out of the vehicle while
the shift lever is in the N or P position (the driver's seat belt is unfastened and the door
is opened), the engine restarts (except European model). (For the purpose of safety,
always keep the brake pedal depressed when shifting the selector lever while the i-stop
function is operating.)

Start/Stop Engine
NOTE
If any one of the following operations is performed after the engine has been
automatically stopped (shift lever is in neutral position for vehicles with manual
transaxle), the engine will restart automatically even though the clutch pedal is not
depressed (manual transaxle) or the brake pedal is not released (automatic transaxle).
However, for safety reasons, if the shift lever is in a position other than neutral for
vehicles with manual transaxle, the engine will not restart automatically.

The i-stop OFF switch is pressed for several seconds.

(Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)
The temperature setting dial of the air conditioning is set to maximum heating/
maximum cooling (A/C ON).

The windscreen defroster switch is on.

(Except European model)
The driver intends to get out of the vehicle (driver's seat belt is unfastened and any
door or the liftgate/boot lid is opened).

The brakes are released slightly on a slope and the vehicle begins to move.

(Automatic transaxle)

The accelerator pedal is depressed while the selector lever is in the D/M position
(not second gear fi xed mode).

The selector lever is shifted to the R position.

The selector lever is shifted from the N or P position to the D/M position (not second
gear fi xed mode).

The steering wheel is operated with the selector lever in the D/M position (not
second gear fi xed mode).

The selector lever is in the M position, second gear fi xed mode.

If any one of the following vehicle conditions occur after the engine has been
automatically stopped (shift lever is in neutral position for vehicles with manual
transaxle), the engine will restart automatically even though the clutch pedal is not
depressed (manual transaxle) or the brake pedal is not released (automatic transaxle).
However, for safety reasons, if the shift lever is in a position other than neutral for
vehicles with manual transaxle, the engine will not restart automatically.

(Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)
There is a large difference between the cabin temperature and the temperature set for
the air-conditioning system.

This light illuminates while the i-stop function is operable or operating and the engine is
stopped automatically. The light turns off when the engine is restarted automatically.
When fl ashing

If any one of the following conditions occur, the light fl ashes twice per second as a safety
precaution to the driver.

(European model)
The light fl ashes when the driver's door is opened and turns off after it is closed.

(Manual transaxle)
The light fl ashes when the shift lever is shifted to a position other than neutral without
depressing the clutch pedal, and turns off after shifting the shift lever to the neutral
position.

(European model)
If any one of the following conditions occur, the light fl ashes once per second for a period
of about three seconds to notify the driver that the vehicle is about to restart automatically,
and then it turns off after the engine restarts.
 (Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning)

The temperature setting dial for the air-conditioning system on the driver's side is set to
the maximum hot or cold position.

There is a large difference between the cabin temperature and the set temperature on the

cannot be displayed, however, pressing
the selector can inadvertently switch
the trip meters or reset them during an
approximate ten-minute period in the
following cases:

After the ignition is switched to off
from ON.
After the driver's door is opened.
Odometer
The odometer records the total distance
the vehicle has been driven.
Trip meter
The trip meter can record the total distance
of two trips. One is recorded in trip meter
A, and the other is recorded in trip meter
B.
For instance, trip meter A can record the
distance from the point of origin, and
trip meter B can record the distance from
where the fuel tank is fi lled.
When trip meter A is selected, pressing
the selector again within one second will
change to trip meter B mode.
When trip meter A is selected, TRIP A
will be displayed. When trip meter B is
selected, TRIP B will be displayed. The trip meter records the total distance
the vehicle is driven until the meter
is again reset. Return it to “0.0” by
depressing and holding the selector for
one second or more. Use this meter to
measure trip distances and to compute fuel
consumption.
NOTE
(Vehicles with type C/type D audio) If the fuel economy data is reset
using the fuel economy monitor,
or trip A is reset using the trip
meter when the function which
synchronizes the fuel economy
monitor and the trip meter is on, the
fuel economy data and trip A are
reset simultaneously.
Refer to Fuel Economy Monitor on
