The SCBS is a system which operates in response to a vehicle ahead. The system may not be
able to detect or react to 2- wheeled vehicles or pedestrians.
CAUTION
In the following cases, turn the system
off to prevent a mis-operation:
 The vehicle is being towed or when towing another vehicle.
 The vehicle is on a chassis roller.
 When driving on rough roads such as in areas of dense grass or off-road.
Refer to Stopping the Smart City Brake Suppor t (SCBS) system Operation on page 4-127 on
how to turn off the SCBS system.
NOTE
ï‚·The SCBS system will operate under the following conditions.
ï‚·The engine is running.
ï‚·The Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) system warning light
(amber) does not illuminate.
ï‚·(Rear-end collision warning)
The vehicle speed is about 4 to 80 km/h (2 to 50 mph).
ï‚·(Brake control (Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) brake))
The vehicle speed is about 4 to 30 km/h (2 to 18 mph).
ï‚·The SCBS system is not turned off.
ï‚·Under the following conditions, the SCBS system may not operate normally:
ï‚·The SCBS system will not operate if the dr iver is deliberately performing driving
operations (accelerator pedal and steering wheel).
ï‚·If there is the possibility of partial contact with a vehicle ahead.
ï‚·The vehicle is driven on a slippery road surface such as wet roads or icy or snow-bound
roads.
ï‚·The braking performance is adversely affected due to cold temperatures or wet brakes.
ï‚·The vehicle is driven at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
ï‚·The accelerator pedal is depressed.
ï‚·The brake pedal is depressed.
ï‚·The steering wheel is being operated.
ï‚·The selector lever is being operated.

ï‚·In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) determines that there is a
vehicle ahead and the SCBS may operate.
ï‚·Objects on the road at the entrance to a curve.
ï‚·Vehicles passing in the opposite lane while making a curve.
ï‚·Metal objects, bumps, or protruding objects on the road.
ï‚·When passing through a toll gate.
ï‚·When passing through low gates, narrow gates, car washing machines, or tunnels.
ï‚·If you suddenly come close to a vehicle ahead.
ï‚·2-wheeled vehicles, pedestrians, animals or standing trees.
ï‚·Vehicle is driven with some of the tires having significant wear.
ï‚·(Manual transaxle)
If the vehicle is stopped by the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) operation and the clutch
pedal is not depressed, the engine stops.
â–¼Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)
Indicator Light (Red)
If the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) is
operating, the indicator light (red) flashes.

â–¼Collision Warning
If there is the possibil
ity of a collision with
a vehicle ahead, the beep sounds
continuously and a warning is indicated in
the active driving display.
NOTE
The operation distance and volume of the
collision warning can be changed. Refer
to Personalization Features on page 9-
12.
â–¼ Automatic Brake
Operation Display
The automatic brake operation display is
indicated on the active driving display
after the SCBS is operated.
NOTE
ï‚·The collision warning beep sounds
intermittently while the SCBS brake or
brake assist (SCBS brake assist) is
operating.
ï‚·If the vehicle is stopped by the SCBS
operation and the brake pedal is not
depressed, the warning beep sounds one
time after about 2 seconds and the SCBS
brake is automatically released.

ï‚·The SBS system may not operate under the following conditions:
ï‚·If the vehicle is accelerated rapidly and it comes cl ose to a vehicle ahead.
ï‚·The vehicle is driven at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
ï‚·The accelerator pedal is depressed.
ï‚·The brake pedal is depressed.
ï‚·The steering wheel is being operated.
ï‚·The selector lever is being operated.
ï‚·The turn signal is being used.
ï‚·When the vehicle ahead is not equipped with taillights or the taillights are turned off.
ï‚·When warnings and messages, such as a dirty windshield, related to the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC) are being di splayed in the center display.
ï‚·Although the objects which activate the syst em are four-wheeled vehicles, the radar
sensor (front) could detect the following objects, determine them to be an obstruction, and
operate the SBS system.
ï‚·Objects on the road at the entrance to a curve (including guardrails and snow banks).
ï‚·A vehicle appears in the opposite lane while cornering or rounding a curve.
ï‚·When crossing a narrow bridge.
ï‚·When passing under a low gate or through a tunnel or narrow gate.
ï‚·When entering an underground parking area.
ï‚·Metal objects, bumps, or protruding objects on the road.
ï‚·If you suddenly come close to a vehicle ahead.
ï‚·When driving in areas where there is high grass or forage.
ï‚·Two-wheeled vehicles such as motorbikes or bicycles.
ï‚·Pedestrians or non-metallic objects such as standing trees.
ï‚·When the system operates, the user is notified by the active driving display.
ï‚·The SBS warning indication (amber) turn s on when the system has a malfunction.

Do not disassemble or modify the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
Disassembly or modification of the Forward Se nsing Camera (FSC) will cause a malfunction
or mistaken operation. Consequently, each system may not operate normally which could
lead to an unexpected accident.
 Heed the following cautions to assure the correct operation of the Forward Sensing Camera
(FSC).
 Be careful not to scratch the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens or allow it to get dirty.
 Do not remove the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cover.
 Do not place objects on the dashboard which reflect light.
 Always keep the windshield glass around the camera clean by removing dirt or fogging.
Use the windshield defroster to remove fogging on the windshield.
 Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer regard ing cleaning the interior side of the
windshield around the Forw ard Sensing Camera (FSC).
 Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer before performing repairs around the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC).
 The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is installed to the windshield. Consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer for windshield repair and replacement.
 When cleaning the windshield, do not allow glass cleaners or similar cleaning fluids to
get on the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens. In addition, do not touch the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC) lens.
 When performing repairs around the rearvi ew mirror, consult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
 Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer regarding cleaning of the camera lens.
 Do not hit or apply strong force to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) or the area around
it. If the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is severely hit or if there are cracks or damage
caused by flying gravel or debris in the area around it, stop using the following systems
and consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
High Beam Control System (HBC)
 Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
 Traffic Sign Recognition System ( TSR)
 Smart City Brake Support (SCBS)
 Smart Brake Support (SBS)
 The direction in which the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is pointed has been finely
adjusted. Do not change the installation position of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) or
remove it. Otherwise, it could result in damage or malfunction.
 Always use tires for all wheels that are of the specified size, and the same manufacturer,
brand, and tread pattern. In addition, do no t use tires with significantly different wear
patterns on the same vehicle as the system may not operate normally.

ï‚·The surroundings are dark such as during the night, early evening, or early morning, or
in a tunnel or indoor parking lot.
ï‚·The illumination brightness of the headlights is reduced or the headlight illumination is
weakened due to dirt or a deviated optical axis.
ï‚·The target object enters the blind spot of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
ï‚·A person or object bursts onto the road from the shoulder or cuts right in front of you.
ï‚·You change lanes and approach a vehicle ahead.
ï‚·When driving extremely close to the target object.
ï‚·Tire chains or a temporary spare tire is installed.
ï‚·The vehicle ahead has a special shape. For example, a vehicle towing a trailer house or
a boat, or a vehicle carrier carrying a vehicle with its front pointed rearward.
ï‚·If the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot operate normally due to backlight or fog,
the system functions related to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are temporarily
stopped and the following warn ing lights turn on. However, this does not indicate a
malfunction.
ï‚·High Beam Control System (HBC) warning light (amber)
ï‚·Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning
light
ï‚·Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) warning light (amber)
ï‚·If the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot operate normally due to high temperatures,
the system functions related to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are temporarily
stopped and the following warn ing lights turn on. However, this does not indicate a
malfunction. Cool down the area around the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) such as by
turning on the air conditioner.

Radar Sensor (Front)
Your vehicle is equipped with a radar sensor (front).
The following systems also use the radar sensor (front).
ï‚·Distance Recognition Support System (DRSS)
ï‚·Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
ï‚·Smart Brake Support (SBS)
The radar sensor (front) function s by detecting the radio waves reflected off a vehicle ahead
or an obstruction sent from the radar sensor.
The radar sensor (front) is m ounted behind the front emblem.
Radar sensor (front)
If the Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) Warning Light (amber)
is illuminated, the area around the radar sensor may be dirty. Refer to “Warning Guidance”
in the center display (Type B audio).
Refer to If a Warning Light Turns On or Flashes on page 7-25.
CAUTION
Heed the following precautions to assure correct operation of each system.
Do not adhere stickers (includi ng transparent stickers) to the surface of the radiator grille
and front emblem in and around the radar sensor (front), and do not replace the radiator
grille and front emblem with any product that is not a genuine product designed for use
with the radar sensor (front).
 The radar sensor (front) includes a function for detecting soiling of the radar sensor's front
surface and informing the driver, however, de pending on the conditions, it may require time
to detect or it may not detect plastic shopping bags, ice or snow. If this occurs, the system
may not operate correctly, therefore always keep the radar sensor (front) clean.
 Do not install a grille guard.
 If the front part of the vehicle has been dama ged in a vehicle accident, the position of the
radar sensor (front) may have moved. Stop the system immediately and always have the
vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

ï‚·If the vehicle is driven on a road with little traffic and few vehicles ahead or obstructions
for the radar sensor (front) to detect, the sensor detects that the radar sensor (front) is
dirty and the Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) Warning Light
(amber) may be temporarily turned on. However, it does not indicate a malfunction.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System*
The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) monitors the air pressure of all four tires. If
the air pressure of one or more tires is too low, the system warns the driver b y indicating the
tire pressure monitoring system warning light in the instrument cluster and operating a beep
sound. The system monitors the tire pressures indirectly using the data sent from the ABS
wheel speed sensors.
To allow the system to operate c orrectly, the system needs to be initialized with the specified
tire pressure (value on the tire pressure label). Follow the pr ocedure and perform the
initialization.
Refer to Tire Pressure Monitorin g System Initialization on page 4-148.
The warning light flashes when the system has a malfunction.

CAUTION
Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold and
inflated to the inflation pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle
placard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a
different size than the
size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire in flation pressure label, you should determine
the proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring
system ( TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressu re telltale when one or more of your tires is
significantly
under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire
pressure telltale illuminates, you
should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper
pressure. Driving on a significantly under-infla ted tire causes the tire to overheat and can
lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel
efficiency and tire tread life, and may
affect the vehicle's handling and stopping ability.
Please note that the TPMS is not a substitu te for proper tire maintenance, and it is the
driver's responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure, even if under-inflation has not
reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when
the system is not operating properly.
The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined wi th the low tire pressure telltale. When the
system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approximately one minute and then
remain continuously illuminate d. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle
start-ups as long as the malfunction exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated,
the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS
malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement
or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly.
Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replacing one or more tires or wheels on
your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to
continue to function properly.
 To avoid false readings, the system samples for a little while before indicating a problem. As
a result it will not instantane ously register a rapid tire
deflation or blow out.
NOTE
Because this system detects slight changes in tire conditions, the timing of the warning may
be faster or slower in the following cases:
ï‚·The size, manufacturer, or the type of
tires is different from the specification.
ï‚·The size, manufacturer, or the type of a tire is different from the others, or the level of tire
wear is excessively different between them.
ï‚·A run-flat tire, studless tire, snow tire, or tire chains are used.
