Unlocking and opening doors fromthe inside
Tounlockand open a front door:pull doorhandle2.Locking pin1pops up whenthe door isunlocked.
Tounlockarear passenger compartmentdoor:pulltherear passenger compartmentdoor handle.The locking pin pops up whentherearpassenger compartment door is unlocked.
Toopen arear passenger compartmentdoor:pulltherear passenger compartmentdoor handle again.
Centrally locking and unlockingthevehiclefromthe inside

This does not lock or unlockthe fuelfillerflap.

Locking/unlockingthevehicle with KEY‐LESS-GO
RequirementsRThe SmartKeyis outsidethevehicle.
RThe distance betweenthe SmartKeyandthevehicle does notexceed 3ft(1 m).
RThe driver's door andthe door at whichthedoor handle is used are closed.
Tounlockthevehicle:touchthe inner sur‐face ofthe door handle.
Tolockthevehicle:touch sensor surface1or2.
Convenience closing:touchrecessed sen‐sor surface2untilthe closing procedure iscomplete.

Ifyou openthe trunk lid from outside it is auto‐matically unlocked.
Problems with KEYLESS-GO

Activating/deactivating the automatic lock‐ingfeature

Inthefollowing situations,there is a danger ofbeing locked out whenthe function is activated:
RWhilethevehicle is beingtowstarted/pushed.
RThevehicle is beingtested onthe dynamom‐eter.
Locking/unlockingthe driver's door withtheemergencykey
Ifyou wishtolockthevehicle entirely usingthe emergencykey,first pressthe buttonforlocking fromthe inside whilethe driver'sdoor is open. Then proceedtolockthe driv‐er's door usingthe emergencykey.
Insertthe emergencykey asfar as it will gointo opening1inthe cover.
Pull and holdthe door handle.
Pullthe cover onthe emergencykey asstraight as possibleawayfromthevehicleuntil itreleases.
Releasethe door handle.

Carefully pressthe cover ontothe lock cylin‐der until it engages and is seatedfirmly.
Trunk
Openingthe trunk lid
\nDANGERRisk ofexhaustgas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonousexhaustgases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaustgases can enterthevehicle interior ifthetrunk lid is open whenthe engine isrunning,especially ifthevehicle is in motion.
Always switch offthe engine beforeopeningthe trunk lid.
Never drive withthe trunk lid open.
NOTEDamagetothe trunk lidbyobsta‐cles abovethevehicle
The trunk lid swings upwards when it isopened.
Therefore, make surethatthere is suffi‐cient clearance abovethe trunk lid.
You havethefollowing optionsfor openingthe trunk lid:
Pullthe trunk lid handle.
Pull trunk lidremoteoperating switch1.

Vehicles with trunk lid convenience clos‐ingfeature:With the trunk lidstopped in anintermediate position, pull it upwards andrelease it as soon as it beginstoopen.With the trunk lid opening heightrestrictionactivated, manually pullthestopped trunk lidupwards.
Vehicles with trunk lid convenience closingfeature:If an objectrestrictsthe trunk lid duringthe automatic opening process, obstacle detec‐tion willstopthe trunk lid. The obstacle detec‐tion function is only an aid and is not a substi‐tuteforyour attentiveness.
Closingthe trunk lid
\nWARNINGRisk of injuryfrom unsecureditems inthevehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not securedor not secured sufficiently,theycould slip,tipover or bethrown around andthereby hitvehicle occupants.
There is arisk of injury,particularly intheevent of sudden braking or a suddenchangein direction.
Alwaysstowobjects in such awaythattheycannot bethrown around.
Beforethe journey,secure objects, lug‐gageor loads against slipping or tippingover.
Comply withthe loading guidelines whenyou areloadingthevehicle.
\nWARNINGRisk of becoming trappedduring automatic closing ofthe trunk lid
Parts ofthe body could become trapped dur‐ing automatic closing ofthe trunk lid. More‐over,people, e.g.children, may bestandinginthe closing area or may enterthe closingarea duringthe closing process.
Make surethat nobody is inthe vicinityofthe closing area duringthe closingprocess.
Use one ofthefollowing optionstostopthe closing process:

Inthese situations in particular,thereversingfunction cannot prevent someone being trap‐ped.
When closing, makesurethat no bodyparts are inthe closing area.
If someone is trapped, use one ofthefollowing options:RPressthe

When makingthe kicking movement, make surethatyourfeetarefirmly onthe ground,other‐wiseyou could loseyour balance, e.g. on ice.
Requirements
RThe SmartKeyis behindthevehicle.
RStand at least12in (30 cm)awayfromthevehicle while performingthe kicking move‐ment.
RDo not come into contact withthe bumperwhile makingthe kicking movement.
RDo not carryoutthe kicking movementtooslowly.
RThe kicking movement must betowardsthevehicle and back again.
1Detectionrange ofthe sensors
If several consecutive kicking movements arenot successful,waitten seconds.
System limitations
The system may be impaired or may not functionif:
RSnow or dirt, e.g. fromroad salt, coversthesensor area.
RThe kicking movement is made using a pros‐thetic leg.
The trunk lid could be opened or closed uninten‐tionally, inthefollowing situations:
RA person's arms or legs are moving inthesensor detectionrange, e.g. when polishingthevehicle or picking up objects.
RObjects are moved or placed behindthevehi‐cle, e.g.tensioningstraps or luggage.
RClampingstraps,tarps orother coverings arepulledoverthe bumper.
RA protective mat with a lengthreachingoverthe trunk sill down intothe detectionrangeofthe sensors is used.
RThe protective mat is not secured correctly.
RWorkis being undertaken onthe trailer hitch,on trailers orrear bicycleracks.
Deactivate KEYLESS-GO (page 65) or donot carrythe SmartKeyaboutyour person insuch situations.
Switching separate trunk locking on or off
Ifyou centrally unlockthevehicle while separatelocking is activated,the trunk willremain locked.

If suddenly snapped back,the inertiareelmay be damaged.
Always movetheroller sun blindbyhand.
