Adaptive Highbeam Assist automatically switches
between the following types of light:
= Low beam
= High beam
At speeds greater than 19 mph (30 km/h):
= If no other road users are detected, high beam
will switch on automatically.
The high beam will switch oM automatically in the
following cases:
= At speeds below 16 mph (25 km/h)
= If other road users are detected
= If street lighting is suPcient\bThe system\bs optical sensor is located behind
the windshield near the overhead control
panel.

Turn the light switch to the X position.Switch on the high beam using the combina-
tion switch.
If Adaptive Highbeam Assist is activated,

beam in good time.Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus cannot take into
account road, weather or traPc conditions.
Detection may be restricted in the following
cases:
= in poor visibility, e.g. fog, heavy rain or snow
= if there is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus is only an aid. You
are responsible for adjusting the vehicle\bs lighting to the prevailing light, visibility and traPc condi-
tions.
Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus automatically
switches between the following types of light:
= Low beam
= Partial high beam
= High beam
= ULTRA RANGE Highbeam
ULTRA RANGE Highbeam increases the bright-
ness of the cone of light to the legally permitted
maximum.
Partial high beam does not include other road
users in the high beam area. It does not dazzle them but enables full high-beam illumination for
the driver apart from the excluded vehicles. Highly
reOective signs are also illuminated with reduced
brightness.
At speeds below 16 mph (25 km/h) or when
there is suPcient street lighting:
= Partial high beam and high beam will be
switched oM automatically.
At speeds greater than 19 mph (30 km/h): = If no other road users are detected, high beam
will switch on automatically.
= If other road users are detected, partial high
beam will switch on automatically.
at speeds below 25 mph (40 km/h):
= The ULTRA RANGE Highbeam will switch oM

At speeds above 31 mph (50 km/h):
= If no other road users are detected, the road is
straight and it is not raining heavily, the ULTRA
RANGE Highbeam will be switched on auto-
matically.
= If other road users are detected, partial high
beam will switch on automatically.
= If highly reOective signs are detected, ULTRA
RANGE Highbeam will be switched oM auto-
matically.\bThe system\bs optical sensor is located behind the windshield near the overhead control
panel.

Ambient Light
Setting the color
Select Color.Select Monochrome or Multi-color .Set the desired color or color scheme.
Adjusting the brightness
Select Brightness .Adjust the brightness.\bDepending on the ambient light, the ambient
lighting will automatically switch between day and night modes.
Activating the brightness for zones
Select Brightness .Switch oM Link Zones .
The Direct , Indirect and Accents zones can be
set separately.
Activating eMects
&WARNING Risk of an accident despite
activated eMects of ambient lighting and
active ambient lighting
To use the Warning Assistance eMects, the
respective functions must be activated in the
driver assist menu.

Operating feedback eMects
= Climate : If changes are made to the tempera-
ture setting in the vehicle, the color of the
ambient lighting will change brieOy.
= Interior/Exterior Lighting : When you get into
the vehicle, a special color animation will play.
Warning assistance eMects
= Warning When Exiting : If an object is detected
in the blind spot while you are getting out of the vehicle, the ambient lighting in the aMec-
ted door will Oash red.

= Speed Limit Assist : In vehicles with active
ambient lighting, the ambient lighting behind the steering wheel will Oash red when the per-
missible speed is exceeded.

Windshield wiper and windshield washer system

Hold the wiper arm with one hand. With the
other hand, turn the wiper blade away from
the wiper arm in the direction of arrow 1 as
far as it will go.Press release button 2.Remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm in
the direction of arrow 3.Installing the wiper bladesPush the new wiper blade into the wiper arm
in the direction of arrow 1 until release knob
2 engages.Make sure that the wiper blade is seated cor-
rectly.Fold the wiper arms back onto the windshield.Switch on the vehicle.Press the

Remove protective Nlm 1 from the mainte-
nance display.
When the color of the maintenance display
changes from black to yellow, the wiper blades
should be replaced.
Mirrors
Operating the outside mirrors
&WARNING Risk of accident due to adjust-
ing the vehicle settings while the vehicle is
in motion
You could lose control of the vehicle in the fol-
lowing situations in particular:
= If you adjust the driver\bs seat, the head
restraint, the steering wheel or the mirror while the vehicle is in motion
= If you fasten your seat belt while the vehi-
cle is in motion
Before starting the vehicle: in particular,
adjust the driver\bs seat, head restraint,
steering wheel and mirror, and fasten
your seat belt.&WARNING Risk of accident due to mis-
judgment of distance when using the
front-passenger mirror
The outside mirror on the front passenger side
reOects objects on a smaller scale. The
objects in view are in fact closer than they appear.
Therefore, always look over your shoul-
der to check the actual distance between you and the road users traveling
behind you.136Light and visibility

Adjusting the outside mirrorsUse button 2 or 4 to select the desired mir-
ror.Use button 1 to adjust the position of the
selected mirror.
Folding the outside mirrors in/out (vehicles with electrically folding outside mirrors)
BrieOy press button 3.\bIf the battery has been disconnected or has
discharged, the outside mirrors must be
moved brieOy using button 3. Only then will
the automatic mirror folding function work
properly.
Engaging the outside mirrors
If an outside mirror has been forcibly disengaged,
proceed as follows.
Vehicles without electrically folding outside
mirrors: manually move the outside mirror into
the correct position.Vehicles with electrically folding outside mir-
rors: press and hold button 3.
You will hear a click and the mirror will audibly engage. The outside mirror will now be set to
the correct position.
Automatic anti-glare mirrors function
&WARNING Risk of acid burns and poison-
ing due to the anti-glare mirror electrolyte
Electrolyte may escape if the glass in an auto-
matic anti-glare mirror breaks.
The electrolyte is hazardous to health and cau-
ses irritation. It must not come into contact
with your skin, eyes, respiratory organs or
clothing or be swallowed.If you come into contact with electrolyte, observe the following:
= Immediately rinse the electrolyte
from your skin with water and seek
medical attention.
= If electrolyte comes into contact with
your eyes, immediately rinse them
thoroughly with clean water and seek
medical attention.
= If the electrolyte is swallowed, imme-
diately rinse your mouth out thor-
oughly. Do not induce vomiting. Seek
medical attention immediately.
= Immediately change out of clothing
which has been contaminated with
electrolyte.
= If an allergic reaction occurs, seek
medical attention immediately.Light and visibility137

The inside rearview mirror and the outside mirroron the driver\bs side will automatically go into anti-
glare mode if light from a headlamp hits the sen- sor on the inside rearview mirror.
System limits
The system will not go into anti-glare mode if:
= The vehicle is switched oM.
= Reverse gear is engaged.
= The interior lighting is switched on.
Front-passenger outside mirror parking position
function
The parking position makes parking easier.
The front-passenger outside mirror will swivel downwards in the direction of the rear wheel on
the front passenger\bs side when:
= The parking position is stored (  page 138).
= The front-passenger mirror is selected.
= Reverse gear is engaged.
The front-passenger outside mirror will move back
to its original position when:
= You shis the transmission to another transmis-
sion position.
= You are traveling at a speed greater than
9 mph (15 km/h).
= You press the button for the outside mirror on
