sumption
The vehicle will use more fuel than usual in
the following conditions:
! at very low temperatures
! in urban traffic
! on short trips
! when to wing a trailer
! in mountainous terrain
The consumption figures were determined
in acco rdan ce with EUDirec tive
19 99 /1 00/E C under the following
test conditions:
! Urban driv ing conditions are simulated
by frequent pulling awayand stopping.
! Extra-urban dr iving con ditions are sim-
ulated by accelerating from 0 to
120 km /husing all gears.
! Total fuel consumption is cal culated
us ing a weighting of approximately 37%
for urb andriving and approxi mately
63% for extra-urban driv ing. i
The act ual consumption value sof your vehi-
cl ema y deviate from the values given depending
on:
! Driving style
! Road and traffic conditions
! Environmental influences
! Vehicle's operating state
Mercedes-Benz isconstantly updating its
vehicles to the state of the art. Depending
on when the Owner's Manual went to print,
it may be that the current consumption val-
ues are lower than those listed inthe fol-
lowing table. The current consumption
val ues can be found in the COC papers (EC
CE RTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY). These pa-
pers are supplied when the veh icle is deliv-

The following values indicate the various
total cooling system capacities.
Co rrosion in hibitorand antifreeze
concentration for antifreeze protection down to –45 °C (55%)
The coolant is a mixture of water, corro-
sion inhibitor and antifreeze. It performs
the following functions in the coo
ling sys-
tem:
! Anti-corrosion protection
! Antifreeze protection
! Raising the boiling point !
Always use a suitable coolan t–even in
co untri eswith high temperature s.
If you do not do so, the cooling system will not be
suffici ently protected from corrosion, and the
boiling point wil lbe too low. If antifreeze
/corrosion inhibitor is present
in the correct concentration, the boiling
point of the coolant will be around 130 °C. Coolant

Service products and capacities
The antifreeze and corrosion inhibitor con-
centration in the cooling system should:
! be at least 50%. This will pro tect the
cool ing sy stem against freezing down
to approximately –37 °C.
! not exceed 55% (antifreeze protection
down to –45 °C), since the heat is then
not dissipated as effectively.
If the vehicle has lost coolant, top it up with
equal parts of water and an antifreeze and
corrosion inhibitor. Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you use an antifreeze and cor-
rosion inhibitor which has been approved
for Mercedes-Benz.
! The co oling system has a permanent supply
which must be renewed after 15 years or
250,000 km at the most.
Merc edes-Be nzrecommends that you use an an-
tifreeze and cor rosion inhibitor which has been
appr oved for Mercedes-Benz. Over a period of time, the brake fluid ab-
sorbs moisture from the air; this reduces
its boiling point.
i
There is usually a notice in the engine com-
partment to remind you when the next brakeflu-
id change is due. The windscreen washer reservoir holds
approximately
3litres on all models with
aw indscreen washe rsystem. On models
with a heated windscreen washer fluid res-
ervoir ora headlamp cleaning system*, the
re servoir holds 6litres.
The head lamp cleaning system* and the
windscreen washer system have a com-
mon supply from the windscreen washer
fl uid reservoir.
6 Fill the windscreen washer fluid reser-
voirwith a solution of water and wind-
screen washer concentrate. Adapt the
mix ing ratio to sui tthe outsi detemper-
atures.
The windscreen wipers leave no marks.
The headlamp cleaning system and the
windscreen washer system do not
freeze. Brake fluid
G
Riskofaccident If the boiling
point of the brake fluid is too
low, vapour pockets may fo rmin the brake
system when the brak esare applied hard
(e.g. when driving dow nhill). This would im-
pair braki ngefficiency.
Have the brake fluid renewed every
tw oy ears. Windscreen washer sys
tem G
Riskof fire Winds
creen washer concentrate is highly
fla mm able. Fire, naked fl ames and smoking
are prohibited when you are handling wind-
sc reen was herc oncentrate. 209en_d2.boo Seite
