General notes

The socketscan be used for accessories with
amaximum draw of 180W(15 A).
Accessories include such items as lamps or
chargers for mobile phones.
If you use the socketsfor long periods when
the engine is switched off, the battery may
discharge.
iAn emergencycut-out ensures that the
on-board voltage does not drop too low. If
the on-board voltage is too low, the power
to the socketsisautomatically cut. This
ensures that there is sufficient power to
start the engine.

System self-test
After you have switched on the ignition, the
system carries outaself-diagnosis.
Amalfunction in thesystem has been
detected if oneofthefollowingoccurs:
RThe indicator lamp in theSOS button does
notcomeonduringthesystem self-test.
RThe indicator lamp in theRoadside
Assistancebuttondoes not light up during
self-diagnosis of the system.
RThe indicator lamp in theMB Info call
button does not light up during self-
diagnosis of the system.
RThe indicator lamp in one or more of the
following buttonscontinues to light up red
after the system self-diagnosis:
-SOS button
-Roadside Assistance call button
-MB Info call button
Rafter the system self-diagnosis, the

Ifamalfunction is indicated as outlined
above, the system may not operate as
expected. In the event of an emergency, help

General notes
An emergency call is dialed automatically if
an air bag or Emergency Tensioning Device is
triggered.
iYou cannot end an automatically
triggered emergency call yourself.
An emergency call can alsobeinitiated
manually.
As soon as the emergency call has been
initiated, the indicator lamp in the SOS button
flashes. The multifunction display shows the
Connecting Callmessage.
The audio outputismuted.
Once the connection has been made, the
Call Connectedmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
All important information on the emergency
is transmitted, for example:
RCurrent location of the vehicle (as
determined by the GPS system)
RVehicle identification number
RInformation on the severity of the accident
Shortly after the emergency call has been
initiated,avoice connection is automatically
established between the Mercedes-Benz
Customer Assistance Center and the vehicle
occupants.
RIf the vehicle occupants respond, the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center attempts to get more information
on the emergency.
RIf there is no response from the vehicle
occupants, an ambulance is immediately
sent to the vehicle.
If no voice connection can be established to
the response center, the system was unable
to initiate an emergency call. This can occur
for instance if the relevant mobile phone
network is not available. The indicator lamp
in the SOS button flashes continuously.
TheCall Failedmessage appears in the
multifunction displayand must be confirmed.
In this case, summon assistance by other
means.
Making an emergency call
GWARNING
It can be dangerous to remain in the vehicle,
even if you have pressed the SOS button in an
emergency if:
Ryou see smoke inside or outside of the
vehicle, e.g. if there isafire after an
accident
Rthe vehicle is onadangerous section of
road
Rthe vehicle is not visible or cannot easilybe
seen by other road users, particularly when
dark or in poor visibility conditions
There isarisk of an accident and injury.
Leave the vehicle immediately in this or
similar situations as soon as it is safe to do
so. Move toasafe location along with other
vehicle occupants. In such situations, secure
the vehicle in accordance with national
regulations, e. g. withawarning triangle.
XTo initiate an emergency call
manually:press coverbriefly to open.
XPress SOS buttonbriefly.
The indicator lamp in SOS button
flashes until the emergency call is
concluded.
XWait foravoice connection to the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center.
XAfter the emergency call, close cover.
iIf the mobile phone network is
unavailable, mbrace will not be able to
make the emergency call. If you leave the

vehicleimmediatelyafter pressing the SOS
button, you willnot know whethermbrace
placed the emergency call. In this case,
always summon assistance by other
means.
Roadside Assistance button
XPress Roadside Assistance button.
This initiatesacall to the Mercedes-Benz
Customer Assistance Center. The indicator
lamp in Roadside Assistance button
flashes while the call is active. The
multifunction display shows the
Connecting Callmessage. The audio
output is muted.
Ifaconnection can be made, theCall
Connectedmessage appears in the
multifunction display.
Ifamobile phone network and GPS reception
are available, the system transfers data to the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center,
for example:
RCurrent location of the vehicle
RVehicle identification number
iThe COMAND display indicates thatacall
is active. Duringthe call, you can changeto
the navigation menu by pressingthe NAVI
button on COMAND,for example.
Voice output is not available.
Avoice connection is established between
the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center and the vehicle occupants.
From the vehicle remote malfunction
diagnosis, the Mercedes-Benz Customer
Assistance Center can ascertain the nature of
the problem (Ypage 297).
The Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center either sendsaqualified Mercedes-
Benz technician or arranges for your vehicle
to be transported to the nearest authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center. You may be charged
for services such as repair work and/or
towing.
Further details are available in your mbrace
manual.
iThe system has not been able to initiate
aroadside assistance call, if:
Rthe indicator lamp for Roadside
Assistance call buttonis flashing
continuously.
Rno voice connection to the Mercedes-
Benz Customer Assistance Center was
established.
This may be because the corresponding

Call priority
When service calls areactive, e.g.Roadside
Assistance or MB Info calls, an emergency
call can still be initiated. In this case, an
emergencycall will take priority and override
all other active calls.
The indicator lamp of the respective button
flashes until the call is ended. An emergency
call can only be terminated by the Mercedes-
Benz Customer Assistance Center.
All other calls can be ended by pressing:
Rthebutton on the multifunction
steeringwheel
Ror the corresponding COMAND button for
endingatelephone call
iWhenacall is initiated, the audio system
is muted. The mobile phone is no longer
connected to COMAND. However, if you
want to use your mobile phone, do so only
when the vehicle is stationary and inasafe
location.
Downloading destinations in COMAND
Downloading destinations
Destination Download gives you access to a
data bank with over 15 million Points of
Interest (POIs). These can be downloaded on
the navigation system in your vehicle. If you
know the destination,the address can be
downloaded. Alternatively, you can obtain the
location of Points of Interest (POIs)/
important destinationsinthe vicinity.
Furthermore, you can download routes with
up to 20 way points.
You are prompted to confirm route guidance
to the address entered.

Route Assistance
Thisservice is part of the mbrace PLUS
Packageand cannotbepurchased
separately.
iYou can also use the Route Assistance
function if your vehicle is not equipped with
anavigation system.
Within the framework of this service, you
receiveaprofessional and reliable form of
navigation support without having to leave
your vehicle.
The customer servicerepresentativefinds a
suitable route depending on your vehicle's
currentposition and the desired destination.
You will then be guided live through the
current route section.
Search&Send
General notes
iTo use "Search&Send", your vehicle
must be equipped with mbrace and a
navigation system. You must also have an
mbrace servicesubscription.
"Search&Send" isadestination entry
service.Adestination address which is found
on Google Maps®can be transferred via
mbrace directly to your vehicle's navigation
system.
Specifying and sending the destination
address
XGo to the website http://
www.maps.google.com and enter a
destination address intothe entry field.
XTo send the destination address to the
e-mail address of your mbrace
account:click on the corresponding
button.
iExample:
If you select 'Sendtovehicle' and then
'Mercedes-Benz', the destination address
will be sent to your vehicle.
XWhen the "Send" dialog window appears:
In the relevant field, enter the e-mail
address which you specified when
activating your mbrace account.
XClick "Send".
iInformation on specific commands such
as "Address entry" or "Send" can be found
on the website.
Calling up destination addresses
XSwitchonthe ignition.
The destination address is loaded intothe
vehicle's navigation system.
Adisplay message appears, asking
whether navigation should be started.
XSelectYesby sliding and turning
 the COMAND controller and confirm
with.
The system calculates the routeand
subsequently starts the routeguidance
withtheaddress entered.
iIf you selectNo,theaddress can be saved
in theaddress book.
iIf you have sentmorethanone
destination address,eachindividual
destination must be confirmed separately.

iDestinationaddresses are loaded in the
same order as the order in which they were
sent.
Please notethe following if you have
multiple Mercedes-Benz vehicles with
mbrace and activembrace accounts:
if multiple vehicles are registered under the
same e-mail address, the destination will
be sent to all the vehicles.
Vehicle remote opening
You can use the vehicle remoteopeningifyou
have unintentionally locked your vehicle and
areplacementSmartKey is not available.The
vehicle can be opened by the Mercedes-Benz
Customer AssistanceCenter.
The vehicle can be immediately opened
remotely within four days of the ignition being
turned off. After this time, the remote
unlocking may be delayed by 15 to
60 minutes. After 30 days, the vehicle can no
longer be opened remotely.

The remoteclosing feature can be used when
you have forgotten to lock the vehicle and you
are no longer nearby. The vehicle can then be
locked by the Mercedes-Benz Customer
Assistance Center.
The vehicle can be immediately remotely
locked within four days of the ignition being
turned off. After this time, the remoteclosing
may be delayed by 15 to 60 minutes. After
30 days the vehicle can no longer be closed
remotely.

Stolen vehicle recovery service
If your vehicle has been stolen:
XNotify the police.
The police will issueanumbered incident
report.
XThis number will be forwarded to the
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center together with your PIN.
The Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center then tries to locate the system. The
Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance
Center contacts you and the local law
enforcement agency if the vehicle is
located. However, only the law
enforcement agency is informed of the
location of the vehicle.
iIf the anti-theft alarm system is activated
for longer than 30 seconds,the Mercedes-
Benz Customer Assistance Center is
automatically informed.
Vehicle remote malfunction diagnosis
With the vehicle remote malfunction
diagnosis (Vehicle Health Check), the
Customer Assistance center can provide
improved support for problems with your
vehicle. During an existing call, vehicle data
is transferred to the Customer Assistance
center. The customer service representative
can use the received data to decide what kind
of assistance is required. You are then, for
example, guided to the nearest authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center orarecovery vehicle
is called.
If vehicle data needs to be transferred during
an MB Info call oraRoadside Assistance call,
this is initiated by the Customer Assistance
center. You will see theRoadside
Assistance Connectedmessage in the
COMAND display.Ifthe vehicle remote
malfunction diagnosis can be started, the
Request for vehicle diagnosis
received. Start vehicle diagnosis?
message appears in the display.
XConfirm the message withYes.
XWhen theVehicle Diagnosis Please
Start Ignitionmessage appears, turn
the SmartKey to position2in the ignition
lock (Ypage 147).
XWhen thePlease follow the
instructionsreceivedbyphoneand
move your vehicle toasafe
position.message appears, follow the
customer service representative's
instructions.
The message in the displaydisappears.
If you selectCancel,the vehicle remote
malfunction diagnosis is canceled
completely.
The vehicle operating state check begins.
You will see theVehicle diagnosis
activated.message.
When the diagnosis is completed, the
Transfer vehicle diagnostics data
(Voice connection may be
interrupted during data transfer.)
message appears. The vehicle data can now
be sent to the Customer Assistancecenter.
XPressOKto confirm the message.
The voice connection with the Customer
Assistancecenter is terminated.
You will see theVehicle Diagnosis:
Transferring data...message.
The vehicle data is sent to the Customer
Assistancecenter.
Depending on what the customer service
representative agreed with you, the voice
connection is re-established after the transfer
is complete. If necessary, you will be
contacted atalater time by another means,
e.g. by e-mail or phone.
Further functions of the vehicle remote
malfunction diagnosis include, for example:

Downloading routes
Downloading routes allows you to transfer
and save predefined routes in the navigation
system. To do this, an SD memory card must
be inserted into the COMAND system. If no
SD memory card is inserted, you must insert
the card into the card slot on the COMAND
system before saving.
Aroute can be prepared and sent either by a
customer service representative or via the
mbrace portal on the Internet.
Each route can include up to 20 way points.
Oncearoute has been received by the
navigation system, you will see the<route
name>hasbeensavedtomemorycard.
Do you want to start route
guidance?message in the COMAND display.
The route is saved to the SD memory card.
XTo startrouteguidance:selectYes.
An overview of the route is shown in the
display.
iIf you selectNo,the saved route can be
called up later via the navigation menu.
XSelectStart.
Route guidance is started.
iDownloaded and saved data can be called
up again in COMAND.
You can find further information in the
separate COMAND Operating Instructions.
Speed alert
You can define the upper speed limit, which
must not be exceeded by the vehicle. If this
selected speed is exceeded by the vehicle, a
message will be sent to the Customer
Assistance center. The Customer Assistance
center then forwards this information to you.
You can select the way in which you receive
this information beforehand. Possible options
include text message, e-mail or an automated
call.
The data which is sent to the Customer
Assistance Center contains the following
information:
Rthe location where the speed limit was
exceeded
Rthe time at which the speed limit was
exceeded
Rthe selected speed limit which was
exceeded
Geo fencing
Geo fencing allows you to select areas which
the vehicle should not enter or leave. You will
be informed if the vehicle crosses the
boundaries of the selected areas. You can
select the way in which you receive this
information beforehand. Possible options
include text message, e-mail or an automated
call.
The area can be determined as eitheracircle
orapolygon withamaximum of ten corners.
You can specify up to ten areas
simultaneously. Different settings are
possible for each area.
USA only: these settings can be called up
under &#34;Owners Online&#34; at http://
www.mbusa.com.
Alternatively, you can trigger an MB Info call
and inform the customer service
representative that you wish to activate geo
fencing.
Currently inactive areas can be activated by
text message.
