Displaying the range and current fuel
consumption
XPress the\norbutton on the
steeringwheel to select theTripmenu.
XPress theorbutton to select the
currentfuel consumption (not for AMG
vehicles) and the approximate range.
The approximate range that can be covered
depends on the fuel level and your current
driving style. If there is onlyasmall amount
of fuel left in the fuel tank,the display shows
avehicle being refueledinstead of the
range.

When theSurround Lightingfunction is
activated, the light cone and the area
around the vehicle are displayedinred in

Deactivating delayed switch-off of the
exterior lighting temporarily:
XBefore leaving the vehicle, turn the
SmartKey to position0in the ignition lock.
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock.
The exterior lighting delayed switch-off is
deactivated.
Delayed switch-off of the exterior lighting is
reactivated the next time you start the
engine.
If you have activated theSurround
Lightingfunction and the light switch is set
to\r,the following functions are activated
when it is dark:
RSurround lighting:the exterior lighting
remains lit for 40 seconds after unlocking
with the SmartKey. If you start the engine,
the surround lighting is switched off and
the automatic headlamp mode is activated
(Ypage 117).
RExterior lighting delayed switch-off:the
exterior lighting remains lit for 60seconds
after the engine is switched off. If you close
all the doors and the trunklid, the exterior
lighting goes off after5seconds.

Activating/deactivating the acoustic
locking verification signal
If you switch on theAcousticLockfunction,
an acoustic signal sounds when you lock the
vehicle.

Introduction
General notes
Display messagesappear in themultifunction display.
Display messageswithgraphic displays may be shown in simplified forminthe Operator's
Manual and may differ from the messages shown in the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the displaymessages and follow the additional notes in
this Operator's Manual.
Certain displaymessages are accompanied by an audible warning tone oracontinuous tone.
When the ignition is switched off, all displaymessages are deleted, apart from some high-
priority displaymessages. Once the causes of the high-priority displaymessages have been
rectified, the corresponding displaymessages are also deleted.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on:
RHOLD function (Ypage 186)
RParking (Ypage 167)
Hiding display messages
XPress the orbutton on the steering wheel to hide the displaymessage.
The displaymessage is cleared.
The multifunction displayshows high-priority displaymessages in red. Some high-priority
displaymessages cannot be hidden.
The multifunction displayshows these messages continuously until the causes for the
messages have been remedied.
Message memory
The on-board computer saves certain displaymessages in themessage memory.You can
call up the display messages:

If there are display messages, the multifunction display shows2Messages,for example.

The front-passenger air bag and front-passenger knee bag are
deactivated during thejourney, although:

passenger seat
If additional forces are applied to theseat,thesystem may
interpret theoccupant's weight as lowerthan it actually is.
GWARNING
The front-passenger front air bag and front passenger knee bag
may not be triggered in the event of an accident.
There is an increased risk of injury.
XPull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible, paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
XSecure the vehicle against rolling away (Ypage 167).
XSwitch the ignition off.
XHave the occupant get out of the vehicle.
XKeep the seat unoccupied, close the front-passenger door and
switch on the ignition.
XObserve the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp in the
center console and the multifunction displayand check the
following:
Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
Rthe PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp must light up and
remain lit. If the indicator lamp is on, OCS has disabled the front-
passenger air bag and front-passenger knee bag (Ypage 47).
RtheFront Passenger Airbag Enabled See Operator's
ManualorFront Passenger Airbag Disabled See
Operator's Manualdisplaymessages must not be shown in
the multifunction display.
XWait foraperiod of at least 60 seconds until the necessary
system checkshave been completed.
XMake sure that the displaymessages do not appearinthe
multifunction display.
If these conditionsare fulfilled,the front-passenger seat can be
occupied again. Whether the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp remains lit or goes out depends on how OCS classifies the
occupant.
If the conditionsare not fulfilled,the system is not operating
correctly.

enabled duringthe journey, even though:
Rachild,asmall adult or an object weighingless than the
system's weight threshold is located on the front-passenger
seat
or
Rthe front-passenger seat is unoccupied
The system may detect objectsorforces applying additional
weight on the seat.
GWARNING
The front-passenger front air bag and front passenger knee bag
may be triggeredunintentionally.
There is an increased risk of injury.
XPull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible,paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
XSecure the vehicle against rollingaway (Ypage 167).
XSwitch the ignition off.
XOpen the front-passenger door.
XRemove the child and the child restraint system fromthe front-
passenger seat.
XMake sure that there are no objectsonthe seat adding to the
weight.
The system may otherwise detect the additional weight and
interpret the seat occupant's weight as greater than it actually
is.
XKeep the seat unoccupied, close the front-passenger door and
switch on the ignition.
XObserve the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp in the
center console and the multifunction displayand check the
following:
Seat unoccupied and ignition switched on:
Rthe PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp must light up and
remain lit. If the indicator lamp is on, OCS (Occupant
Classification System) has disabled the front-passenger air bag
and front-passenger knee bag (Ypage 47).
