When you operate or program the garage door
with the integrated garage door opener,
persons in the range of movement of the
garage door can become trapped or struck by
the garage door. There is arisk of injury.
When using the integrated garage door
opener, always make sure that nobody is
within the rang eofmovemen tofthe garage
door. G

Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbo nmonoxide. Inhaling
these exhaust gases leads to poisoning. There
is ar isk of fatal injury. Therefore never leave
the engine runnin ginenclosed spaces
without sufficient ventilation.
The HomeLink ®
garage door opener
integrated in the rear-view mirror allows you
to operate up to three different door and gate
systems.
Use the integrated garage door opener only
on garage doors that:
R have safety stop and reverse features and
R meet current U.S. federal safety standards
When programming agarage door opener,
park the vehicle outside the garage.
i Certain garage door drives are
incompatible with the integrated garage
door opener. If you have difficulty
programming the integrated garage door opener, contact an authorized Mercedes-
Benz Center.

X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the

Press and hold one of buttons 0010to0021 on
the integrated garage door opener.
After ashort time, indicator lamp 001Alights
up yellow.
i Indicator lamp 001Alights up yellow as soon
as button 0010,0024or0021 is programmed for
the first time. If the selected button has
already been programmed, indicator
lamp 001Awill only light up yellow after ten
seconds have elapsed.
X Release button 0010,0024or0021.I ndicator
lamp 001Aflashes yellow.
X Point garage door remot econtrol 001E
towards buttons 0010to0021 on the rear-view
mirror at adistanc eof2to8i nches (5 to
20 cm).
i The required distanc ebetween remote
control 001Eand the integrated garage door
opener depends on the garage door drive
system. Several attempts might be
necessary. You should test every position
for at least 25 seconds before trying
another position.
X Press and hold button 0025on remot econtrol
001E until indicator lamp 001Alights up green.
If indicator lamp 001Alights up green or
flashes, then programming has been
successful.
X Release button 0025on remote control 001Efor
the garage door drive system.
X If indicator lamp 001Alights up red: repeat
the programming procedure for the
corresponding button on the rear-view
mirror. When doing so, vary the distance
between remote control 001Eand the rear-
view mirror.
i If the indicator lamp flashes green after
successful programming, the garage door
system is using arolling code. After
programming, you must synchronize the
garage door opener integrated in the rear-
view mirror with the receiver of the garage
door system. Synchronizing the rolling code

page 299).
Your vehicle must be within reach of the
garage door or exterior gate drive. Make sure
that neither your vehicle nor any persons/
object sare present within the sweep of the
door or gate.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press the program button of the door or
gate drive (see the door or gate drive
operating instructions, e.g. under
"programming of additional remote
controls").
i Usually ,you now have 30seconds to
initiate the next step.
X Press previously programmed button 0010,
0024 or0021 of the integrated garage door
opener until the door closes.
The rolling code synchronization is then
complete.
Notes on programming the remote
control
Canadia nradio frequency laws require a
"break "(or interruption )ofthetransmission
signals after broadcastin gfor afew seconds.
Therefore, these signals may no tlast long
enough for th eintegrate dgarag edoor
opener. The signal is no trecognized during
programming. Comparable with Canadian
law, some U.S.g arage door openers also
feature a"break".

Problems when programming
If you are experiencing problems
programmin gthe integrated garage door
opener on the rear-view mirror, take noteof
the following instructions:
R Check the transmitter frequenc yofgarage
door drive remot econtrol 001E.This can
usually be found on the back of the remote
control.
The integrated garage door opener is
compatible with devices that have units
which operate in the frequency range of
280to4 33MHz.
R Replace the batteries in garage door
remote control 001E.This increases the
likelihood that garage door remote control
001E will transmit astronga nd precis esignal
to the integrated garage door opene rinthe
rear-view mirror.
R When programming, hold remote control
001E at varying distances and angles from the
button that you are programming. Try
various angles at adistance between 2and
12 inches (5to 30 cm) or at the same angle
but at varying distances.
R If another remote control for the same
garage door drive is available, repeat the same programming steps with this remote
control. Before performing these steps,
make sure that new batteries have been
installed in garage door drive remote
control
001E.
R Note that some remote controls only
transmit for alimited amount of time (the
indicator lamp on the remote control goes
out). Press button 0025on remote control
001E again before transmission ends.
R Align the antennac able of the garage door
opener unit. This can improve signal
reception/transmission.
Opening/closing the garage door After it has been programmed, the integrated
garage door opener performs the function of
the garage door system remote control.
Please also read the operating instructions
for the garage door system.
X Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press button 0010,0024or0021 which you have
programmed to operate the garage door.
Garage door system with afixed code:
indicator lamp 001Alights up green.
Garage door system with arolling code:
indicator lamp 001Aflashes green.
i The transmitter will transmit asignal as
long as the button is pressed. The
transmission is halted after amaximum of
ten seconds and indicator lamp 001Alights
up yellow. Press button 0010,0024or0021 again
if necessary.
Clearing the memory X
Turn the SmartKey to position 2in the
ignition lock.
X Press buttons 0010and 0021.
The indicator lamp lights up yellow.
X Press and hold buttons 0010and 0021until the
indicator lamp turns green. Features

Make sure that you clear the memory of
the integrated garage door opener before
selling the vehicle. Compass
Calling up the compass To receive

and the magnetic field zone set.
X Briefly press button 0024.
Compass 0010displays in which compass
direction the vehicle is currently traveling:
N ,
NE ,
E ,
SE ,
S ,
SW ,

NW .

Set your location using the zone maps.
X Press and hold button 0024(Ypage 302) for
approximately three seconds.
The zone currently selected appears in
compass display 0010(Ypage 302).
X To selectt he zone:press
button 0024(Ypage302) repeatedl yuntil the
desired zone is selected.
The zone has been selected whe ncompass
display 0010(Ypage 302) shows the heading.

In order to calibrat ethe compas scorrectly,

in th evicinity of steel structures or high-
voltage transmission lines.
R switch off electrical consumer ssuchast he
climate control, windshield wiper sorrear
window defroster.
R close all door sand th etrunk lid.
X Switch on th eignition.
X Press and hold button 0024(Ypage 302) for
approximately six seconds until the
C symbol appear
sincompas sdisplay 0010
(Y page 302).
X Drive in afull circle at approximately
3m ph (5 km/h )to6mph (10 km/h).
When th ecalibration has successfully been
completed, th ecurren tdirection is shown
in compass display 0010(Ypage 302). Floormats

WARNING
Object sinthe driver's footwell can restric tthe
pedal travel or obstruct adepressed pedal.
The operatin gand road safety of the vehicle
is jeopardized. There is arisk of an accident.
Make sure that all objects in the vehicle are
stowed correctly, and that they cannot enter
the driver's footwell. Install the floormats
securely and as specified in order to ensure
sufficien tclearanc efor the pedals. Do not use
loose floormats. X
Slide the seat backwards.
X To install: place the floormat in the
footwell.
X Press studs 001Aontoretainers 0010.
X To remove: pull the floormat off
retainers 0010.

Hood

WARNING
If the hood is unlatched, it may open up when
the vehicle is in motion and block your view.
There is arisk of an accident.
Never unlatc hthe hood while driving. G
WARNING
When openin gand closin gthe hood, it may
suddenly fall int othe closed position .There is
ar isk of injury to persons within range of
movement of the hood.
Open and close the hood only when no one is
within its range of movement. G
WARNING
Certain components in the engine
compartment, such as the engine, radiator
and parts of the exhaust system, can become
very hot. Working in the engine compartment
poses arisk of injury.
Where possible, let the engine cool down and
touch only the components described in the
following. G
WARNING
Opening the hood when the engine is
overheated or when there is afire in the
engine compartmentc ould expose you to hot
gases or other service products. There is a
risk of injury.
Let an overheated engine cool down before
opening the hood. If there is afire in the
engine compartment, keep the hood closed
and contact the fire department. G
WARNING
The engine compartment contains moving
components. Certain components, such as
the radiator fan, may continue to run or start
again suddenly when the ignition is off. There
is ar isk of injury.
If you need to do any work inside the engine
compartment,
R switch off the ignition
R never reach into the area where there is a
risk of danger from moving components,
such as the fan rotation area
R keep clothin gaway from moving parts G
WARNING
The ignition system and the fuel injection
system work under high voltage. If you touch
components which are under voltage, you
could get an electric shock. There is arisk of
injury.
Never touch components of the ignition
system or fuel injection system when the
ignition is switched on.
Opening the hood G
WARNING
When the hood is open and the windshield
wipers are set in motion ,you can be injured
by the wiper linkage. There is arisk of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
the ignition before opening the hood. 306

Make sure that the windshieldw ipers are
not folded away fro mthe windshield. You
could otherwise damage the windshield
wipers or the hood. X
Make sure that the windshield wipers are
turned off.
X Pull release lever 001Aon the hood.
The hood is released. X
Reach into the gap, pull hood catch
handle 0010up and lift the hood.
If you lift the hood by approximately
15 inches (40c m),the hood is opened and
held open automatically by the gas-filled
strut.
Closing theh ood X
Lower the hood and let it fall from aheight
of approximately 8inche s(20 cm).
X Check that the hood has engaged properly.
If the hood can be raised slightly ,itisnot
properly engaged. Open it again and close
it with alittle more force. Engine oil
General notes Depending on the driving style, the vehicle
consume
supto0.9 US qt (0.8 liters) of oil
over adistanc eof600 miles (1,000 km). The
oil consumption may be higher than this when
the vehicle is new or if you frequently drive at
high engin espeeds.
Depending on the engine, the oil dipstic kmay
be in adifferent location.
When checking th eoil level:
R park th evehicle on aleve lsurface.
R thee ngines hould be switched off for
approximately fiv eminute siftheengin eis
at normal operatin gtem perature.
R if th eengineisn otat normal operating
temperature, e.g .ifthe engine was only
started briefly, wait about 30 minutes
before carrying out the measurement.
Checking the oil level using the oil
dipstick X
Pull oil dipstick 001Aout of the dipstick guide
tube.
X Wipe off oil dipstick 001A.
X Slowly slide oil dipstick 001Ainto the guide
tube to the stop, and take it out again.
If the level is between MIN mark 0024and
MAX mark 0010,the oil level is correct.
X If the oil level has dropped to MIN mark
0024 or below, add 1.1 US qt (1.0 liter) of

Adding engin

WARNING
If engin eoil comes int ocontac twithh ot

Mak esuret hate ngineo il is no tspilled next
to the filler neck. Let the engin ecool down
and thoroughly clean the engin eoil off the
component sbefore starting the engine. H
Environmental note
When adding oil, take care not to spill any. If
oil enters the soil or waterways, it is harmful
to the environment.
! Only use engin eoils and oil filter sthat
have been approved for vehicles with a
servic esystem. You can obtain alist of the
engin eoils and oil filter stested and
approved in accordance with the
Mercedes-Benz Specification sfor Service
Product satany Mercedes-Benz Service
center.
Damage to the engin eorexhaust system is
caused by the following:
R using engin eoils and oil filter sthat have
not been specifically approved for the
servic esystem
R replacing engin eoil and oil filter safter
the interval for replacemen tspecified by
the servic esystem has been exceeded
R using engin eoil additives.
! Do not add too much oil. adding too much
engin eoil can result in damage to the
engin eortot he catalytic converter. Have
excess engin eoil siphoned off. Example: engin
eoil cap
X Turn cap 001Acounter-clockwise and remove
it.
X Add engin eoil.
If the oil level is at or below the MIN mark
on the oil dipstick, add 1.1 US qt (1.0 liter)
of engine oil.
X Replace cap 001Aon the fille rneck and turn
clockwise.
Ensur ethatthe cap locks into place
securely.
X Check the oi llev el agai nwith the oil
dipstick (Y page 307).

Checking coolant level G
WARNING
The engine cooling system is pressurized,
particularly when the engine is warm. When
opening the cap, you could be scalde dbyhot
coolan tspraying out. There is arisk of injury.
Let the engin ecool down before openin gthe
cap. Wear eye and hand protection when
openin gthe cap. Open the cap slowly half a
turn to allow pressure to escape. 308
