The electric parking brake isreleased whenthefollowing conditions are fulfilled:

RThe seat belttongue is inserted intothe seatbelt buckle ofthe driver's seat.
RThe transmission is in position[or^andyou depressthe accelerator pedal oryou
shift from transmission position]to[or^.
RIfthe transmission is in position^,thetrunk lid mustbe closed.

RThe driver's door is closed.

Ifyou leavethevehicle parkedfor longerthanfourweeks,the disconnected battery may bedamagedbydeep discharge.
Ifyou leavethevehicle parkedfor longerthan sixweeks, it may suffer disuse damage.

Standby mode (extension of thestarter bat‐tery's period out of use)
Standby mode function
This function is notavailablefor all models.
Ifstandby mode is activated,thevehicle can beparkedfor anextended period of time withoutlosing power.
Standby mode ischaracterizedbythefollowing:
RThestarter battery is preserved.
RThe maximum non-operational time out ofuse is displayed inthe multimedia systemdisplay.
RThe connectiontoonline services is interrup‐ted.

Ifthefollowing conditions are fulfilled,standbymode can be activated or deactivated usingthemultimedia system:
RThe engine is switched off.
RThe ignition is switched on.

Thestarter battery must bechargedfirst inthefollowing situations:

Driving systems andyourresponsibility
Yourvehicle is equipped with driving systemswhich assistyou in driving, parking and maneu‐veringthevehicle. The driving systems are aidsand do notrelieveyou ofyourresponsibility per‐tainingtoroad traffic law.Pay attentiontothetraffic conditions at all times and intervenewhen necessary. Beaware ofthe limitationsregardingthe safe use ofthese systems.
Function oftheradar sensors
Some driving and driving safety systems useradar sensorstomonitorthe area in front of,behind or nexttothevehicle (depending onthevehicle's equipment).
Depending onthevehicle's equipment,theradarsensors are integrated behindthe bumpersand/or behindthe Mercedesstar.Keeptheseparts free of dirt, ice and slush (→page 360).The sensors must not be covered,forexamplebycycleracks,overhanging loads,stickers,foilorfoilstoprotect againststonechipping. Intheevent of damagetothe bumpers orradiator grill,orfollowing a collision impactingthe bumpers orradiator grill, havethe function oftheradar sen‐sorschecked at aqualified specialistworkshop.The driver assistance system may no longerworkproperly.

Function of ABS (Anti-lock Braking System)
ABSregulatesthe brake pressure in critical driv‐ing situations:
RDuring braking, e.g. at full brake applicationor insufficient tire traction,the wheels areprevented from locking.
RVehiclesteerability while braking is ensured.
If ABS intervenes when braking,you willfeel apulsing inthe brake pedal. The pulsating brake
pedal can be an indication of hazardousroadconditions and can serveas aremindertotakeextra care while driving.
System limitationsRABS is active from speeds of approx. 5mph(8 km/h).
RABS may be impaired or may not function if amalfunction has occurred andtheyel‐low%ABSwarning lamp lights up contin‐uously inthe instrument cluster aftertheengine isstarted.
Function ofBAS (Brake Assist System)
\nWARNINGRisk of an accident causedbya malfunction inBAS (Brake AssistSys‐tem)
IfBAS is malfunctioning,the braking distancein an emergency braking situation isincreased.
Depressthe brake pedal with fullforcein emergency braking situations. ABSpreventsthe wheels from locking.

BAS supportsyour emergency braking situationwith additional brakeforce.
Ifyou depressthe brake pedalquickly,BAS isactivated:
RBAS automaticallybooststhe brake pres‐sure.

The brakes will function as usual onceyoureleasethe brake pedal.BAS is deactivated.
Function of ESP®(ElectronicStability Pro‐gram)
