Please also observethefollowing breaking-innotes:
RIn certain driving and driving safety systems, the sensors adjust automatically while a cer‐tain distance is being driven afterthevehiclehas been delivered or afterrepairs.Full sys‐tem effectiveness is notreached untiltheend ofthisteach-in process.
RBrakepads, brake discs and tiresthat areeither new or havebeenreplaced only ach‐ieveoptimum braking effect and grip afterseveral hundred kilometers of driving. Com‐pensateforthereduced braking effectbyapplying greaterforcetothe brake pedal.
Notes on driving
\nWARNINGRisk of accident duetoobjects inthe driver'sfootwell
Objects inthe driver'sfootwell may impedepedal travel or block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardizesthe operating androadsafety ofthevehicle.
Stowall objects inthevehicle securelysothattheycannotgetintothe driver'sfootwell.
Always installthefloor mats securelyand as prescribed in ordertoensurethatthere is always sufficientroomforthe pedals.
Do not use loosefloor mats and do notplacefloor mats ontop of one another.
\nWARNINGRisk of accident duetounsuitablefootwear
Operation ofthe pedals may berestrictedduetounsuitablefootwear such as:
RShoes with platformsoles
RShoes with high heels
RSlippers
When driving alwayswear suitableshoes in ordertobe abletooperatethepedals safely.
\nWARNINGRisk of accident when switch‐ing offthe ignition when driving
Ifyou switchoffthe ignition while driving, safety functions arerestricted or no longeravailable. This may affectthe powersteeringsystem andthe brakeforce boosting, forexample.
You willthen needtouse considerably moreforcetosteer and brake.
Do not switch offthe ignition while driv‐ing.
\nDANGERRisk offatal injuries duetoexhaustgases
Combustion engines emit poisonousexhaustgases such as carbon monoxide. Inhalingtheseexhaustgases is hazardoustohealthand can leadtopoisoning.
Never leavethe enginerunning in anenclosed space without sufficientventi‐lation.

\nWARNINGRisk of skidding and of anaccident duetoshifting down on slipperyroad surfaces
Ifyou shift down on slipperyroad surfacestoincreasethe engine braking effect, the drivewheels may lose traction.
Do not shift down on slipperyroad sur‐facestoincreasethe engine brakingeffect.
\nDANGERRisk offatal injury duetopoi‐sonousexhaustgases
Ifthetailpipe is blocked or sufficientventila‐tion is not possible, poisonousexhaustgasessuch as carbon monoxide may enterthevehi‐cle. This isthe case ifthevehiclegetsstuckin snow, forexample.
Keepthetailpipe andthe area aroundthevehicle free from snow whentheengine orthestationary heater arerun‐ning.
Open a window onthe windward side ofthevehicletoensure an adequate sup‐ply of fresh air.
\nWARNINGRisk of accident and injuryduetobeing underthe influence of alco‐hol and drugs while driving
Driving when underthe influence of alcoholand/or drugs is anextremelydangerouscombination. Even smallquantities of alcoholor drugs may affectyourreflexes, perceptionand judgment.
The probability of a serious orevenfatal acci‐dent greatly increases ifyou drive whenunderthe influence of alcohol or drugs.
Do not drink alcohol ortakedrugs whiledriving, and do not allow anyonetodrive who has been drinking alcohol ortaking drugs.
\nWARNINGRisk of accident duetothebrake systemoverheating
Ifyou leaveyourfootonthe brake pedalwhen driving, the brake system mayover‐heat.
This increasesthe braking distance andthebrake system mayevenfail.
Never usethe brake pedal as afootrest.
Do not depressthe brake pedal andtheaccelerator pedal atthe same timewhile driving.
NOTEWearing outthe brake liningsbycontinuously depressingthe brake pedal
Do not depressthe brake pedal contin‐uously whilst driving.

Do notwarmupthe engine whilethevehicle isstationary.Pullawayimmedi‐ately.
Avoid high engine speeds and driving atfullthrottle untilthe engine hasreachedits operatingtemperature.
NOTEDamagetothe catalytic converterduetonon-combusted fuel
The engine is notrunning smoothly and ismisfiring.
Non-combusted fuel mayget intothe cata‐lytic converter.
Only depressthe accelerator pedalslightly.
Havethe causerectified immediately ataqualified specialistworkshop.
Limited braking effect on salt-treatedroads:
RDuetosalt build-up onthe brake discs andbrakepads, the braking distance can increaseconsiderably orresult in braking only on oneside
RMaintain a much greater safe distancetothevehicle in front
Toprevent salt build-up:
RBrake occasionally while paying attentiontothe traffic conditions
RCarefully depressthe brake pedal atthe endofthe journey and whenstartingthe nextjourney
