Therefore, swiftly moveyourfootfromthe brake pedaltothe acceleratorpedal. Never attempttoleavethevehi‐cle if it is being heldbyHillStart Assist.

HOLD function
HOLD functionThe HOLD function holdsthevehicle at astand‐still withoutrequiringyoutodepressthe brakepedal, e.g. whilewaiting in traffic.
The HOLD function is only an aid. Theresponsi‐bilityforthevehicle safelystandingstillremainswiththe driver.
System limitationsThe HOLD function is only intendedtoprovideassistance when driving and is not a sufficientmeans of safeguardingthevehicle againstrollingawaywhenstationary.
RThe incline must not be greaterthan 30%.
Activating/deactivating the HOLD function

RIfthe electrics inthe engine compart‐ment,the battery orthe fuses aretam‐pered with or ifthe battery is disconnec‐ted.
Always deactivatethe HOLD functionand securethevehicle againstrollingawaybefore leavingthevehicle.

WhenActive Brake Assist,Active DistanceAssistDISTRONIC orthe HOLD function areactivated,thevehicle brakes autonomouslyin certain situations.

Function ofParking AssistPARKTRONIC
Parking AssistPARKTRONIC is an electronicparking assistance system with ultrasound. Itmonitorsthe area aroundyourvehicle using sixsensors1inthe front bumper and six sensorsintherear bumper.Parking AssistPARKTRONICshowsyouthe distance betweenyourvehicleand a detected obstacle visually and audibly.
Parking AssistPARKTRONIC is onlyan aid. It isnot a substituteforyour attentiontothe sur‐roundings. Theresponsibilityfor safe maneuver‐ing and parkingremains withyou. Make surethatthere are no persons, animals or objects in
the maneuvering area while maneuvering andparking in/exiting parking spaces.
Inthestandard setting, an intermittentwarningtone sounds from a distance of approximately1.0ft(0.3 m)toan obstacle in front and approx‐imately 3.3ft(1.0 m)toan obstacle behind. Acontinuoustone sounds from a distance ofapproximately 0.7ft(0.2 m). UsingtheWarnearlysetting inthe multimedia system,thewarningtonesfor front and side impact protec‐tion can also be settosound at a greater dis‐tance of approximately 3.3ft(1.0 m)(→page196).
TheWarnearlysetting is always active intherear ofthevehicle.
IfParking AssistPARKTRONIC is deactivated,ActiveParking Assist is unavailable.

ActiveParking Assist
Function ofActiveParking AssistActiveParking Assist is an electronic parkingassistance system which uses ultrasound and isautomatically activated duringforward travel.The system is operational at speeds of uptoapproximately 22mph (35 km/h). When alltheconditions are fulfilled,thecsymbol appearsinthe multifunction display andthe system auto‐matically searchesfor and measures parkingspaces on bothsides ofthevehicle parallel andperpendiculartothe direction of travel. IfActiveParking Assist is activated, suitable parkingspaces are displayed inthe multimedia system.Theësymbol appears inthe multifunctiondisplay.The arrowsshow on which side oftheroad free parking spaces are located.
The parking space and, if necessary,the parkingdirection can be selected as desired.ActiveParking Assist calculates a suitablevehicle pathand assistsyou in parking andexitingthe park‐ing space.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:ActiveParking Assistchangesgear, accelerates, brakesandsteersthevehicle.
