or unlock the vehicle
using KEYLESS GO*.
KEYLESS GO* is in standby mode because the vehicle has not
been unlocked for an extended period.

Pull the door handle and then turn the key to position 2in the
ignition lock. KEYLESS-GO* is malfunctioning.
X
Lock/unlock the vehicle using the remote control function of
the key. Point the tip of the key at the driver's door handle from
close range and press the 0036/0037button.
X Have the key checked at aqualified specialist workshop. There is interference from
apowerful source of radio waves.
X Lock/unlock the vehicle as described in the "Opening and clos-
ing in an emergency" section (Y page 249).You have lost
akey. X
Have the key cancelled at aMercedes-Benz Service Centre.
X Report the loss immediately to the vehicle insurers.
X If necessary, have the manual locks changed too. You have lost the emer-
gency key element.

Parking up the vehicle

parked up for longer
than four weeks. The battery can be damaged through exhaustive discharge.

Disconnect the battery (Y page 275) or connect toatrickle

parked up for longer
than six weeks. Damage resulting from non-use may occur if the vehicle is parked
up for long periods.

Visit aqualified specialist workshop and seek advice. Locking/unlocking in an emergency
Emergency key element
If the vehicle can no longer be locked or
unlocked with the key, use the emergency
key element.
If you use the emergency key element to
unlock and open the driver's door or the boot
lid, the anti-theft alarm system* will be trig-
gered (Y page 58).
There are several waystot urn off the alarm:
X Press the 0036or0037 button on the key.
or
X Insert the key into the ignition lock.
or
X Press the Start/Stop button* in the ignition
lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS
GO*. The key must be outside the vehicle. Removing the emergency key element X

If the vehicle can no longer be unlocked cen-

X Remove the emergency key element from

Insert the emergency key element into the
lock of the driver's door as far as it willg o.
X Turn the emergency key element anti-
clockwise to position 004A.
The door is unlocked.
i On right-hand-drive vehicles, turn the
emergency key element clockwise.
X Turn the emergency key element back and
remove it. Locking the vehicle
X Open the driver's door.
X Close the front-passenger door and the
boot lid.
X Press the locking button (Y page 64).
X Check whether the locking knob on the
front-passenger door is still visible. Press
down the locking knob manually,ifn eces-
sary.
X Close the driver's door.
X Remove the emergency key element from
the key (Y page 249). X
Insert the emergency key element into the
lock of the driver's door as far as it willg o.
X Turn the emergency key element clockwise
as far as it willgotop osition004A.
i On right-hand-drive vehicles, turn the
emergency key element anti-clockwise.
X Turn the emergency key element back and
remove it.
X Check whether the doors and the boot lid
are locked. Closing the soft top manually (Cabrio-
let)
If the soft top cannot be closed automatically,
check the following points:
R Is the boot separator engaged
(Y page 160)?
R Is the skibag cover* closed (Y page 160)?
R Are the head restraints on the rear bench
seats extended?
R Is the boot lid closed?
R Is the on-board voltage sufficient?
Start the engine if necessary.
If automatic operation still does not work, the
soft top can be closed manually.
This work must be performed by two persons.
i Closing the soft top manually is acom-
plex, technically demanding process which
requires agreat deal of force. Close the soft
top manually only in extreme emergencies. 250

Risk of injury
Remove wristwatches and any jewellery such
as rings or bracelets. You could otherwis eget
caught, injured and damage the vehicle.
Alwaysg rip the soft top at the indicated grip-
ping points when closing the soft top man-
ually. You could otherwis ebeinjured.
X Depress the parking brake.
X Open the side windows.
X Lower the head restraints (automatically:
(Y page 69) or manually:( Ypage 257)).
X Remove the key from the ignition lock.
X Open the boot.
X Take the two straps out of the vehicle tool
kit (Y page 207).
X Take the hex-socket wrench out of the
Owner's Manualw allet and keep it with
you. X
To open the cover on the left hand side
in the boot: turn rotary catch 0046anti-
clockwise and fold down cover 0047. X
Insert hex-socket wrench 008Ainto valve
screw 0088on the hydraulicp ump.
X Turn valve screw 0088on the hydraulicp ump
using hex-socket wrench 008Aone full turn
anti-clockwise. Example: left trim in the boot

On both sides of the boot, tear trim 0086
along the perforatio ninthe direction of the

0075 To lock
X Pull off the cover of the roof lock behind the
overhead control panel.
X Insert the hex-socket wrench into the roof
lock.
X Turn the hex-socket wrench clockwise 0074
as far as possible.
! Make sure the hex-socket wrench is
turned anti-clockwise as far as possible
during the following step. The soft top may
otherwise not be fully locked.
X Turn the hex-socket wrench anti-clockwise
as far as possible 0074.
The soft top is now pre-locked on the wind-
screen frame. X
Move material tensioning frame 0076to an
upright position.
! Make sure the soft-top compartment
cover does not collide with the material
tensioning frame during the following step. X
Lower soft-top compartment cover 0077. X
With your hand flat, press down the mate-
rial tensioning frame until it rests on soft-
top support 0078of the soft-top compart-
ment cover. G
Risk of injury
You could trap your hands.
Do not push the soft-top compartment cover
forwards in frontoft he soft-top support with
your hands.
X Press the soft top compartment cover with
your hand flat forwards/downwards on
both sides simultaneously until it engages
in the guide. Apply your hands to the points
indicated with arrows.
At the same time press the material ten-
sioning frame gently downwards with your
flat hand. 254

To lock
X Insert the hex-socket wrench into the roof
lock.
X Turn the hex-socket wrench anti-clockwise
0079 as far as possible.
X Have the soft-top mechanism repaired
immediately at aqualified specialist work-
shop, e.g. aMercedes-Benz Service
Centre.
i Press the soft-top compartment cover
again if the boot lid cannot be opened.
! Do not under any circumstances open the
boot lid with the emergenc ykey. You could
otherwise damage the boot lid and the soft-
top compartment cover. Boot
! The boot lid swings upwards when
opened. Therefore, make sure that there is
sufficient clearance above the boot lid.
If the boot can no longer be unlocked with the
key or KEYLESS GO*:
X Remove the emergenc ykey element from
the key (Y page 249). X
Insert the emergenc ykey element into the
boot lid lock as far as the stop.
X Turn the emergenc ykey element anti-
clockwise as far as it will go to position
004A and pull the boot lid handle.
The boot is unlocked.
X Turn the emergenc ykey element back and
remove it. Releasing the parking lock manually
(vehicles with automatic transmis-
sion*)
In the event of an electrical fault, it is possible
to release the selector lever lock manually to
move it out of position P,e.g. if you wish to
tow the vehicle away. X
Depress the parking brake firmly.
X Prise out selector lever gaiter 0046with aflat,
blunt object ,(e. g. ascrewdriver wrapped Locking/unlocking in an emergency

The bonnet is raised at the back by approx-
imately 50 mm when active bonnet

You can reset atriggere dbonnet yourself.
! Do not tr ytop ress down the raised bon-
net at the back .Otherwise, the bonnet
could be damaged.
You can continue drivin gwithatriggered
active bonnet and have it reset at aqualified
specialist workshop. If you pull the bonnet
release lever ,you must reset the bonnet
befor eyou continue driving. Resetting

Risk of accident
If you pull the bonnet release lever and then
neglect to reset the bonnet, it will not lock at
the front when closed. The bonnet can then
open when the vehicle is in motion and
obscure your field of vision .Ifyou pull the
bonnet release lever ,you must reset the bon-
net befor edrivin gon. G
Risk of injury
There is arisk of injury if the bonnet is open,
even if the engine is not running.
Som eengine component scan become very
hot.
To avoid the risk of burns, only touc hthose
component sdescribed in the Owner's Manual
and observe the relevant safet ynotes.
X Open the bonnet (Y page 180). Example: Coupé

Swin gthe bonnet up in centre 0086with both
hands ,until the covers of bot hbonnet
actuators 0047no longer move.
Significant resistance can be felt when the
covers are pressed back down.

Ohead
restraints
If th eNECK-PRO head restraint sare triggered
in an accident, you must reset th ehead
restraint sonthedriver' sand th efront-pa s-
senger's seats. Otherwise, th eadditional pro-
tection will no tbeavailable in th eevent of
another rear-end collision. You can recognise
when head restraint shave been triggered by
th ef acttha tthe yh ave moved forwards and
can no longer be adjusted.
Mercedes-Ben zrecommends that you have
NECK-PRO head restraint schecked at aquali-
fied specialist workshop, e.g. aMercedes-
Ben zServic eCentre, followin garear-end col-
lision. i
This work requires alot of strength. If you
have difficult yresettin gthe head
restraints, have this work carried out at a
qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Ben zServic eCentre. Example
:Coupé
X Tilt th etop of th ehead restraint cushion
forwards in th edirection of arrow 0046.
X Push th ehead restraint cushion down in
th ed irection of arrow 0047as far as it will go.
X Push th ehead restraint cushion firmly
backwards in th edirection of arrow 008Auntil
it engages.
X Repeat this procedure for th esecon dhead
restraint. Manually lowering th
ehead
restraints in th erear(Cabriolet)
If th ehead restraint sintherear compartment
are in th eupper position, th esoftt op cannot
be closed fully. If th ehead restraint electron-
ics are malfunctionin gand th eadjustment
procedure of th esoftt op is interrupted leav-
ing th esoftt op compartmen tcover open ,you
therefor ehave to lower th ehead restraint sin
th er ear compartmen tmanually. Cover 0047
can only be released when th esoftt op is in
