Yo u do this by limiting the speed between
160 km/h and 240 km/h in the multimedia sys-
te m (/ page 230).
Shortly before the set speed is reached, it
appears in the driver's displa y.When you con/rm
th e message, display messages no longer appear
until you switch o. theve hicle. The speed will
only be displ ayed again once theve hicle has been
re star ted or if the set speed is changed. The permanent limi
ter does not switch topassive
mode even during kickdown and the driven speed
re mains below the set speed.

it can automatically follow theve hicle in front
when driving o. again within 30 seconds. If a criti-
cal situation is de tected in the sur rounding area
when driving o.,such as a person in theve hicle
path, a visual and acoustic warning is given indi- cating
that the driver must now take cont rol of the
ve hicle. The vehicle is not accelerated any fu rther.

If a change in the speed limit of 20 km/h or more
is de tected and automatic adoption of speed lim-
its is activated, the new speed limit is automati-
cally adop ted as the stored speed (/ page 238). Driving and parking

The driven speed is adjusted when
theve hicle is
le ve l with the tra1c sign at the latest. In the case
of signs indicating entry into an urban area, the
speed is adap ted according tothe speed permit-
te d within the urban area. The speed limit display
in the driver's display is alw ays updated when the
ve hicle is le vel with the tra1c sign.
If yo u are driving on German mo torw ays and there
is no speed limit, the system uses the speed
stored for a str etch ofroad with no speed limit as
th e set speed. If you do not alter the stored speed
on a str etch ofroad with no speed limit, there c-
ommended speed of 130 km/h is adop ted.
If Ac tive Distance Assist DISTRONIC has been put
into passive mode bypressing the accelerator
pedal, only speed limits which are higher than the
set speed are adop ted.
The maximum permissible speed does not take
th ero ad condition and cur rent we ather and tra1c
conditions into account. Adjust your speed
accordingl y,when necessar y.

The system limits of Tra1c Sign Assist apply to
th e de tection of tra1c signs (/ page 251).
Speed limits below 20 km/h are not automatical ly
adop tedby the system as the stored speed. Tem-
porary speed restrictions (e .g.fo r a cer tain time
or due towe ather conditions) cann otbe proper ly
de tected bythe system. The maximum permissi-
ble speed applying toave hicle with a trailer is not
de tected bythe system.

When Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is acti va-
te d, theve hicle speed will be adap ted accordingly
to thero ute events ahead. Depending on the drive
prog ram selected, theve hicle neg otiates a route
ev ent ahead in an energy-saving, comfor table or
dynamic manner. When thero ute event has been
passed, theve hicle accelerates again tothe
stored speed. The set distance totheve hicle in
front, vehicles de tected ahead and speed restric-
tions ahead are take n into account.
Ro ute-based speed adap tation can be acti vated in
th e multimedia system (/ page 238).

Also, the speed is reduced if the turn signal indi-
cator is switched on and one of thefo llowing sit-
uations is de tected:
R Turning at junctions
R Driving on slowing-down lanes
R Driving on lanes adjacent toslowing-down
lanes
The driver is responsible forch oosing theright
speed and observing other road users. This
applies in particular tojunctions, roundabouts and
tra1c lights, as route-based speed adap tation
does not brake theve hicle toa standstill.
If a cor responding route event is de tected while
ro ute guidance is active, the /r stspeed adjust-
ment is car ried out automaticall y.Ifth e turn signal
indicator is switched on, the selected route is
con/ rmed and fur ther speed adjustment is activa-
te d.
Speed adap tation is cancelled in thefo llowing
cases:
R Ifth e turn signal indicator is switched o.

to the driver.
R Ifth e driver depresses the accelerator or
brake pedal during the process.

Ro ute-based speed adap tation does not take right
of wa yre gulations into account. The driver is
re sponsible for complying with road tra1c regula-
tions and driving at a suitable speed.
In di1cult conditions, the speed selection made
by the system may not alw ays be suitable. This
applies tothefo llowing situations, fore xamp le:
R unclear roads
R Road nar rowing
R varying maximum permissible speeds in indi-
vidual lanes, fore xamp le attoll stations
R wetro ad sur faces, snow or ice
R if transport equipment, fore xamp le a trailer or
