Securing the child restraint system
Adjusting the seat correctly
When installing a child restraint system on the les
or right rear seat, always observe the following:
Make sure that the child\bs feet do not touch the front seat. If necessary, move the front seat slightly forwards.
If the head restraint of the child restraint system
cannot be fully extended when it is installed in the
vehicle, this will result in restrictions on the maxi- mum size setting for certain child restraint sys-
tems. Observe the child restraint system manu-facturer\bs installation instructions.
\bContact with the roof when the head restraintis fully extended and locked in place will not
result in any restrictions on use.
® When installing an ISOFIX child restraint
system, also observe the following:
When using a rearward-facing child restraint
system on a rear seat: adjust the front seat so
that it does not touch the child restraint sys-
tem. When using a forward-facing child restraint system with integrated child seat belt: adjust
the head restraint of the respective seat so
that it does not push the child restraint system
forwards. If necessary, the respective head
restraint can be removed. In addition, the
backrest of the child restraint system must lie as Oat as possible against the backrest of the
vehicle seat. Aser the child restraint system
has been removed, replace the vehicle head
restraint immediately and adjust correctly. The child restraint system must not be put
under strain between the roof and the seat cushion and/or be installed facing the wrong
direction. Where possible, adjust the seat cushion inclination accordingly.Adjust the vehicle head restraints so that thechild restraint system is not put under strain by the head restraint.
v When installing a belt-secured child
restraint system, also observe the following:
When using a rearward-facing child restraint
system on a rear seat: adjust the front seat sothat it does not touch the child restraint sys-
tem.Vehicles with premium rear seat: for rearward-
facing child restraint systems, move the rear seat backrest as upright as possible( page 114).Also secure Top Tether if available
( page 73)When using a forward-facing child restraint
system with integrated child seat belt: adjust
the head restraint of the respective seat so
that it does not push the child restraint system
forwards. If necessary, the respective head
restraint can be removed. In addition, the
backrest of the child restraint system must lie as Oat as possible against the backrest of the
vehicle seat. Aser the child restraint system
has been removed, replace the vehicle head
restraint immediately and adjust correctly. The backrest of the forward-facing child restraint system must, as far as possible, be
resting on the seat backrest of the rear seat. The child restraint system must not be put

cushion and/or be installed facing the wrongdirection. Where possible, adjust the seat cushion inclination accordingly.Adjust the vehicle head restraints so that thechild restraint system is not put under strain by the head restraint.Make sure that the child\bs feet do not touchthe front seat. If necessary, move the front seat slightly forwards.
v Depending on the vehicle equipment,
always observe the following when installing a
belt-secured child restraint system on the front passenger seat:
Observe the notes on rearward-facing andforward-facing child restraint systems on the front passenger seat ( page 66).When using a forward-facing child restraint
system integrated child seat belt: remove the
head restraint from the respective seat, if pos-

removed, immediately replace the head restraint and adjust correctly. The backrest of the forward-facing childrestraint system must, as far as possible, be
resting on the seat backrest of the front passenger seat. The child restraint system must not be put
under strain between the roof and the seat cushion and/or be installed facing the wrong
direction.Adjust the vehicle head restraints so that the child restraint system is not put under strain by the head restraint.Never place objects (e.g. cushions) under or
behind the child restraint system.Set the front passenger seat as far back as possible and move the seat into the highest
possible position. Always make sure that the shoulder belt strap is correctly routed from
the seat belt outlet of the vehicle to the shoul- der belt guide on the child restraint system. The shoulder belt strap must be routed for-wards from the seat belt outlet and, where
possible, downwards to the child restraint sys-
tem.Fully retract the seat cushion length adjust- ment.Adjust the seat cushion inclination so that thefront edge of the seat cushion is in the highest
position and the rear edge of the seat cushion is in the lowest position.Set the seat backrest to the most verticalposition possible.

tional injury.
= Objects or loads in the trunk or cargo
compartment will not be restrained by the
seat backrest.Make sure that the rear bench seat, the rear seat and the seat backrest are engaged before every trip.If the rear seat backrest is not engaged and
locked in place, the red lock veriNcation indicator
will be visible.&WARNING Risk of injury or death if the
permissible gross mass of the child and
