If the keyless operation key isnot operating properly
Insert the keyless operation key into the key
slot. Starting the engine and changing the op- eration mode should now be possible.
Remove the keyless operation key from the
key slot after starting the engine or changing the operation mode.
NOTEz Do not insert into the key slot anything other
than the keyless operation key. This could
cause damage or a malfunction.
z Remove the object or additional key from
the the keyless operation key before insert-ing the key into the key slot. The vehicle
may not be able to receive the registered ID
code from the registered key. Therefore, the engine may not start and the operation mode
may not change.
z The keyless operation key is fixed, if the key
is inserted in the key slot as illustrated.
When pulling out the key, pull out in the state.Keyless operation key remind-
er*
If the operation mode is in OFF and the driv- er’s door is opened with the keyless operation key in the key slot, the outer buzzer sounds
for approximately 3 seconds, and the inner buzzer sounds for approximately 1 minute,
and the warning display appears for approxi- mately 1 minute to remind you to remove the
key.
Diesel particulate filter
(DPF)
The diesel particulate filter (DPF) is a device
that captures most of the particulate matter
(PM) in the exhaust emissions of the dieselengine. The DPF automatically burns away
trapped PM during vehicle operation. Under certain driving conditions, however, the DPFis not able to burn away all of the trapped PM
and, as a result, an excessive amount of PM accumulates inside it.:ARN,NGz The DPF reaches very high temperatures.
Do not park your vehicle in areas where
combustible materials such as dry grass or leaves can come in contact with a hot
exhaust system since a fire could occur.CAUT,ONz Do not use any type of fuel or engine oil that
is not specified for your vehicle. Also, do not use any moisture-removing agent or oth-
er fuel additive. Such substances could have a detrimental effect on the DPF.
Refer to “Fuel selection” on page 2-02 and
“Engine oil” on page 10-05.

NOTEzTo minimize the likelihood of excessive ac-
cumulation of PM, try to avoid driving for long periods at low speeds and repeatedly
driving short distances, and try to keep high
engine speed driving as much as possible.
z The engine sounds slightly different from
usual while the DPF automatically burns
away trapped PM. The change in the engine
sound does not indicate a fault.

display
Warning lamp (mono-colour liquid crystal dis- play)Warning display (colour liquid crystal display)
The DPF warning lamp comes on or warning
display will appear in the event of an abnor- mality in the DPF system.
If the DPF warning indicator/
warning display appears dur- ing vehicle operation
Steady illumination of the DPF warning indi-
cator/warning display shows that the DPF has
not been able to burn away all of the trapped PM and that, as a result, an excessive amount
of PM has accumulated inside it. To enable the DPF to burn away the PM, try to drive thevehicle as follows:
z With the bar graph of engine coolant
temperature display stabilized in roughly
the middle of the scale, drive for approx- imately 20 minutes (4N15) or 30 mi-
nutes (4N14) at a speed of at least 40 km/h (25 mph).

If the DPF warning indicator/warning display subsequently stays on, contact your
MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service
Point.
CAUT,ONz You do not have to continuously drive exact-
ly as indicated above. Always strive to drive safely in accordance with road conditions. If the DPF warning lamp and
check engine warning lamp or the DPF warning display andcheck engine warning lamp il-luminate at the same time dur- ing vehicle operationWarning lampWarning display (colour liquid crystal display)
If an abnormal condition occurs in the DPF system, the DPF warning lamp and check en-gine warning lamp or the DPF warning dis-
play and check engine warning lamp illumi-
nate.
Have the system inspected by a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service
Point.

Urea SCR system warningWarning lampWarning display
If there is a malfunction in the system, awarning display will appear on the informa-
tion screen in the multi-information display according to the situation. At the same time,
the
warning lamp in the meter will flash.
If a warning display appears, have your vehi- cle inspected by a MITSUBISHI MOTORS
Authorized Service Point as soon as possible.
CAUT,ONz If the urea SCR system warning lamp comes
on and the warning display appears, the ve-
hicle can travel approximately 600 km
(400 miles) before the engine cannot be re- started after it is stopped.NOTEz If there is a malfunction in the system, the
check engine warning lamp may come on at
the same time.Turbocharger operation*CAUT,ONz Do not run the engine at high speeds (for ex-
ample, by revving it or by accelerating rap-
idly) immediately after starting it.
z Do not stop the engine immediately after
high-speed or uphill driving. First allow the
engine to idle to give the turbocharger a
chance to cool down.Turbocharger
The turbocharger increases engine power by
pushing large amounts of air into the engine’scylinders. The finned parts inside the turbo-
charger turn at extremely high speeds and are subjected to extremely high temperatures.
They are lubricated and cooled by engine oil.
If the engine oil is not replaced at the speci- fied intervals, the bearings may seize or emit
abnormal noise.

Auto Stop Go (AS G)system*
The Auto Stop & Go (AS&G) system auto- matically stops and restarts the engine with-
out operating the ignition switch or engineswitch when the vehicle is stopped, such as at
a traffic light or in a traffic jam, to reduce ex- haust gases, increase fuel efficiency.CAUT,ONz If the vehicle will be stopped for a long time
or if you will leave the vehicle unattended,
stop the engine.NOTEz The accumulated time the engine has been
stopped by the AS&G system is displayed in
the multi information display. Refer to “Au-
to Stop & Go monitor” on page 6-29.
z If the AS&G system does not operate or it
operates less frequently, the battery capacity
may have decreased. Have your vehicle in- spected by a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Au-
thorized Service Point.Automatically stopping the en-
gine
The AS&G system is automatically activated when the ignition switch is turned to the
“ON” position or the operation mode is put in
ON.
You can deactivate the system by pressing the “AS&G OFF” switch.
Refer to “To deactivate” on page 6-28.
When the AS&G system will operate, the
indicator display will turn on to inform
the driver.

NOTE

NOTEzThe vehicles with
A/T have the function of
preventing the unexpected start of the vehi-
cle due to creeping, etc., by temporarily maintain the braking force applied when the
engine restarts automatically.
This function is deactivated if the selector lever is set into “N” (Neutral) position.
While the function is activated, you might hear operation noise from under the vehicle
or feel a shock from the brake pedal.
This indicates that the system is operating normally. It does not indicate a malfunction.CAUT,ONz In the following cases, the engine will restart
automatically even if the engine was stopped
by the AS&G system. Pay attention, other- wise an unexpected accident might occur
when the engine restarts.

When the AS&G system is deactivated, the
indicator display will be turned on.
To reactivate the AS&G system, press the “AS&G OFF” switch; the
indicator dis-
play will turn off.

NOTEz This indicator display will also turn on for a
few seconds when the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operationmode put in ON.If the indication lamp
blinks while driving
If the indicator display blinks, the
AS&G system is malfunctioning and will not
operate.
We recommend you to consult a MITSUBISHI MOTORS Authorized Service
Point.
Manual transmission*
The shift pattern is shown on the gearshift lever knob. Press the clutch pedal all the waydown while shifting gears. To start off, press
the clutch pedal all the way down and shift into the 1st or “R” (Reverse) position, operat-
ing the gearshift lever slowly. Then gradually release the clutch pedal while depressing the accelerator pedal.
CAUT,ONz Do not put the gearshift lever into the re-
verse position while the vehicle is moving forward. Doing so could damage the trans-mission.
z Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal
while driving as this will cause premature clutch wear or damage.
z Do not coast in the “N” (Neutral) position.
z Do not use the gearshift lever as a hand rest,
because this can result in premature wear of
the transmission shift forks.
z Quick or slight clutch engagement made
while the engine is running at high speed
will cause damage to the clutch and trans-
mission because the traction force is very great.NOTEz During cold weather, shifting may be diffi-
cult until the transmission lubricant has
warmed up. This is normal and not harmful
to the transmission.
z If it is hard to shift into 1 st
, depress the
clutch pedal again; the shift will then be eas- ier to make.
z In case of hot weather condition or long time
cruising with high speed, a speed limitation function may work to restrict the oil temper-
ature rising of the manual transmission. Af-
ter the oil temperature drops to the appropri-
ate level, the speed limitation function is cancelled.

ommended.
Indication lampIndicator displayMoving the gearshift lever to
the “R” (Reverse) position
Depress and hold the gearshift lever to the
“R” (Reverse) position.
CAUT,ONz Do not depress the gearshift lever when
moving it to any position other than the “R”
(Reverse) position. If you always depress the gearshift lever when moving it, you could unintentionally move the gearshift lever tothe “R” (Reverse) position and cause an ac-
cident and/or a transmission fault.Possible driving speed

Avoid shifting down at high speed, as this
may cause excessive engine speed (the tach- ometer needle into the red zone) and damage
the engine.
