Normally, use the outside air position to keep the windshield and side windows clear and toquickly remove fog or frost from the wind- shield. To change the air selection, simply press the air selection switch. A sound will be made every time you push the switch. Outside air {Indicator light (A) OFF} Recirculated air {Indicator light (A) ON}
When the air conditioning turns on, the air selection is controlled automatically. When the air conditioning turns off, the airselection automatically goes back to the out- side air position. The air selection indicator light (A) shows theselected position.
NOTE
While the engine coolant temperature is low, the temperature of the air from the heater will be cool/cold until the engine warms up,even if you have selected warm air with the dial. For instructions on how to use the “MAX A/C” position (A), refer to “For quick cool- ing” on page 7-8.

Air selection switch
NOTE
When the air conditioning operates with the air selection switch (A) in the outside air position, the system automatically deter-mines whether to continue using outside air or to perform recirculation. If the outside temperature is high, the systemselects recirculation to achieve rapid cooling and causes the air selection indicator in the switch to illuminate. When the air condition-ing turns off or the blower speed selection dial is set to the “OFF” position, the air selection automatically goes back to the out-side position.

You can change the following functions tomatch your preference. Enable automatic air control: When the air conditioning operates, theair selection switch will be automatically controlled. Disable automatic air control: Even when the air conditioning operates, the air selection switch will not be auto- matically controlled. Changing the settings Press the air selection switch for about 10seconds or longer. When the setting has changed, the system will beep and the indicator light will flash.• When the setting has changed from enabled to disabled, the system will beep three times and theindicator will flash three times.

Push the switch, and the air conditioningcompressor will turn on. The air conditioning indicator light (A) will come on. A sound will be made every time you pushthe switch.
CAUTION Using recirculated air for a long time may cause the windows to fog up.NOTE
While the mode selection dial is set between “ ” and “ ” position, the air condition- ing compressor will run automatically. The outside air position will also be selected automatically. (In this case, the air condition-ing indicator will not change.) When the temperature control dial is set to the “MAX A/C” position, the air selection will be automatically set to the recirculation position. When the temperature control dial is in the “MAX A/C” position, if it is set to a positionother than “MAX A/C”, the setting for the air selection switch is selected as described below. The selection of recirculated air oroutside air depends on the setting before “MAX A/C” was used. • If automatic control was set: Automatic control is continued • If recirculated air was selected: Recirculated air is continued
• If outside air was selected:Outside air is continued
Personalizing the air selection (Changing the function setting)
NOTE
NOTE
The factory setting is “Enable automatic air control”. While the mode selection dial is set between “ ” and “ ” position, the air selection will automatically change to the outside airposition, even if the sy
stem is set to “Disable

Set the mode selection dial to the “ ” posi-tion and set the air sel
ection switch (A) to the
outside air position. Turn the temperature control dial clockwise or counterclockwise to the desired tempera-ture. Select the best speed to fit your needs.
CAUTION When using the air conditioning, the idling speed may slightly increase as the air condi-tioning compressor is switched on/off auto- matically. Especially for vehicles with a continuously variable transmission (CVT),while the vehicle is stationary, fully depress the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from creeping.
NOTE
If a problem is detect
ed in the air condition-
ing compressor, the air conditioning indica- tor light (A) blinks. Press the air conditioning switch once to turn it off, then once more to turn it back on. If the air condi-tioning indicator light (A) does not blink, there is no problem. If it does blink, have it checked at an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer or a repair facility of your choice. Sometimes, for example after using a high- pressure car wash, the condenser can get wet, and the air conditioning indicator light (A) blinks temporarily. Wait for a while, pressthe air conditioning switch once to turn the system off, then once more to turn it back on. Once the water evaporates, the blinking willstop.

Set the mode selection dial to one of the posi-tions shown in the illustration and set the air selection switch (A) to the outside air posi- tion. Warm air flows to the leg area and unheated or slightly warm air (depending upon the position of the temperat
ure control dial) flows
to the upper part of the passenger compart-ment.
Cooling
NOTE
If the outside air is dusty or contaminated in some way, push the air selection switch (A)to set it to the recirculation position. Let in some outside air from time to time for good ventilation.
To cool the leg areas, set the mode selection dial to the “ ” position.NOTE
When the temperature control dial is set to the “MAX A/C” position, the air condition-ing compressor will run automatically and the light will come on. The recirculation position will be selected automatically. Inthis case, you cannot turn the air condition- ing off or select th
e outside air position.
NOTE
When the temperature control dial is set to a position other than “MAX A/C”, the air selection will automatically change to out- side air. The air conditioning will revert to the previous condition in which the “MAXA/C” position was not selected.

Set the mode selection dial (between “ ” and “ ”) to remove frost or mist from the windshield and door window. Use this setting to keep the windshield and door windows clear of mist, and to keep the leg area heated (when driving in rain orsnow). 1. Set the mode selection dial to the “ ” position.
2. Select your desired blower speed by turn- ing the blower speed selection dial. 3. Select your desired temperature by turn- ing the temperature control dial.
For quick defrosting 1. Set the mode selection dial to the “ ” position. 2. Set your blower to the maximum speed. 3. Set the temperature to the highest posi-tion.

The air conditioning can only be used whilethe engine is running.
Defrosting or defogging (wind- shield, door windows)
CAUTION For safety, make sure you have a clear view through all the windows.
For ordinary defrosting
NOTE
While the mode selection dial is set between “ ” and “ ” position, the air condition- ing compressor will run automatically. The outside air position will also be automati- cally selected. (In this case, the air condition-ing indicator will not change.)
While the mode selection dial is set between “ ” and “ ” position, you cannot turn the air conditioning off or select the recircu- lation position. This prevents the windowsfrom fogging up. To defog quickly, direct
the air flow from the
side vents toward the door windows. When defrosting, do not set the temperature control dial near the “MAX A/C” cool posi- tion. This will blow cool air on the windowglass and fog it up.
