Release the lever and
lift the engine hood.
Support the engine hood with the hood prop.Insert the hood prop securely in the openingunder the hood marked with an arrow.
Unlatch the prop from the engine hood andput it back in its retainer.Slowly lower the engine hood about 8 inches(20 cm), then let it drop from its own weight.
NOTE
To prevent damage to the engine hood andwipers, make sure the
wipers are at resting
position when you open the engine hood.
CAUTIONAlways insert the support prop into the holespecially made for it. Propping the enginehood at any other place
could cause the prop
to slip out and lead
to an accident.
The hood prop can fall out if the hood islifted by a strong wind.
To close
CAUTIONBe careful not to trap your hands or fingerswhen closing the engine hood.
Make sure the engine hood is firmly closedbefore driving. If you drive without the engine hood com-pletely closed, it c
ould open up while driv-
ing.NOTE
If this does not clos
e the engine hood prop-
erly, drop it again from a slightly higherposition.Do not push down strongly on the enginehood. Depending on how strongly or whereyou push down, you could create a dent inthe vehicle body.If you drive with the e
ngine hood left open, a
warning display is displayed on the informa-tion screen in the multi-information display.CAUTION

It is normal for an engi
ne to use oil. You may
need to add oil between the recommended oilchange intervals. Befo
re starting the engine,
check the engine oil leve
l. Refill if necessary.
To check the oil level, remove the dipstick, wipe it off, and gently
reinsert it all the way.
Slowly pull the dipsti
ck straight out and
check the oil level by checking the upper sur-face of the dipstick. Th
e oil level must not go
above the line on the dipstick. If the level does not reach the line whichshows the minimum amo
unt of oil required,
remove the oil filler cap on the engine valvecover, and fill to within the “Good” range.

NOTE
If it is difficult to verify the oil level, wipeoff the dipstick and
reinsert it. Wait a
moment and then recheck the oil level bychecking the upper surfa
ce of the dipstick.
2.4 L models
CAUTIONOverfilling will cause
oil aeration and loss of
oil pressure, which coul
d damage the engine.
WA R N I N GUsed engine oil is po
isonous, and can dam-
age your skin. Prolonged and repeatedcontact may cause serious skin disorders, including dermatitis and cancer. Do not letused oil touch your sk
in and wash thor-
oughly after working with it.Keep used oil out of
the reach of children.
NOTE
Engine oil consumption
is greatly influenced
by payload, engine speed, etc.3.0 L models

The engine coolant rese
rve tank (A) lets you
quickly see when you need to add coolant. When the engine is cold, the level of the cool-ant in the reserve tank should be between theFULL and LOW marks. The radiator usuallystays full so there is no reason to remove theradiator cap (B) except when you check thecoolant freeze point or
replace the antifreeze
coolant.
Mitsubishi Motors Genui
ne Coolant provides
excellent protection against corrosion andrust formation on all metals, including alumi-num, and prevents clogs in some parts ofengine. If you need to add coolant often, or if thelevel in the reserve tank does not drop whenthe engine cools, the cooling system shouldbe pressure-tested for le
aks. Take your vehi-
cle to an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealeror a repair facility of
your choice for testing.

The radiator cap must be sealed tight to pre-vent losing coolant, which may result inengine damage. Only use a MitsubishiMotors Genuine Parts radiator cap, or anapproved equivalent.
Do not overfill the reserve tank.Your vehicle uses a
special radiator cap
that stays sealed and lets the coolant flowfrom the reserve tank back to the radiatorwhen the engine cools down. If you needto change the cap, use the exact samekind.Check the coolant freeze point in the radi-ator with the proper gauge, and only whenit is safe. If you add antifreeze, the con-tents of the reserve ta
nk must be protected
against freezing.Keep the front of the radiator and con-denser clean. If the engine coolan
t temperature does not
rise after the engine
is warmed-up, take
your vehicle to an au

The automatic transaxl
e should be maintained
and serviced by an authorized MitsubishiMotors dealer or a repair facility of yourchoice to obtain the
best performance and
longest life. It is impor
tant that the transaxle
fluid is kept at the correct level. The fluid level should be checked when thebar graph for the engine coolant temperaturedisplay on the multi-information displayshows the engine is warmed up and the fluidin the transaxle is heated to its normal work-ing temperature. Driving with the wrong fluidlevel will rapidly wear
out the transaxle and
destroy the fluid.1. With the brake pedal fully depressed andthe engine idling,
select each gear
momentarily, ending with the selectorlever in the “P” (PARK) position.
2. The fluid level should be at the HOTmark, but never above the HOT markwhen the engine is warmed up. Add ordrain fluid to get to the correct level.3. Make certain that the dipstick cap isinstalled properly to keep dirt and waterout of the transaxle.
Use only “Mitsubishi Motors Genuine ATF-J3” transaxle fluid to
ensure optimum trans-
axle performance.
Mitsubishi Motors Corp

ommend the addition of
any fluid additives to
the transaxle.

Check the fluid leve
l in the reservoir.
The fluid level must
be between the “MAX”
and “MIN” marks on the reservoir. The fluid level falls slightly with wear of thebrake pads, but this
does not indicate any
abnormality. If the fluid level falls sealed tight in a shortlength of time, it indi
cates leaks from the
brake system. If this occurs, have the vehicle checked by anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility
of your choice.
Use the recommended brake fluid conform-ing to DOT 3 or DOT
4. The reservoir cap
must be tightly sealed to keep dirt and waterout.

The condition of the batte
ry is very important
for quick starting and to keep the vehicle’selectrical system work
ing properly. Check the
battery regularly. If battery performance is suspect, have thebattery and charging
system tested by an
authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or arepair facility
of your choice.
The electrolyte level
must be between the
limits shown on the outside of the battery. Fillit with distilled water as needed. The inside ofthe battery is divided into several compart-ments. Take the cap off of each compartmentand fill to the mark.

Fluid type
WA R N I N GTake care in handling brake fluid as it isharmful to the eyes, may irritates yourskin and will damage
painted surfaces.
Wipe up spills immediately. If brake fluid gets on your hands or inyour eyes, flush immediately with cleanwater. Follow up with a doctor as neces-sary.CAUTIONDo not let any petrol
eum-based fluid touch,
mix with, or get into
the brake fluid. This
will damage the seals.Be careful when handli
ng brake fluid. It can
damage painted surfaces.Use only the listed brak
e fluid. Different
brands of brake fluid
have different addi-
tives, and these can cause a chemical reac-tion. Do not mix brands of brake fluid.Keep the reservoir ta
nk cap closed to keep
the brake fluid from evaporating.

NOTE
After replacing the battery, the electroniccontrol system data for the automatic trans-axle, etc., will be erased. As a result, shifting may be rough.Shifting will become
smoother after several
changes in speed.
