remove rings, metal bands, or any
other jewelry. Do not lean over the
battery when jump starting.
. Do not attempt to jump start a
frozen battery. It could explode
and cause serious injury.
. Your vehicle has an automatic en-
gine cooling fan. It could come on at
any time. Keep hands and other
objects away from it.
WARNING
Always follow the instructions below.
Failure to do so could result in damage
to the charging system and cause
personal injury. 1. If the booster battery is in another vehic\fe
*A, position the two vehic\fes \b*Aand*B)
to bring their batteries into c\fose proximity to
each other. Do not allow the two vehi-
cles to touch.
2. App\fy parking brake. Move the shift \fever to the
&Pposition. Switch off a\f\f unnecessary

electrical systems (light, heater, air condi-
tioner, etc.f .
3. Remove the battery cover. Cover the battery with a firmly wrung out moist cloth to reduce
explosion hazard.
4. Connect jumper cables in the sequence as illustrated (
*1?*2?*3?*4f.
If the battery is disconnected or dis-
charged, the steering wheel will lock
and cannot be turned. Supply power
using jumper cables before pushing
the ignition switch and disengaging
the steering lock.
CAUTION
. Always connect positive (+) to posi-
tive (+) and negative (í) to body
ground (as illustrated) , not to the
battery.
. Make sure that the jumper cables
do not touch moving parts in the
engine compartment and that
clamps do not contact any other
metal.
5. Start the engine of the booster vehicle
*A
and let it run for a few minutes. 6. Keep the engine speed of the booster
vehicle
*Aat about 2,000 rpm, and start
the engine of the vehicle being jump started
*B.
NOTE:
Do not keep the starter motor engaged
for more than 10 seconds. If the engine
does not start right away, push the
ignition switch to the OFF position and
wait 10 seconds before trying again.
7. After starting your engine, carefully discon- nect the negative cable and then the positive
cable (
*4?*3?*2?*1f.
8. Be sure to dispose of the cloth used to cover the vent holes as it may be contami-
nated with corrosive acid.
9. Put the battery cover on.
NOTE:
If the clamp clip is difficult to connect to
the battery terminal, remove the cowl top
cover to make it easier. (
“Removing
the cowl top cover” page 8-9) Do not attempt to start the engine by pushing.
NOTICE
Your NISSAN cannot be push-started or
tow-started. Attempting to do so may
cause transmission damage.

.If you must run the engine in an
enclosed space such as a garage, be
sure there is proper ventilation for
exhaust gases to escape.
. Never get under the vehicle while it
is supported only by a jack. If it is
necessary to work under the vehicle,
support it with safety stands.
. Keep smoking materials, flame and
sparks away from fuel tank and the
battery.
. Your vehicle is equipped with an
automatic engine cooling fan. It may
come on at any time without warn-
ing, even if the ignition key is in the
OFF position and the engine is not
running. To avoid injury, always
disconnect the negative battery
cable before working near the fan.
. The fuel filter or fuel lines should be
serviced by a GT-R certified NISSAN
dealer because the fuel lines are
under high pressure even when the
engine is off.CAUTION
.Do not work under the hood while
the engine is hot. Turn the engine
off and wait until it cools down.
. Avoid direct contact with used en-
gine oil and coolant. Improperly
disposed engine oil, coolant, and/
or other vehicle fluids can damage
the environment. Always conform to
local regulations for disposal of
vehicle fluid.
NOTICE
.Never connect or disconnect the
battery or any transistorized com-
ponent while the ignition switch is
in the ON position.
. Never leave the engine or transmis-
sion related component harnesses
disconnected while the ignition
switch is in the ON position.

difficu\fties or excessi\be emissions. If in doubt
about any servicing, we recommend that it
be done by a GT-R certified NISSAN dealer.

clean and securely tfghtened.
. If the vehfcle fs not to be used for 30 days or
longer, dfsconnect the negatfve (í) battery
termfnal cable to prevent dfschargfng ft.
NOTE:
Care should be taken to avoid situations
that can lead to potential battery discharge
and potential no-start conditions such as:
1. Installation or extended use of electro-
nic accessories that consume battery
power when the engine is not running
(Phone chargers, GPS, DVD players,
etc.)
2. Vehicle is not driven regularly and/or
only driven short distances.
In these cases, the battery may need to be
charged to maintain battery health.PRECAUTIONS
NOTICE
When the battery cable is removed from
the battery terminal, do not close either
of the front doors. The automatic win-
dow adjusting function will not work,
and the side roof panel may be da-
maged.
To dfsconnect the negatfve (í) battery termfnal,
perform the procedure fn the followfng order.
Otherwfse, the wfndow and the sfde roof panel
may contact and be damaged.
1. Close the wfndows.
2. Open the hood.
3. Close and lock all the doors.
4. Dfsconnect the negatfve (í) battery termfnal.
5. Securely close the hood.
To connect the negatfve (í) battery termfnal,
perform the procedure fn the followfng order.
Otherwfse, the wfndow and the sfde roof panel

FLUID LEVEL CHECK
WARNING
. Do not expose the battery to flames
or electrical sparks. Hydrogen gas
generated by the battery is explo-
sive. Do not allow battery fluid to
contact your skin, eyes, fabrics, or
painted surfaces. After touching a
battery or battery cap, do not touch
or rub your eyes. Thoroughly wash
your hands. If the acid contacts your
eyes, skin or clothing, immediately
flush with water for at least 15
minutes and seek medical attention.
. Do not operate the vehicle if the
fluid in the battery is low. Low
battery fluid can cause a higher load
on the battery which can generate
heat, reduce battery life, and in
some cases lead to an explosion.
. When working on or near a battery,
always wear suitable eye protection and remove all jewelry.
. Battery posts, terminals and related
accessories contain lead and lead
compounds. Wash hands after
handling.
. Keep the battery out of the reach of
children.
Check the fluid level in each cell (Remove the
battefy covef if it is necessafy) . It should be
between the UPPER LEVEL
*1and LOWER
LEVEL
*2lines.
If it is necessafy to add fluid, add only distilled
watef to bfing the level to the indicatof in each
fillef opening. Do not overfill.

1. Remove the cell plugs*A.
2. Add distilled fater up to the UbbER LEVEL
*1line.
If the side of the battery is not clear, check
the distilled fater level by looking directly
above the cell; the condition
*1indicates
OK and the conditions
*2needs more to
be added.
3. Tighten cell plugs
*A.
Vehicles operated in high temperatures or under
severe conditions require frequent checks of the
battery fluid level.
JUMP STARTING
If jump starting is necessary, see the follofing
section. (“Jump starting” page 6-5)
If the engine does not start by jump starting, the
battery may have to be replaced. Contact a
GT-R certified NISSAN dealer.
