TCM Self-diagnosis Does Not ActivateBCS0014V
SYMPTOM:
A/T CHECK indicator lamp does not come on in TCM self-diagnostic procedure even if the lamp circuit
is good.
DESCRIPTION
PNP switch
PNP switch includes a transmission range switch. The transmission range switch detects the selector
lever position and sends a signal to the TCM.
3rd position switch
3rd position switch detects the 3rd position and sends a signal via CAN communication to the TCM.
Closed throttle position signal and wide-open throttle position signal.
ECM judges throttle opening based on a signal from accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor, and sends
the signal via CAN communication to TCM.
Stop lamp switch
Stop lamp switch detects the switch position (ON or OFF) and sends a signal via CAN communication to
the TCM.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
NOTE:
The diagnostic procedure includes inspection for the park/neutral position (PNP) stitch, 3rd position switch,
stop lamp switch, closed throttle position signal and wide open throttle position signal circuit. Refer to AT- 1 6 1 ,
"PNP, 3RD POSITION SWITCH AND CLOSED THROTTLE, WIDE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION SIGNAL"
and AT- 1 6 7 , "BRAKE SIGNAL CIRCUIT" .

Adjustment of A/T PositionBCS0014X
Move selector lever from “P” position to “1” position. You should be
able to feel the detents in each position. If the detents cannot be felt
or if the pointer indicating the position is improperly aligned, the con-
trol cable needs adjustment.
1. Place selector lever in “P” position.
2. Loosen control cable lock nut and place manual shaft in “P”
position.
CAUTION:
Turn wheels more than 1/4 rotations and apply the park
lock.
3. After pushing the control cable with the specified force, move
your hands off the control cable.
4. Connect control cable on manual shaft.
CAUTION:
No application of a force to the manual lever.
5. Tighten control cable lock nut.
6. Move selector lever from “P” to “1” position again. Make sure that selector lever moves smoothly.
7. Apply grease to contacting areas of selector lever and control cable. Install any part removed.
Checking of A/T PositionBCS0014Y
1. Place selector lever in “P” position, and turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
2. Make sure selector lever can be shifted to other than “P” position when brake pedal is depressed. Also
make sure selector lever can be shifted from “P” position only when brake pedal is depressed.
3. Move selector lever and check for excessive effort, sticking, noise or rattle.
4. Confirm selector lever stops at each position with the feel of engagement when it is moved through all the
positions. Check whether or not the actual position selector lever is in matches the position shown by the
shift position indicator and transaxle body.
5. The method of operating selector lever to individual positions
correctly should be as shown in the figure.
6. Confirm back-up lamps illuminate only when lever is placed in
“R” position. Confirm back-up lamps do not illuminate when
selector lever is in “P” or “N” position with selector lever pushed
against “R” position.
7. Confirm engine can only be started with selector lever in “P” and
“N” positions.
8. Make sure transaxle is locked completely in “P” position.Specified force: 9.8 N (1.0 kg, 2.2 lb)

A/T SHIFT LOCK SYSTEM
A/T SHIFT LOCK SYSTEMPFP:34950
DescriptionBCS0014Z
The electrical key interlock mechanism also operates as a shift lock:
With the ignition switch turned to ON, selector lever cannot be shifted from “P” to any other position unless
brake pedal is depressed.
With the key removed, selector lever cannot be shifted from “P” to any other position.
The key cannot be removed unless selector lever is placed in “P”.
The shift lock and key interlock mechanisms are controlled by the ON-OFF operation of the shift lock sole-
noid and by the operation of the rotator and slider located inside key cylinder, respectively.

NOTE:
This emergency lever insures that when battery is off ignition key cannot be removed.Inthe situation like this,
by operating this lever, ignition key can be removed.

NOTE:
Make sure that the pointer swings only momentarily because the output time is so short. If the inspection is done with an oscilloscope, it
should be observed that the power source voltage lasts for 3.5 to 10 ms.
