BCM (Body Control Module) controls parking, license plate and tail lamps operation.
IPDM E/R (Intelligent Power Distribution Module Engine Room) operates parking, license plate and tail
lamps according to CAN communication signals from BCM.
Unified meter and A/C amp. operates tail lamp indicator according to CAN communication signals from
BCM.
OUTLINE
Power is supplied at all times
to ignition relay (located in IPDM E/R), from battery direct,
through 15A fuse (No. 71, located in IPDM E/R)
to tail lamp relay (located in IPDM E/R) and
to CPU (central processing unit) in IPDM E/R,
through 15A fuse (No. 78, located in IPDM E/R)
to CPU in IPDM E/R,
through 50A fusible link (letter M, located in fuse and fusible link block)
to BCM terminal 55,
through 15A fuse [No. 17, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to BCM terminal 42 and
to combination meter terminal 7,
through 10A fuse [No.19, located in fuse block (J/B)]

With the ignition switch in the ON or START position, power is supplied
to ignition relay (located in IPDM E/R),
through 10A fuse [No. 1, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to BCM terminal 38,
through 10A fuse [No. 14, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to combination meter terminal 8,
through 10A fuse [No. 12, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to unified meter and A/C amp. terminal 22.
With the ignition switch in the ACC or ON position, power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 6, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to BCM terminal 11.
Ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 52
to combination meter terminals 10, 11 and 12, and
to unified meter and A/C amp. terminals 29 and 30
through grounds M71 and M72,
to IPDM E/R terminals 38 and 60
through grounds E1 and E31.
PARKING, LICENCE PLATE AND TAIL LAMPS OPERATION
When the lighting switch is in 1ST position, BCM detects the LIGHTING SWITCH 1ST POSITION (ON) by
BCM combination switch reading function. And then, BCM sends position light request signal (ON) through
CAN communication.
When receiving position light request signal (ON), IPDM E/R turns ON tail lamp relay in IPDM E/R. And then,
parking, license plate and tail lamps go ON. IPDM E/R supplies power
through IPDM E/R terminal 22
to front combination lamp RH and LH terminals 7
to license plate lamp RH and LH terminals 1 and
to rear combination lamp RH and LH terminals 3.
Ground is supplied at all times
to front combination lamp RH and LH terminals 4
through grounds E1 and E31,
to license plate lamp RH and LH terminals 2
through grounds B214 and B217,
to rear combination lamp RH and LH terminals 2
through grounds M71 and M72 (with rear view camera)
through grounds B16 and B17 (without rear view camera).
With power and ground supplied, the parking, license plate and tail lamps illuminate.
Unified meter and A/C amp. receives position light request signal (ON) through CAN communication, make tail
lamp indicator go ON in combination meter.
COMBINATION SWITCH READING FUNCTION
Refer to BCS-3, "COMBINATION SWITCH READING FUNCTION" .
EXTERIOR LAMP BATTERY SAVER CONTROL
When any of the 1ST/2ND position with exterior lamp ON, the ignition switch is turned to OFF. The driver's
door is opened to get out of the car and then closed, BCM turns OFF exterior lamp with door lock operation of
the remote keyless entry system or Intelligent Key system in order to prevent battery from running by forget-
ting about turning OFF the exterior lamp.
This setting can be changed by CONSULT-II. Refer to LT- 1 9 , "
WORK SUPPORT" .

CAUTION:
Check combination switch system terminal waveform under the loaded condition with lighting
switch, turn signal switch and wiper switch OFF not to be fluctuated by overloaded.
Turn wiper intermittent dial position to 4 except when checking waveform or voltage of wiper inter-
mittent dial position. Wiper intermittent dial position can be confirmed on CONSULT-II. Refer to LT-
184, "DATA MONITOR" .

1. Confirm the symptom or customer complaint.

4. Check symptom and repair or replace the cause of malfunction.
5. Do the parking, license and tail lamps operate normally? If YES, GO TO 6. If NO, GO TO 4.

Check for blown fuses and fusible link.

Parking, License Plate and Tail Lamps Do Not Go OFFBKS002FT
1. CHECK IPDM E/R FUNCTION
Make sure that lighting switch is OFF. And then check if ignition switch is ON or OFF when parking, license
plate, and tail lamps go OFF.
Check results
Lamps go OFF when ignition switch is ON>>Replace IPDM E/R. Refer to PG-28, "Removal and Installation
of IPDM E/R" .
Lamps go OFF when ignition switch is OFF>>GO TO 2.
Lamps do not go OFF when ignition switch is ON and OFF.>>GO TO 4.
2. CHECK BCM INPUT SIGNAL
1. Select “BCM” on CONSULT-II, and select “HEAD LAMP” on “SELECT TEST ITEM” screen.
2. Select “DATA MONITOR” on “SELECT DIAG MODE” screen.
Make sure that “IGN ON SW” turns ON-OFF according to igni-
tion switch operation.
OK or NG
OK >> Replace BCM, refer to BCS-16, "Removal and Installa-
tion of BCM" or IPDM E/R, refer to PG-28, "Removal
and Installation of IPDM E/R" .
NG >> GO TO 3.
3. CHECK BCM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect BCM connector.
3. Check voltage between BCM harness connector and ground.
OK or NG
OK >> Replace BCM. Refer to BCS-16, "Removal and Installation of BCM" .
NG >> Repair harness or connector.When ignition switch is in
the ON position: IGN ON SW ON
When ignition switch is in
the OFF or ACC position: IGN ON SW OFF

to ignition knob switch, key switch and key lock solenoid terminals 3 and 7,
through 15A fuse [No. 17, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to BCM terminal 42,
through 50A fusible link (letter M, located in fuse and fusible link block)
to BCM terminal 55.
With the ignition switch in the ON or START position, power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 1, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to BCM terminal 38.
Ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 52
through grounds M71 and M72.
SWITCH OPERATION
When the key switch and key lock solenoid (key switch) is ON (key is inserted), power is supplied (without
Intelligent Key system)
through the key switch and key lock solenoid terminal 4
to BCM terminal 37.
With power is supplied, BCM detects that the key is inserted.
When the ignition knob switch, key switch and key lock solenoid (key switch) is ON (key is inserted), power is
supplied (with Intelligent Key system)
through ignition knob switch, key switch and key lock solenoid terminal 8
to BCM terminal 37.
With power is supplied, BCM detects that the key is inserted.
When the ignition knob switch, key switch and key lock solenoid (ignition knob switch) is ON (ignition knob
switch is pushed), power is supplied (with Intelligent Key system)
through ignition knob switch key switch and key lock solenoid terminal 2
to Intelligent Key unit terminal 27.
With power is supplied, Intelligent Key unit detects that the ignition knob switch is pushed. Intelligent Key unit
sends ignition knob switch signal (ON) to BCM through CAN communication.
When the front door switch (driver side) is ON (door is opened), ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 62
through front door switch (driver side) terminal 2
through case ground of front door switch (driver side).
When the front door switch (passenger side) is ON (door is opened), ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 12
through front door switch (passenger side) terminal 2
through case ground of front door switch (passenger side).
When the rear door switch RH is ON (door is opened), ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 13
through rear door switch RH terminal 2
through case ground of rear door switch RH.
When the rear door RH is opened, ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 63

With ground is supplied, BCM detects that each door is opened.
When the front door lock assembly (driver side) (door unlock sensor) is ON (driver side door is unlocked),

through front door lock assembly (driver side) (door unlock sensor) terminal 4

through grounds M71 and M72.
With ground is supplied, BCM detects that the driver side door is unlocked.
When the front door lock assembly (driver side) (door unlock sensor) is OFF (door is locked), ground is not
supplied. And BCM detects that the driver side door is locked.
When the trunk lid lock assembly (trunk room lamp switch) is ON (trunk lid is opened), ground is supplied
to BCM terminal 57
through trunk lid lock assembly (trunk room lamp switch) terminal 3
through trunk lid lock assembly (trunk room lamp switch) terminal 1
through grounds B214 and B217.
With ground is supplied, BCM detects that the trunk lid is opened.
STEP LAMP OPERATION
When front door switch (driver side) or front door switch (passenger switch) is turned ON, front step lamp
(driver side) and front step lamp (passenger side) turns ON. Power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 21, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to front step lamp (driver side) terminal 1 and
to front step lamp (passenger side) terminal 1.
Ground is supplied
to front step lamp (driver side) terminal 2 and
to front step lamp (passenger side) terminal 2
through BCM terminal 47.
With power and ground supplied, front step lamp (driver side) and front step lamp (passenger side) illuminate.
And, front step lamp (driver side) and front step lamp (passenger side) turns OFF when front door switch
(driver side) and front door switch (passenger switch) are turned OFF.
TRUNK ROOM LAMP OPERATION
When trunk lid lock assembly (trunk room lamp switch) is turned ON (trunk lid is opened), trunk room lamp turn
ON. Power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 21, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to trunk room lamp terminal 1.
Ground is supplied
to trunk room lamp terminal 2
through BCM terminal 64.
With power and ground supplied, trunk room lamp illuminate.
And, trunk room lamp turns OFF when trunk lid lock assembly (trunk room lamp switch) is turned OFF.
INTERIOR ROOM LAMP TIMER OPERATION
The interior room lamp timer controls to turn ON/OFF of the map lamp, personal lamps and ignition keyhole
illumination when map lamp switch and personal lamp switch are in DOOR position.
BCM controls the interior room lamp timer according to the following signals.
Key switch signal
Door lock status signal (from front door lock assembly)
Front door switch (driver side) signal
Front door switch (passenger side) signal
Rear door switch RH signal
Rear door switch LH signal
Keyless lock/unlock signal (from remote keyless receiver)
Intelligent Key lock/unlock signal (from Intelligent Key unit through CAN communication)
And when those lamps are turned ON/OFF, the interior room lamp timer executes brightening/dimming control
for maximum 5 seconds. Brightening/dimming control time can be changed with CONSULT-II. Refer to LT- 2 3 3 ,
"WORK SUPPORT (INT LAMP)" .

INTERIOR ROOM LAMP
When the map lamp, personal lamp and ignition keyhole illumination are turned ON by the interior room lamp
timer, power is supplied
through 10A fuse [No. 21, located in fuse block (J/B)]
to map lamp terminal 3
to personal lamp RH and LH terminals 2, and
to ignition keyhole illumination terminal 1.
Ground is supplied
to map lamp terminal 2
to personal lamp RH and LH terminals 1, and
to ignition keyhole illumination terminal 2
through BCM terminal 48
With power and ground supplied, the map lamp, personal lamp and ignition keyhole illumination illuminate.
Timer Operation Condition
When BCM detects driver door is unlocked, the key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder (key switch
OFF), and ignition knob switch is OFF (with Intelligent Key system), it determines that conditions for inte-
rior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the room lamp ON for 30 seconds.
When BCM detects key is removed from ignition key cylinder (key switch OFF), it determines that condi-
tions for interior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the room lamp ON for 30 seconds.
When BCM detects driver door is closed, and the key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder (key switch
OFF), and ignition knob switch is OFF (with Intelligent Key system), it determines that conditions for inte-
rior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the room lamp ON for 30 seconds.
When ignition knob turns to OFF from ON, Intelligent Key unit sends ignition knob switch signal
(ON→OFF) through CAN communication. When BCM detect ignition knob switch is turned to OFF by igni-
tion knob switch signal (ON→OFF), and the key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder (key switch
OFF), it determines that conditions for interior room lamp timer operation are met, and turns the room
lamp ON for 30 seconds.
BCM does not activate the timer even a door other than the driver door is opened.

WORK SUPPORT (INT LAMP)" .
Conditions for Canceling Timer
Timer operation is cancelled in any of the following conditions.
Driver door is locked.
Driver door is opened.
Ignition key switch or ignition knob is ON.
INTERIOR ROOM LAMP BATTERY SAVER CONTROL
If the interior room lamp switch is in DOOR position and the lamps left illuminated due to incompletely closed
door, BCM turns OFF the room lamp and ignition keyhole illumination in 30 or 60 minutes to prevent run down
of the battery. (Timer setting can be changed by CONSULT-II. Refer to LT- 2 3 4 , "
WORK SUPPORT (BATTERY
SAVER)" .)
When the ignition key switch or ignition knob is turned from ON to OFF, the timer is activated.
When any of the following door switch signal condition is changed with the ignition key switch in OFF posi-
tion, the timer is activated when the change is occurred.
Door switch signals: front door switch (driver side and passenger side) signal, rear door switch (LH and RH)
signal, front door lock assembly signal, key switch signal, ignition knob switch signal, central door unlock
switch signal and remote control unlock signal.
